Speculation: Roster Building Thread - Part XXII

You know, remember that off season before we got Panarin and Trouba? The heavy insiders were talking at length about how Gorton wanted to do something big and that he was considering an offer sheet. Gorton by all accounts got his No 1 and 2 targets in Panarin and Trouba. But what if we wouldn’t? According to the the top insiders we would have considered an offer sheet.

I know that I laughed of those reports when they came, but afterwards I think they sound pretty legit.

I’m pretty sure someone reported recently that they were planning on offer sheeting Point, but he wanted to stay in Tampa

The major problem is trouba can’t be moved for 3 more seasons at least, maybe more. Next season and the following is where the true log jam is going to take place. That’s where there’s going to have to be questions answered of who moves in a trade or maybe switches to LD.
Schneider, Robertson, Jones aren’t going to marinate in Hartford for that long. And I’m sure there will be other defense drafted over that time period as well

Trouba can’t be traded without his consent. Doesn’t mean he won’t consent if he gets surpassed on the depth chart.

With a 10% cap cushion until seasons starts, or is it camp, the Blues match easily and move Tarasenko with some retention.

Not really the target for an offersheet. That is, team or player

Not until 2024. Starting in 2024, his NTC is only 12 teams.

Nils is an all around better prospect than Schneider though. Nils is an excellent defender.

Both have played on the PK, so they are both potentially good fits there. Lundkvist has played 3+ years of pro hockey, including men's national team games in a significant role. Schneider, while with the men's national team at the Worlds, didn't really play more than 1-2 minutes per game. That's not a knock on Schneider, but more a sign that Schneider isn't there yet.

That doesn't mean he can't get there, but in 2021, I would be shocked if a 19-year old Schneider is NHL ready and beats out 21-year old Lundkvist for that 3rd pair spot on the right side.

August 18th I said it at the beginning of last week felt like a make or break Monday for Jack Eichel.

I did not nor do I still believe it is a good idea trading for him but I am amazed that it feels at this point we are going to go into the season without a mika extension and with Ryan Strome still our 2C. The Danault whiff looms large as far as I’m concerned.

@BBKers - A few weeks ago, you mentioned that you had heard some things that lead you to believe that Drury was working on a move that you really, really liked.

Without asking for details, have you heard anything new on that topic? Less/more likely? Thanks again.
