I'd be surprised if there weren't a number of teams sniffing around Hayes and hoping Gorton's price comes down. That's not really the sort of deal that gets done weeks ahead of the deadline. That's a deal that comes down to the wire with a call for best and final 15 minutes before the bell goes off.

I think if the Rangers make a deal ahead of the deadline it'll be a minor one.
If Gorton does this, I'd want to make sure he makes his other moves ahead of Feb 25. Get the other fluff out of the way, and focus the majority of your attention trying to get the best deal for Hayes.

I am curious if we see him trade for a player with some term, especially with next year's depth still looking lackluster.

On Monday, Panarin's agent Daniel Milstein put out a statement: "We have informed the team that we are willing to discuss Artemi's future after the season. Our priority now is to focus on the rest of the season, trying to win a Stanley Cup for the CBJ & their fans. No additional comments will be made."

He’ll be in a Rangers sweater next year.
Except for that rumor that he and Bobrovsky are interested in FLA

I would think this is def the case.

I’m sure he will wait out the suitors... and doubt he calls anyone... probably the opposite.

TO has started the real market moves now. I’d be shocked if Gorts is actively calling anyone.

That being said I could see a move or two soon, especially for Zucc because his prize deal in Hayes will be the focus for the last few days/hrs

Would anyone be cool with Hayes to BOS for Studnika, JKF, and a conditional 2nd that turns into a 1st if the Bruins make the ECF?
I would want the first guaranteed as there would be a conflict of interest between our Tampa second and Boston's second as its highly likely they meet in the second round. Also, I'd like to somehow get Slepets from them, I like what I saw at the world Juniors
Edit: not Slepets, I meant Shen. Wrong Russian lol

Slepets is draft eligible thus year. Had a great WJC. Just a machine on the PK to boot.

I hope so. I could see him going back to Chicago though.

I get the strategy but I’m worried that given the relatively small number of teams that I see as being big time buyers, some of them may fill their needs elsewhere.

Its tough to figure how teams will respond. But the Maple-leafs made a big move to shore up a weakness . Using a first has to be considered paying up ,a phrase we use at the auction to buy cars. East is a beast Tampa,Pitts,Bruins,Caps all could come be in conference finals. Then the pretenders Habs,Isles and CBJ. Bruins and Pitts could pay up on a unsigned Hayes. The west is interesting and wide open. Vegas has a gambling GM(which is only appropriate) 1st 2nd and 3rd for Tartar. Preds always make a move but never seem to overpay. Canes,Sabres,Stars should have some assurance that Hayes will resign before they pay up. Interesting indeed and nerve racking with potential injury possibilities.
