Its too bad that Skjei isn't having the best statistical season, if there is interest Gorton should listen to offers from him around the league. I don't worry about his future -- but I can't imagine that we will have problems filling LD spots down the road. Hajak and K'Andree. LDs are available all over. European free agents, college free agents. Cheap UFAs like Claesson. Like it is now we don't have a single opening more or less at LD.

Skjei to Colorado for their 1st and Kaut. ;)

Skjei is easily replaced from within. However, ‘m not he gets you either of those assets in a 1-for-1 deal...especially not with Salic across the table.

One thing the Rangers have struggled with this year is faceoffs. They are 47.4% which is second worst in the league. This is part of the problem they have struggled defensively as they are starting in their own zone so often. It is also causing them difficulty on the PP since they often have to chase the puck before getting it in killing 20 seconds or so. It's no wonder the team is worse this year with that sort of number.

They should look to add some depth centers as parts of the trade for Zuccarello, Hayes or Namestnikov. I think based on what we've seen so far it's pretty safe to conclude that Howden has a 4C ceiling, Chytil is best on the wing, and Andersson is looking pretty suspect whether or not he will ever become an NHL player. That leaves Zibanejad X Y Howden in the future which is not a core you can win with. Buffalo really needs a 2C. What about trying to get Sobotka back as part of a deal for Hayes? He's got another year on his deal and is dominant in the circle. We've also heard talk about Zuccarello to Calgary. Would they give up Derek Ryan in a deal? He can chip in a bit of offense, has two more years on his deal, and is a real weapon who you can match up with someone like Bergeron or Crosby.

Howden is 20 and has 15 points in 47 GP, his rookie NHL season. What part of that says 4C ceiling to anyone?

What's the old high school stat class formula that tells you how likely a 47.5 guy is to win a draw (all else being equal) against a 52.5 guy, a 55 guy etc.? I just never feel like faceoff percentage matters outside of the tail ends - Hayes's rookie season, Patrice Bergeron. And hey, Bergeron lost to Zucc and it set up our goal last week. Even without Hayes we have a lot of centers, right?

I'd rather get a McLeod who can play a little, Zack Kassian would be fine if he's not a jerk behind the scenes

McDonagh’s having like the second best year of his career in Tampa right now

Meh, he’s quiet down since Hedman got back from that injury. Stralman has been struggling though a lot this season, and Girardi, well, is Girardi.

So many things wrong with this post lol
How does Howden have a 4C ceiling if he’s already better than a 4C?
“Andersson is looking pretty suspect whether or not he will ever become an NHL player”
17 points in 28 AHL games isn’t bad, and he already has a good all around game. Sure maybe he won’t be a stud but how does that scream not a future NHLer?
Also, why do we want Sobotka as a piece back for Hayes? I’ve seen Sabres fans claim he’s one of the worst players in the league

I smell a Lou move coming. Brooks wrote about him jumping the gun in a recent article, since he likes to get what he wants as soon as he sets a target.

My fantasy land scenario

Kreider Zibs Chytil
Kravstov Hayes Kakko
Names Howden MZA
Vesey Strome Fast
Andersson

Skjei Karlsson
Staal ADA
Hajek Pionk/UFA
Lindgren

flame away

Wasn't gonna touch it with a ten foot pole.

The Lias bust **** is just so ridiculous especially, he steps into the A and immediately puts up points with an absolute dog **** roster down there, I’ll just never get it. Always gotta wait for the kids to put it together to shut up the cavemen, it’s common ‘round here.

Ok, that’s it. Not touching any more.

How can Keller be an elite player if he's not even the first result in a Google search for Clayton Ke?

Early Apirl Fool’s joke?

Guy shouldnt sniff the NHL. He. Cant. Play. Defense.

Blazing speed. Wonderful. Sucks at everything else.

He was awful again for Hartford the either night. ECHL defense from him
We have 3 defensemen currently on the roster who also can't play defense

@SA16 does it again.

At least its consistent, everyone is thrashed in it. If that was made like trashing 4 of 5 kids and then the 5th is hailed as the second coming it would have gotten me going.

It really makes very little sense differing between a 2nd line and a 3rd line when we evaluate what potential a kid has. Like they are more or less used to the same extent. I wouldn't say that Howden doesn't have 2nd line potential but does have 3rd line potential. But I have a hard time seeing a team contending with Howden as its second best center if you get what I mean.

I do however think that Howden could play higher up in the lineup -- at wing. I actually think that role is the one he has the most potential for. Sort of as a mix of a Kreider and Pouliot. A little more free role without the puck and less responsiblity with the puck.

I liked what I saw from Lias the last time he was up. He did get involved a lot more and did better things with the puck. In short, he is heading in the right direction. That is all that matters. He is great in certain areas, just must get involved more. I wouldn't cap his potential yet, lets see where he is at in 2-3 years first.
