Just something I’ve been thinking about. I don’t think we have an eye on a replacement for Strome atm. I personally think it would’ve been done by now if there was *but hey what do I know , nothing* So I’m perfectly fine going into the season as is and waiting till the tdl to trade him.

Stars are also beginning to align for Eichel to end up in Boston. Demanding a trade to Boston once his NMC kicks in
wouldn't be shocked either. I know Boston doesn't have any amazing young super cheap talents but maybe 2 first rounders, Lysell and one other young player gets it done? I mean eventually Buffalo will have to look at some divisional teams if Western conference teams like Anaheim or LA aren't gonna pony up top young players.

I know this is glossed over by many as a smaller concern/interest but I'm really intrigued to see what a 4th line of Hunt-Rooney-Reaves could do in terms of creating a specific identity. After having 4th lines (and often 3rd lines) where the roles were not defined or just the 'leftovers' for a couple of years I'm hoping those three guys can gel and help push the team in a direction to be harder to play against.
I don't see where Blais is in the Top 9

LW: Panarin Kreider Laf
C: Zib Strome Chytil
RW: Kakko Kravstov Goodrow

So, the 4th line should be even better

Rooney and Blais are locks there imo

Then: Hunt, Reaves, Gauthier (Barron, Richards as well)

If we recall to last time, Mika and his brother in law are fairly tough negotiators. It went down to the wire on the day of the arbitration hearing. I think they will adopt the same approach of going to the 11th hour. Mid September for an extension at the earliest. Eichel stays put, too injured, too risky. Drury needs Mika extended. They can't go with both 1C and 2C set to expire especially with no appetite for Strome long term. I think Drury and Gallant believes there are options for Cs from within.

What are we waiting for though? Eichel? I’d rather keep Zib for less. What other 1c is out there available to pay that $ to?

What if Zib has a really good season and his price goes up even more? Is it really worth the risk? We have a 1C right here already. Let’s just accept it’s going to hurt to pay him and do it.

Why do you think you are getting Mika for less? Why would he do that? He's going to have a great season and cost a fortune. Even if he signed now, he's the #1 center and Trouba gets $8 million. So he's going to want a fortune regardless.

Betting the Rangers wait and i would too.

that's a dangerous road

a dangerous road is signing for a fortune now, he gets hurt and then the Rangers discover the team could have traded for his replacement or found one in house.

Not panicking and i doubt the Rangers will

We have, potentially, the most talented roster.

If it goes how I envision it to go, we will be an overwhelming problem. Just need to solidify/stabilize the center position
Most talented? We have a ways to go to even compete for a playoff position this year. How have we really closed the gap on the teams that dominated us last season plus we also have to contend with Montreal, Tampa, Florida, Carolina and Toronto who we didn't even play last year and who all made the playoffs. I do agree with the solidify/stabilize center position which until that is done I do not believe this team will take the next step.

Why Rangers might be last place on earth Sabres want to trade Eichel - Sportsnet.ca

Beginning of the video. Asked about the Rangers, NHL insider Mike Futa (funny job + funny name) says "probably because that's where Eichel's made it quite clear he wants to be, that's the last place in the world that Buffalo wants to trade him"

Memories of Bobby Clarke and not wanting to trade Lindros to Toronto.

Has Eichel made it clear he wants NYR?

Strong disagree.

I think if this year had been a full 82 game season, NYR would have made the playoffs.

Shesty missed a lot of time, Trouba was out for a lot of time, Panarin and ZIbanejad had their own issues.

We've made the playoffs with much, much worse rosters than the one we have right now. It'll come down to Shesty staying healthy, as well as how long it takes Gallant's scheme to get off the ground.

I think even on the open market any team is going to be a little bit hesitant giving Zibanejad $10+ mill per year at age 29 or whatever he'll be

I think the league has a talent shortage right now, relative to the number of teams in the league, which is why you are seeing such silly contracts for high end players.

Hyman just got a 7 year megadeal as a 29 year old 2nd line winger.

It's a peculiar situation. The league seems to be turning more stratified with the high end players making bank and the role players increasingly getting paid pennies on the dollar.

Sounds good, punt this down the line a year and we'll get him for even cheaper when it's only us and boston he'll agree to waive his NTC for.

Possible but GMs also seem to be putting a huge premium on "grit and playoff style" and the flipside to that is they might look at Zibanejad and his injuries and view him as more flash in the pan rather than playoff tested warrior

Is there a competition on lengthy posts? Do they pay by the letter, the word or the line?

Scroll through many pages to read just a few decent posts per page with the rest cluttered mess of half thoughts.

Nah, we get a 25 cents a word. Not a bad side gig.

Anyway, some of us like going into detail. It takes like 1 minute anyway.

I think he’s getting less cuz I don’t think he will cost 10mill. That’s a big number and I just don’t see him asking that from the Rangers.

Yeah he may have a really damn good season so let’s lock him up now before he does. Of course he’s going to want a fortune and we have to respect and anticipate that. It will hurt towards the end but IMO it will be worth it.

most of us know this. We opt to keep repeating it for those who believe they need the 2022 lineup in place before 2021 begins.

Its not bad…. For right now. It’s also not exactly great. And because Zibanejad and Strome won’t be here in 5 years it desperately needs young top talent in the pipeline.
I opt to keep repeating for those who think 2021 is all that matters.

Is that the NHL having a talent shortage or the Oilers having a talent shortage?
