Moreover, the question isn't what Kreider will cost in $, we largely know that. The question is WHO Kreider will cost us down the line. Who won't we be able to re-sign? Who will we have to move to fit him. If he signs any deal longer than 4 years, almost our entire roster will be due a raise before then.

You are presuming that neither one of them wants to be a #1 goaltender and will happily settle for a work split?

They would both have some RFA years, so it would be more about the Rangers having more time to make sure one or the other is truly a starter before they ship the other off.

And the question about playing next year will be asked before they make any potential move. I do not envision a scenario where they make a move if Lundqvist is unsure, or leaning toward retirement.

Precisely. Feels like they’re setting him up for that conversation. His games are going to be fewer and farther between and when he does play he will struggle. Not going to be much fun.

Sure, but even that is more than likely a short term thing.

This is mildly interesting because I could see Lundqvist actually giving some consideration to a team like Colorado. Just like it worked out for Bourque, getting that Cup would be huge for him and with Landeskog as the captain, he may be able to convince Hank to waive. That’s captain Sweden. Also a guy like Foppa could probably get on the phone with Hank and tell him how great winning a Cup in Colorado feels. His old running mate Sakic could easily call in that favor.

Maybe we could sell them Hank and Kreider, both at 50% and get a pretty decent haul to set up our future.

Few thoughts on this.

1) There is no evidence so far that Hank would consider a trade. While it is entirely possible, Hanks words were painting a different story.
2) The callup for Igor was a head scratcher. The club didn't really address anything other then he deserved a chance to play at the NHL level. I've never seen it happen before with the NYR, or any club for that matter?
3) If he goes to Colorado ill be purchasing a Lundqvist Avs sweater for sure. Would look awesome, and id hang it next to my Deadmarsh sweater in me closet.

There is absolutely no guarantee that Chytil can do with Panarin what Strome is doing with Panarin.

Are there any guarantees in hockey? There’s no guarantee Strome replicates this next year. But look at what Jesper Fast is doing with Panarin. He’s going to have a career year. Look at what everyone thru his career does on his line. Look what he did for Dubois. He makes everyone around him better and Chytil is a stud. I have zero doubt he’ll produce in that spot what I do know for sure is along with that production he’ll be much tougher to play against and will actually play defense of which Strome does not.

I'd take the short term security if I were them.

I mean they could end up doing all this rebuilding, and if they make a mistake by keeping the wrong goalie, or if that goalie becomes irreparably injured soon after they make their choice... I'd go the safe route with the goalies.

Fast is doing the same exact thing he has done every year, he just has a few more counting stats. That is a produce of getting top line ice time instead of only 3rd or 4th line.

Strome started to produce last year, before Panarin was ever in the picture. He continued to produce this year, while NOT playing with Panarin. Since being placed on a line with Panarin, there has been a visible effect on his numbers. BUT, Panarin is on pace to olbiterate his personal records. Something that no teammate in Chicago or Detroit can have an effect on. Strome is top 5 in primary assists. Should he be penalized because Panarin is putting them in the net? Does he get no credit at all?

History has shown you that it is not as simple as "ANYONE can produce with such an elite player". Or that ANYONE can create chemistry with such an elite player. To simply marginalize Strome and persume that Chytil would do even better is disingenuous.

I do not disagree. But it is not a tenable thought unless Henke tells Gorton & JD that he is retiring.

Why is everyone so afraid of giving Kreider 7 years? If he breaks a down in 4 you buy him out that’s all. Everyone does it. Everyone has old guys on long term deals. We won’t be in buyout hell forever. If you absolutely need to buy a guy our to keep another guy you do it. Not the end of the world.

right now you have two superstar players. You have the highest scoring defense in the league. Your the highest scoring team in the league since November. the You better try and win with them within a 3 year window. Gutting the team now does nothing for you

I am not sure that other clubs have had such a goalie prospect who could also opt to escape and go back to Russia. Gorton and JD did not want that to even become a conversation. So they did the only thing they could. They called up the prospect was was proving that he was far too good for the AHL.

Deader RULES!!!

Are you seeing their production? It’s nowhere near anything that they’ve ever done. No one is saying Strome isn’t a good player. Again I have to repeat myself for some reason. But I think he’s internally replaceable without hurting this team where a Kreider is not.

I think with each passing day, the Rangers are considering re-signing Kreider. Not just because he is producing, but because of his impact on his teammates, the lockerroom, etc. He has the leadership skills. He is homegrown, knows this organization in and out. I think his abilities on and off the ice are really starting to pierce through. They may still trade him but i think it is 50/50 as opposed to maybe 65/35 trading him as it might have been 2 months ago.

I still don’t think i could take 7 years. Even 6 is tough term to swallow

I really would like to find a way to keep kreider but if you are going into a contract thinking you can just buy him out later than maybe you should rethink signing the deal in the first place...I know its an 'out' if things go bad but if you are planning on things going bad...

Not sure when you are starting your 3 year window...but I think it's longer than that considering the window hasn't really opened yet. If you want to win in three years you certainly don't want to be trading Kreider for picks and prospects. But I think the organization is looking at more than 3 years. We have the youngest team in the league. After next season a ton of cap space is being cleared. I think the window really begins in the 21-22 season and runs from there. That's why I move Kreider.

Sorry, I don't see it happening. He's had two chances to go to a contender and has turned them down flat. It's obvious he wants to retire as a Ranger. I honestly believe he'll retired before considering going elsewhere.

I don’t see it either. I just feel that the Avs are the most interesting option because of how good they’ve been and the enticement of some fellow Swedes. I still think that you’re correct and Hank intends to retire a Ranger. Calling that a 99.9% outcome, this is the .1% team I could actually see him going to, for some reason.

I throw up in my mouth a little when I see the suggestion to just buy Kreider out in a couple years

Seems incredibly short sighted

Hajek down, no other roster move. Wonder who's spot he'll take down there. They have been using 4 right handed D and two left and all the RHD have been pretty good. Maybe he'll take some of Ebert or LoVerde's time. Keane plays no matter what and Raddysh has been better than the other two.

This is a good move. Hajek needs to play
