"You know, there’s a business aspect to all this; there’s an uncertainty piece to it – that’s not easy for people to handle. We’re all human beings."

If you plan on keeping the player, you squash these things before they become a distraction.

It makes more sense to sell him for meh then to keep him around and let him walk for nothing.

Let him walk...lol, come on...you're smarter than that.

I think GMs in this league know what Zuccarello brings. Many teams would love to have him, just like the Rangers. But it's a matter of trade value vs team value. If the Rangers can't get what they think he's worth, they'll go for a contract extension.

If they were interested in extending him they would have met with him and his agent about staying by now. Thats what happens this time of year with guys who are pending UFA's (See: Duchene, Stone, Bobrovsky, Panarin.) I know you don't really don't follow this team outside of Zuccarello matters, but they went through a pretty long and public ordeal with Callahan and Girardi. Staal less so because he ended up signing before it was crunch time. Hell, it even happened with Zucc the last time he was a pending UFA.

Instead, we've heard nothing about a possible extension. Zip, Zilch, Zero (this applies to Hayes too.) This is how things played out with Nash and Grabner last year too.

Pay attention to Gorton's actions, they carry more weight than what anyone else says.

It may, it may not.

A lot of it depends on what else they do/how lucky they get in the lottery/how whats already here develops.

I don't see a bunch of people pushing Z and Kreider out the door though. I think the attitude towards trading those guys is that it will take a massive offer.

Having not watched much of this season or knowing really what the asks for are contract-wise from Kreider/Hayes, my question to the bolded is: Why are people trying to offload Hayes yesterday instead of signing him long-term? By all accounts I've seen, he's been a top 3 player on this team almost nightly. Lots of praise coupled with "He'll be worth a pretty penny when he gets shipped." I've also read a lot about how he's "going to be too old once the team is ready to compete again" or that he wouldn't be worth whatever contract he ends up signing, but what has suddenly made Kreider irreplaceable this year? Has he gotten that much better? What makes people think Hayes won't sustain his elevated play, and subsequently want to trade him, as opposed to thinking the same of Kreider?

Disagree. Look at the McDonagh trade. He was a lot more vital to the Rangers and I’m sure they could’ve extended him.

Gorton is hellbent on rebuilding and Zucc will be moved regardless.

People want a 1st ++ for Hayes and a first for Zucc. Both I think are overpriced imo

I think the first is probably a given for Hayes. The ++ depends.

I’d say the first + is a prospect, at least on an Erik Foley level, probably a little higher.

The second + is maybe a later pick, maybe a conditional pick, or maybe a body.

Zucc is a little more up in the air. I don’t think a first is out of the question, though you may be looking at a Grabner type return (2nd + prospect).

But I don’t think Either of those are too crazy, and if they’re, I’m not sure they’ll be off by much.

I don't think this should really be a Kreider Vs. Hayes discussion. The one that should be happening if you want to have one is Mika Vs. Hayes.

But for arguments sake, you'll have a much easier time replacing Hayes than replacing Kreider. It's not a coincidence that when ever anyone has gotten hot this year, Kreider's been on the line of said player.

Now that Brandon Bollig is retired do you think we can hire him as a shooting coach? He might be able to help some of our forwards turn their shot into lasers...
I’d rather we pry Babs from TB and keep her here full-time to help elevate the teams skating.

Not too long ago, we were one of the fastest teams in the league. We’re evidently slower this year.

Guys like Howden, Andersson, and yes, Chytil could learn a lot from that old and fermented skating goddess.

Agreed

Although I don’t think she is exclusively with Tampa. I know Toronto has her listed as their skating coach.

Lias is the one I’d get with her at all costs

The Rangers are going to be in position to take a forward high in the draft this year if Byram is off the board or the Rangers don't like him.

If the Rangers deal Kreider, I'd look to get defense back

Kreider to Dallas for Heiskanen (not happening but can dream)

Kreider to Carolina for Adam Fox, 2019 1st. They want a scoring winger.

Start rebuilding the defense.
Not enough

But in this fractured universe in which the Rangers — and especially their veterans without no-move clauses — are living, Shattenkirk’s improved play not only makes him more valuable to the team, but more attractive to contenders who might be interested in his particular skill set. The better he plays, the more likely he punches his ticket out of town less than two seasons into his Broadway run.

“I haven’t thought about the possibility too much, but I also don’t want to say that I’m numb to it,” said Shattenkirk, who was traded as a deadline rental from St. Louis to Washington two years ago. “Because of my past, I’m always aware of it, but I’m not worried about it, either.

“I have enough to worry about on my own plate.”
Shattenkirk has two years at an annual $6.65 million cap hit remaining on the four-year, $26.6 million contract he signed as a free agent July 1, 2017. It was an offer to which the Rangers couldn’t say no after it was pitched to them by the New Rochelle native’s representative. Shattenkirk has a modified no-trade clause. Last July, per his contract, he provided the Blueshirts with a list of 10 teams that are off-limits.

Panarin is a hypothetical that makes less and less sense everyday because, as good as for a young player to watch a star player succeed, I need to do AB and C, signing a UFA to fill that role isn't the best idea... kind of like promoting an NCO because he went to college rather than being in the thick of it with the enlisted men.

Jagr, Naslund (on his way out anyhow, but more to my point), Gaborik, Richards, Nash, St. Louis--all acquired differently but the dynamic is the same, and it hasn't worked. Bad for all parties because, just like those guys, the rest of the team just isn't on their level, so while trying to bridge the gap, the star player's production goes down (unless it's Jagr, and there are maybe two or 3 modern Jagr's in the NHL in 2019).

Had the other stars been up to the task with St. Louis, NYR would not only have won a Cup one of those years, he might have played for another year or two.

It's done 0 good for our team, and while people still hold out on Kreider scoring 40+, most of us over 25 can easily see he isn't a first line player. Still he is one of the two best forwards.

I think March is the best time to trade Kreider--get big overpayment, and if the past is any indication, he probably won't be this good again. I think the front office is at the point where they wanna home-grow the cream of the crop, surrounding him with other skill guys to push themselves to his level.

It's time to maximize value. The goal SHOULD be to get as close to Hughes as possible. No reason this team can't get two top-10 picks. They also need to ship out where possible. Vesey might get a top-40 pick. DeAngelo, while I pick on him a lot, is 23 and can't crack a horrid defense. You guys can be as patient as you want as Kreider reverts back to 20+ goals and DeAngelo 15 points in 55 games for the next five years but why?

Riddle me this:

Why can’t Kreider be moved and re-signed next summer?

It’s not something we see too often, but I don’t see an edict from god forbidding it.

Just some food for thought.

Ohhh. I know!

Because unlike what most Ranger fans think, the New York Rangers aren't some magical destination where everyone wants to play.

Our team isn't any different from the Bruins, Blackhawks, Maple Leafs etc. Some players want to play for us (Shattenkirk) and some players honestly do not care and have their hearts elsewhere (van Riemsdyk going back to Philly is a great example).

Looking at a guy like Kreider, I'd guess his preference in free agency would be Boston, where he was born and raised, played his college hockey etc.

And that team is a Cup contender and looks to be one for at least next couple seasons. Would be very tempting for Kreider.
