Or you can pay 6.5 for the next two years.

I don't think it matters financially or play wise.

If we can get an asset for him I think we do it. Don't care about our cap right now, don't care about our play right now.

Care about building for the future and that is ALL

I would think one more year, as he would certainly be traceable at the 2020 deadline. At that point there is only one season left on the contract. He played better last game. I don't think he's done. If he trends in the right direction like Zucc did they can deal from a better position.

The replacement are already here or in the system. Seems like he's a good locker room guy. Wait it out.

More on Shatty...

If the club moves Hayes and Zucc there's a lot of cap. They can resign the RFA's and have bank left to land Panarin. Panarin is a terrific boost to the Rangers offense. If, and granted there a few if's here but if Panarin comes here it's likely Shatty's numbers will increase as well. Both players would be First line PP. Better numbers always helps on value.

Someone else also mentioned it could be Shatty that others clubs are looking at. (Colorado)

I could see that. Could also see another not so friendly contract coming back

If the return for Kreider was Kaut and the Avs 1st (15-20 pick) I would throw my remote though the TV.

Kaut is a good prospect, and has been successful at the international level, and has also been OK at the AHL level. He is still very much a maybe. Maybe he will translate into an NHL player. But for Kaut he has to crack a top 6, and stay there. I don't see him as a player that can reinvent himself if he doesn't make it there. Like a Ryan Strome. Kreider I think is just too important to this team to move out for maybes. Interchange any of the best producing lines the Rangers have had over the past few seasons. There's one common denominator. #20

If Kreider to Coloroado is a thing I want the Ott 1st, And Makar.

way to set your hopes high, but that is a trade i dont think peter chiarelli would make...we can dream though

I dont think youd get both. Realistically it would be one of those 2 pieces and either the Avs #1 or Kaut with some sort of conditional pick as well.

Something like Kreider and McQuaid for Makar, Avs #1 and conditional 2020 #2 if the Avs make the cup finals either of the next 2 years.

Or

Sens #1, Kaut and that same conditional pick.

Liljegren is 19. 19!

He's got a year and a half in the AHL at an age most are still plying junior.

Sure I'm interested. What is the price? MZA?

I dont think they move him for a rental. I'd see him moved in a deal for a RHD that had some term left or for a player like Kreider.

unless the return is an unquestionable win for us (ie:makar, ott 1st, mcdavid [lol], or like something insane) theres 6 players in the system im just not trading no matter what:

1) Chytil - chytilmania is real. becoming more and more convinced kids going to be elite (whether its on LW or C)
2) Mika - exactly the type of experienced youth you need. legit #1C. trading him takes this from a 4-year process to a 10 year procees, completely unneccessary.
3) Kreider - elite net front presence and has really figured it out this season. sure its interesting to debate about what type of contract hes given next, but hes the unique force youre just not going to replace, and will really miss if we move him.
4) ADA - after this one im going to go run and hide because its going to cause WW3, but hes just too talented and playing to good to not think he hasnt finally gotten it.
5) K’Andre - blowing me away with his college play. could very well be a future 1st line defenseman. think miller-ADA, skjei-pionk (ugh not a fan but DQ is), lindgren/hajek-lundkvist (not counting any trades/free agent signings because im not a psychic)
6) Kravtsov - obviously

note: if we get a high pick this year, that player would likely be added to this list

Very much disagree with that.
so if youre colorado, youre going to trade what likely turns out to be a pick that yields a forward (hughes or kakko) far superior to kreider AND makar, whos going to be an elite defenseman in the league? thats larceny for the rangers even if kreider was locked down to a league minium salary over 8-years....thats a chiarelli-esque deal chiarelli lol

when youre trading a player as impactful and unique as kreider, that could be your starting ask so when you negotiate down to a more reasonable deal when coloardo lowballs you. youll still get a good deal out of that - if sakic doesnt laugh in gortons face and hang up instead

Do you really think that a year and change of Kreider is worth two top-four picks? That's a far better return than Karlsson, O'Reilly, and McDonagh+Miller got...

I look at the player for what he is now. We as Rangers fans watch him every other night. His lines consistently drove the play. His speed is game changing. His net front is as good as anyone in the league. Size, skill, compete, physicality. He's the full package. That why if he was to be moved, it's should be for a haul.

Two nights ago I believe Micheletti mentioned it, from the opposition standpoint. They know he's dangerous and contour their games around him. Sure the same can be said for Mika.

Karlsson IMO was a bad trade.
O'Reily is a heck of a player who is also a carreer loser. Has he ever played on a winning team?
To this day I still think the Gorton lost the McDonagh trade.

There is a solid chance Makar becomes a good nhl dman but let's not speak with such certainty that he'll become elite.

Also that pick right now doesn't have the best chance to get the #1 and is outside the top 3. They are also 2 pts away from being the 6th worst record.

I think the Rangers would ask for 1 of the 2 along with something else in a deal for Kreider.

Every prospect is considered a future elite player on here.

If you're an NHL GM and you make trades solely based on a player(s) for who they are now, you won't be an NHL GM for long so save your money.

There needs to be a balance. You need a pipeline of talent to keep competing long term but when you have a core of a elite players, you sometimes have to push a lot of your chips to the center of the table to have the best shot to win.

All those assets mean nothing if you dont have anything to show for it. That will get you fired as a GM as well.
