I’m starting to doubt Gauthier is around to start the season. He won’t be in a top 6 role and doesn’t appear to have the type of game that Drury seems to want in the bottom 6. I’m thinking he’s waiver fodder or gets moved for a mid to late round draft pick. Hunt/Reaves will most likely be the 12 and 13th forwards IMO.

Nielsen bought out in Detroit. They are almost rid of their poop...............when did the 2nd buyout period start?

We're all guilty of recency bias. With Kreider, somehow a lot of us forgot how he's capable of 'tilting the ice.' Even when Kreider wasn't producing, he was responsible for a lot of the success for his line. Whether it's the space created, forecheck/board play and/or a screen in front. He doesn't end up on the stat sheet but he played a major role in the teams success.

Also, some philosophy change came post covid IMO. The team was never the same.

Yeah thats good Kreider. He rarely did that last year and it was annoying as hell. He obviously was playing through something that hindered him (and eventually shut him down) but there was just a level of apprehension in his game that I haven't seen before.

I don't know if there was a philosophy change, because I never really saw a philosophy to begin with. This team looked like they were caught trying to do 8 different things at once and excelling at none of them except for the PP and great players doing the hockey. I will say that there was a palpable cloud that hung over this team that followed them into 2021 from the bubble. Why or how that got there (and stayed there) we may never know. I have some ideas, but I won't beat the dead Quinn horse here.

Gallant hockey really plays to Kreider's strengths though. As long as he isn't on cruise control after signing a fat contract, he'll be better next year.

I would tend to doubt that Kreider can score 40+ points if he's in a third line role.

Depends on the linemates and opportunities and how the coach uses them....can't remember if Gallant rolls his lines but if he at least rolls his top 9 and then Kreider gets PP time as well 40 points is feasible

Reactions: THE BIG WHISTLE
Owen Power going back to Michigan this season. Start the trade rumors! :sarcasm:

First #1 pick to go back since EJ in 2006.

He said he was going to do this before the draft didn't he?

I think its the best move for him. Go play big minutes and be the guy on a f***ing powerhouse, play in the WJC and stay away from the mess that Buffalo is right now. Things with the Sabres will (okay, may) be more stable a year from now and he'll be more physically mature and have all those extra reps under his belt.

Unless you're all world, the concept of playing D in this league at 18 has always been insane to me.

talent was not the issue. We have all the talent we need. Coaching and roster makeup were 2 of the biggest issues. Covid didn't help but all teams dealt with it to some extent

Here, here. I was the biggest proponent for the longest time of this idea that the Rangers could stack talent and simply overwhelm the opposition. Kakko, Chytil, and Krav on the 3rd line? HA! We'll skate circles around them. I remember when I was thrilled with Brandon Pirri on the 4th line in 2017 because I thought. again, we could just overwhelm teams in matchups. My 4th liner potted 20 goals! Unstoppable!

Then I saw last year. The Caps and Isles of the world clearly knew they'd have no problem bullying the Rangers into submission. Especially the Isles. No, you can't dress a goon who can barely skate in today's NHL but that doesn't mean a forward group of 12 fancy-pants figure skaters is going to lead to success.

I have to be honest if I was in his shoes and financially capable I would finish school and go the free agency route. College is much better than being stuck in Buffalo until you are a UFA and can sign somewhere else.

so lose three years of income? The new contract won't make up for the lost income. Might as well sign as many contracts as you can.

I think if this was his plan, he and his agent would discuss this with the Sabres and they would facilitate a trade. It would be best for him to not sit in college for 3 more seasons and it gets him to UFA faster
