I think Geo for Gauthier (Car) straight up is as fair/good a deal as we'll get.

Carolina needs someone who can be a long term solution in net.

I wouldn't usually care about where we trade someone, but I'd really like to avoid trading Geo to Carolina unless we are getting back so incredible return. Which Gauthier is not in my book.

Apples and oranges.

McIlrath was a fundamentally bad pick at 10. It was a huge reach and there was so much premier talent that was still on the board.

Lias was a reasonable pick at 7 and the Rangers 1st and 2nd options had just been taken. Whether you like the pick or not is a different story, but looking at pre-draft rankings it wasn't a total reach.

Very debatable...In all honesty, both were reaches. And reaches i mean both were drafted about 7-10 spots ahead of where they were predicted to go.

Retiring with $4.2m on the table would be a pretty noble act on Staal's part. I think he'll make the Rangers buy him out. It's a pretty significant difference for Staal to retire than say Lundqvist. Hank's career earnings, purely from a salary perspective, are double that of Staal's. There's also nothing to say that Staal would want a post-playing career in hockey.
Or he goes on LTIR with “lingering isssues”

I'm not saying whether or not it was the right choice, but looking at the list of players available after him, Lias was not as much of a reach as some thought....adding hindsight, he's actually done better than about 90% of the players drafted after him.

IF they believed in him, he would be getting games for them right now.

Gauthier is trending in the right direction. Hes going to be a middle six player but we need variety there.

I don't think they want to rush the kid. He has been really good in the AHL. Canes don't usually rush kids into the league before they are ready. Not all these kids are Svechnikov.

Georgie and Lias for Rees.

Man, Carolina is going to be a force for a looooong time. If only we could draft that good...

Agreed. Worth noting again that if ADA can make the switch to the left-side, that drastically changes the dynamic on this blue line going forward.

What do you mean by "changes the dynamic"?

While I myself mused on the potential ADA move to LD, I'm concerned no only about the noted difficulties of handling defensive responsibilities when playing on his off-side, but also how this move would impact DeAngelo's offensive game.

I wouldn't be that surprised to see Kreider waive for a team like Toronto or Vancouver. A few months in a hot market and nice city before cashing in on July 1st isn't too bad. Far different than waiving for a place like Edmonton or Calgary.
Calgary usually has an early Spring . If they were contending why would he refuse ? Chances like that don't come along very often to win a Cup....if he even cares about that and some games watching him one has to wonder if he really does .

I don't think it would hurt his offensive game at all. He's at his best when he's moving all around the offensive zone either way

For starters, it allows the team to skate Trouba, Fox, and ADA in the top-4 on a nightly basis. That's a pretty potent group. It also reduces the burden on some of the kids in the LHD group. You can rotate them in and out of the bottom pairing as needed instead of forcing one to skate next to Trouba or ADA.

Didn't even realize you were talking this season too. Who'd even be playing the vacated 2RD position? Rookies Fox and Lingren are not likely to be separated (or permanently promoted).

Just to make sure, I'm not challenging that it's a resolution move to potential / likely crowdedness issue at RW in near future and a lack of 1LW during that same timeframe.

From what I've noticed he really does not move all around. He goes up and down the right side of the ice a lot but not west. At least not how I'm remembering his game in my head.
