Brooks loves Kevin Hayes for some reason. The Rangers need to trade Hayes off in the next 4 weeks and move on.

Dallas? Canes? Who? With today's standings and playoff ambitions who would you guys think are the top 3 suitors?

My fantasy land scenario

Kreider Zibs Chytil
Kravstov Hayes Kakko
Names Howden MZA
Vesey Strome Fast
Andersson

Skjei Karlsson
Staal ADA
Hajek Pionk/UFA
Lindgren

flame away

Both Hayes and Zucc will be traded, and neither will be back. Karlsson isn't signing here as a UFA, both because I don't believe we'll offer him a contract and because even if we did, why the hell would he sign up to play for a rebuilding team?

Even if that lineup did somehow come to fruition, it's still not good enough to win anything.

Tough to say, but I personally think it'd be wise for Gorton to attempt to jump the market. Its possible quite a few better players than Hayes might become available over the next few weeks.

We have 3 defensemen currently on the roster who also can't play defense
Oh yeah who are they?

Skjei? Yeah he is light years better than Gilmour and I have been on his back since game 1.

McQuaid? Stanley Cup winner at the NHL level McQuaid? Who has a net front presence, plays a physical game and serves a purpose here. Team has been much better when he is in the lineup.

Shattenkirk? Established NHL defenseman who’s defense was never nearly as bad as Gilmour’s is at his age and who’s offense outweighed any defensive mistakes.

Smith? Also a guy who at one point proved he could play defense in the NHL. Now a veteran who rotates in and out of the lineup, mostly out, but is physical, big, and had at least some defensive attributes even if it isnt many at this point.

Claesson, veteran 6/7 defenseman.

Pionk is better and he is also one who I have been on as needing to improve. But at least you see some potential to work on his game and be a 5/6 in this league.

ADA is certainly better. His defense isnt perfect but he does a lot offensively. He isnt just a skater out there. He makes things happen. And if you really think his defensive zone work is bad then you werent paying attention to Gilmour last season.

Lindgren, light years better defensively. Light years. That is how bad Gilmour was last season.

Say No to Gilmour. Worst defenseman at actually playing any lick of defense in the past 25 years i have watched hockey. The worst.

Hayes absolutely has to be traded by the deadline.

Zucc too. With Zucc the minute there is a reasonable deal on the table JG needs to take it.

McQuaid needs to net a 3rd rounder. I think a team in contention will come along and want his veteran presence. SC on is resume.

Nams can stay or go. Would not be upset if they decided to hang onto him.

Meh, he’s quiet down since Hedman got back from that injury. Stralman has been struggling though a lot this season, and Girardi, well, is Girardi.

I'm always hesitant to compare Tampa numbers to a lot of other teams anyway.

As we've seen over the more recent years, a 70 point pace in the right situation in Tampa can be equal to half that elsewhere.

Zucc gets a 'maintance' day.... after that much time off?

Kreider - Zibs - Howden
Vesey - Hayes - Names
Chytil - Strome - Fast
McLeod - Nieves - Buch

Staal - ADA
Skjei - McQuaid
Smith Shattenkirk

those lines look rough
Groin injuries can be wierd and come back to couse discomfort pretty easily especially for a pro athlete.

Wouldn't surprise me if Howden is the next guy to sit in Quinn's "play better" jail..

Howden shouldn't sit. He should play in the AHL.

We're talking about a player who, over the last 30 games (300+ mins), has the 3rd lowest shot rate in the league, 15th lowest point rate, 7th worst CF60, worst CA60, thurs worst CF%, 20th worst GF60, 11th worst GA60, 2nd worst GF%. You could honestly make the argument he's been the worst regular forward in the league in this timeframe. He's not ready and I don't understand why he has held a spot and got so much ice time for so long. He should play big minutes in a more offensive role against lesser competition.

I am not really sure why he wasn't there a while ago. It's not like he already has an extensive history of playing there with great production. He's played 5 AHL games in his career and that was two years ago.

Oh without a doubt! unless you are stuck there on a 4th line with a center you have no chemistry with and who cannot make a play to save his life and get the short end of the stick in ice time and opportunities. Then you can compare.

Gotta give minutes to Name,Buch, vesey, strome and of course zuke all are on trading block....Howden is a part of the future not a big deal that he is not playing.

It would be a good time to do it now too. Let him go down for a month. In a month's time, there will be lineup spots opening with trades.

He's only 20. There's nothing wrong with him having to go down to the AHL. He had nearly all his points before Thanksgiving. He's been struggling bad.

Right from the get go - what's wrong with Howden sitting out one game when you're a rookie (who's hit this proverbial rookie wall hard)? Did he already sit out a lot of games? I don't get this up in arms stance on every little thing.

P.S. Plus why does this even matter to you if you've already concluded that Howden's ceiling is 4C?

Howden jumped from playing in Canadian juniors straight to the NHL basically. He can be a 2/3c in this league. Needs more time

Yeah I don't doubt that at all, but he's not that now.

I think we're past the "let him play through it" part of the development curve. He's stuck. Maybe some time in the AHL will help him develop his game a bit.

I agree he needs to go to the AHL and get top line minutes. It sucks because I would want him getting 1C minutes but you have Lias needing those too.

You have Boo up. Hayes is back.

Dont know why Lindgren didnt get recalled. He should be playing over Smith/Claesson/Pionk. McQuaid needs to play to help clean up the front of the net and show some physical presence in the lineup.

Seems odd to sit him now, though. Howden should be plenty rested from the week long break.

Rangers also need to showcase tradeable assets. Like it or not, Howden hasn't been lighting up the score sheet. Need to get points to some players before the trade deadline to pad some stats going into negotiations/for scouts to see.

Also, him learning in the press box is not a bad thing.

Now is the perfect time. When late February comes, Hayes will be gone and who knows who else. They'll need him to fill the lineup. Now they can play Hayes/Mika/Boo/Names at C if they need while Howden plays in the AHL.
