What to do with Kreider?

No chance. Necas has been better than his numbers show. I think he’s a top line/point per game player by next year. He’s also at 863k through 22-23. You don’t trade a player like that. He’s as good as Kreider now.
Agreed, Necas is another potential difference maker that this franchise passed on. The Canes aren't trading him.

Retiring with $4.2m on the table would be a pretty noble act on Staal's part. I think he'll make the Rangers buy him out. It's a pretty significant difference for Staal to retire than say Lundqvist. Hank's career earnings, purely from a salary perspective, are double that of Staal's. There's also nothing to say that Staal would want a post-playing career in hockey.

Anyone think the Rangers are readying to drop the bomb in the off-season that Staal is retiring with all of these injuries?
We can only hope

I think he could get another job in the league though. I'm sure some team would be willing to give him a bottom pairing role for leadership

Strome has no control over his lineup placement for Colorado’s 2020 cup run.
I agree with that.
What I am concerned about is if Colorado’s front office is worried about Strome’s attitude if he goes back to playing 3C after successfully playing as a 1C.

Sorry, by retire, I meant due to injuries which would mean he'd get his money but it wouldn't count on the cap

Ah, gotcha. Perhaps, but I guess it comes down to whether or not Staal thinks he can still play or not. I also doubt they'd want him taking the whole summer to see how he feels and then deciding he wants to stick around. So the buyout might work better for all parties in that regard.

He wouldn't retire, he would go LRTIR.

God knows he has earned that much.

Do people believe that ADA will lose value if the Rangers re-sign him to a long-term deal? That's the part that confuses me. It's not like he has a ton of value this year and then, when he hopefully re-signs long-term this off-season, his value drops. If anything, his value may increase to more than a handful of teams who he probably wouldn't have given such term to. And this is a backup plan anyways in my mind as he shouldn't be traded but there is practically no reason to trade him this season.
In HF world? Absolutely.

There are three categories that 95% of players fall into and they are as follows:
1. Pending UFA/RFA therefore will command huge contract and perceived value is lower
2. Recently signed RFA/UFA therefore has too much term left on the deal and perceived value is lower
3. UFA/RFA with moderate term left on the deal, not enough term to trade assets of value therefore perceived value is lower

A guy with 4 years left has too much term but a guy with 2-3 years left isn't worth giving up assets as it is not enough term. It is a no win situation on these boards.

Around the league, I don't think his value drastically increases/decreases unless Gorton either signs him to a steal or drastically overpays.

I hope he's not going to be the 'Tarasenko' to Lias' 'Dylan' .. The only kid that burns me really that we passed on.

It's so hard to gauge f'n Carolina tho. Feel like they're becoming the new Tampa/Chi (dynasty Chi)/Pit where players go there and have this magical production that doesn't necessarily always translate elsewhere because of the lack of elite scoring around them once they move on.

Carolina only has one or two elite scorers. I would put Aho and Svech in that category. Teuvo is having a great year also.
Marty Necas is the real deal. Incredible speed and a very deft touch. Sometimes his feet move too fast for his brain, but that should work itself out with some more experience. That kid will move up to the top 6 soon enough. Looks like a potential 30G -70point player.
What Carolina really needs is a goalie who can win them some games when they aren't at their best. Not sure if Georgie is that guy, but imo, he is a better choice than Reimer. They are loaded with prospects and picks in this years draft.

Hopefully Lias is the last guy of marginal talent that we pick high. No more low upside guys in the first round.

Apples and oranges.

McIlrath was a fundamentally bad pick at 10. It was a huge reach and there was so much premier talent that was still on the board.

Lias was a reasonable pick at 7 and the Rangers 1st and 2nd options had just been taken. Whether you like the pick or not is a different story, but looking at pre-draft rankings it wasn't a total reach.

Yeah, still think we'll need a year or two to see how everything shakes out before any true final judgements can be made in this case.

The question really for both of them is how they want to go out. And how much is it worth to them? Would Henke be happy in a pure job share situation, even maybe somewhat less than 50/50? Would Staal be happy in such a position? Even finding himself scratched more often? Or do they want to finish out their contracts, get more counting stats and their pay? I have no answer. That is up to them. But one cannot hold it against them if they choose to play out their contracts and collect what is owed to them.

I think Geo for Gauthier (Car) straight up is as fair/good a deal as we'll get.

Carolina needs someone who can be a long term solution in net.

I love Gauthier size, but he hasn't really made the strides the organization had hoped for. I suppose if Carolina threw in a second (they have a couple), it would be a good deal all around.
The other issue with this is that, I believe they are planning on bringing Nedeljkovic up to the NHL next season.
I do think it would be a good deal for both clubs.

IF they believed in him, he would be getting games for them right now.

Gauthier is trending in the right direction. Hes going to be a middle six player but we need variety there.

With draft picks and prospects I think Carolina has an embarrassment of riches. They could stay the course but one would think they would try to better their team in the present.

LTIRetire, if that. And theyd still have to be under the ceiling on Opening Day with his hit if that happens.

It certainly would be nice if, for once, our organization was the one having a player miraculously go on LTIR when faced with a cap crunch.

Well Markus Naslund straight up retired for us and we were able to sign Drury and Gomez with that money IIRC.
