Is Bracco a good fit though ? Smallish C that can play so wing. He is a top AHL scorer though

May be off in my logic here, but if the best the Rangers can get for Georgiev is a fringe prospect (albeit who has pretty decent boom potential) and possibly a pick like a 2nd, I dont want to move him.

There is a risk that Shesh could bust still. I would really like to see that competition between Shesh and Georgiev.

I think that if that's the type of offer out there right now and around the draft, the Rangers front office should have a serious conversation with Lundqvist (this conversation should be happening now). See where his heads at. It might make sense to agree to buy him out so he gets most of his last years pay and then give him a role in the organization to make up the difference.

Lundqvist has done so much for this organization and he would be a good mentor for Shesh, but to trade away a player just so he can play out his last year, for not an optimal return doesn't make sense.

This would be an offseason move. Remember Georgiev is an RFA he will get between $2-3MM on a two year deal. Skjei ($5.25MM) Georgiev ($3MM) + Kravstov ($1MM) totals up to approx $9.25MM. Nylander ($7MM) + Kapanen ($3.2MM) totals to $10.2MM, or $1MM more when looking as t next years cap situation.

I'd like to see Kreider traded for a Kostin type player.

You save about $3.7MM with the buyouts of Staal and Smith. I've advocated to continue to try ADA and Fox on the left to fill the opening created by trading Skjei.

Strome resigned for 4 years sub $5MM. Even with ADAs season i dont see him getting more then $6.5MM. He'll probably want a 4 year deal and the Rangers 6, so they meet at 5 years. Lemieux wont get much of a raise then were he is now, likely $1.5MM.

After the buyouts and trades the Rangers would have $57.75 committed to the cap next season. Adding the new contracts for Strome/Lemieux/ADA/Nylander/Kapanen/Kostin/Keane brings us to $81MM with 3 roster spots left to fill (4th line and spare F and spare D).

Really comes down to what the cap looks like for next year. If it stays at $81.5 it's not doable. If it goes up to say $84MM it is. Buch could be an asset moved as well which would free some but not all of his $3.25MM depending on the replacements cost.

Kapanen - Zbad - Nylander
Panarin - Strome - Buch
Kostin - Chytil - Kakko
Lemieux - Howden - XXXX
XXXX

ADA - Trouba
Lindgren/Hajek - Fox
Hajek/Lindgren - Keane
XXXX

Shesh
Lundqvist

Thanks you - amazing post

not to derail any Nylander but is he worth the dollars? Is it his surrounding cast which makes his numbers better? That’s a very talented team and I wonder if he’s another Stepan netting 18-22 goals elsewhere on a good year.

Definitely a misperception. His underlying numbers have always been strong. He’s also really turning it on lately and it hasn’t been because of anyone else.

I still worry about the rumored handshake deal between the Sharks and Labanc. Kid is probably looking to get paid no matter where he ends up.

Edmonton doesn't seem like a mid-year target for Georgiev. They'd have to waive someone to fit him in. If there's a trade to be made there it's probably a hockey deal for a guy like Buchnevich or Skjei.

Ottawa has the roster flexibility, immediate need, and a decent pool of prospects they could surrender.

Toronto has been getting below-average goal-tending all season. They could certainly use him but Georgie has also been a bit inconsistent this year game-to-game. That being said, if you're asking for Labanc from San Jose then there's no reason to settle for Bracco as the foundation for a deal from Toronto.

I wonder if Georgiev's inconsistency would be diminished if he became a team's #1, and got the majority of the starts. It can be hard on anyone not playing regularly, but goalies in particular need to get in a good rhythm.

I would think so. It also depends on what kind of defense he ends up playing behind. Some of the really bad nights he's had have coincided with the team in front of him shitting the bed.

True. But maybe not in Strome’s mind anymore.
“How do you keep them down on the farm once they’ve seen Parie”
An old saying about the U.S. and Canadian soldiers who returned home from WWI.

Strome has no control over his lineup placement for Colorado’s 2020 cup run.

Brooks has insinuated in one of his recent articles that Kreider has all the Canadian teams on his NTC

Although at the deadline I'm sure anything is possible

I wouldn't be that surprised to see Kreider waive for a team like Toronto or Vancouver. A few months in a hot market and nice city before cashing in on July 1st isn't too bad. Far different than waiving for a place like Edmonton or Calgary.

Do people believe that ADA will lose value if the Rangers re-sign him to a long-term deal? That's the part that confuses me. It's not like he has a ton of value this year and then, when he hopefully re-signs long-term this off-season, his value drops. If anything, his value may increase to more than a handful of teams who he probably wouldn't have given such term to. And this is a backup plan anyways in my mind as he shouldn't be traded but there is practically no reason to trade him this season.

If' he's looking to truly cash in, the smart play would be to go Edmonton and play with McDavid or Draisatl. And it would be Edmonton in spring, not winter, so it wouldn't be AS BAD

Plus, no one is forcing the issue, at this point. Keane isn't ready, and probably needs another calendar year to be so. Lundkvist doesn't have an NHL frame yet, and is probably two years away.

Also, maybe the more we see of Fox, the more we might decide he's the one to move for a big return.

There's no downside to locking DeAngelo in, if the ask on his side is reasonable.

People keep saying that but "product of playing with McDavid" doesn't seem that great on a resume. Plus while Edmonton winters are terrible, Spring doesn't really start until May. But maybe it doesn't matter for a Boston kid for what would only be a couple months.
