Brooks wants a process over that has only begun in earnest back in March. Granted, so do quite a few posters here. So, his basic premise is wrong. Aside from Andersson, the players he identified -Vesey and Buchnevich, for example - are not players you build around. And even though Andersson was selected 7OA, I have my doubts that he’s also a player you build around. And that’s the basic flaw of his premise. Quite frankly, it was fairly obvious what Gorton was doing. The Howdens, Hajeks and Lindgrens are all support players and allow the organization to build up depth. But, the draft was going to be where the Rangers went after the players with high end potential. And four of the first round picks were exactly that. Brooks is failing to understand that the whole system needed to be rebuilt and that not every prospect is going to be on the team when this team starts contending. It’s the accumulation of assets, and identifying which players will be the core. And that’s not an overnight process that’s going to produce immediate results. Larry’s not fond of the pain the Rangers are going through.
I wish I could pin this post.

Kreider at 50% and Pionk for Adam Larsson and Puljujärvi

Best argument against that trade — PC would expose previous mistakes even more clear.

I personally have no interest in getting another LD like Klefbom. I wouldn’t be worried about our left side even if we moved all 4 guys we used there this year...

Oof...that proposal. Is it your goal to give Chiarelli a chance at redemption?

before we can truly be contenders we need a #1 d and we dont have that in our system yet. closest thing to it is brady skjei but like ive harped on its not even close to a sure thing he gets there and he needs to develop in a proper role in order for us to find out

since 2010, the stanley cup champions have had keith, chara, doughty, keith, doughty, keith, letang, EXCEPTION(pens), carlson.

the exception was that letang was injured leaving the pens with no elite d, but hainsey and schultz stepped up big time and the pens had the benefit of crosby malkin.

point to this was that 1st round picks are great and all, and so are prospects, but if we dont get a #1 defenseman out of those picks and prospects, i think were going to end up being very disappointed in the results coming out the other side of this rebuild.

to me priority #1 after finishing top 3 this season to get one of the 3 big F’s is getting that defenseman

Same as in a younger Hayes with 7 years of control?

I'd take that.
there's risk involved. We might not get a Hayes and past results aren't that great.

So, say we do get a Hayes... we'd have to wait until 2027-28 to fully realize his potential? at that point will we trade him away and repeat the process?

Or you have a guy who is a useful, cheap option to support the better players in your lineup.

I'd love for the return to eventually be a better player than Hayes, but the risk of it not being so is not a reason to stay away from making this trade.

I don’t get the talk about Brooks article. What is it that he saying, that it would be nice for us to hit a home-run for once? Many have talked about the same thing here.

In a sense I do however think that he is overlooking Pionk a bit. He has really stepped up faster and taken a bigger role than what could be expected.

Not at all. Larsson would definitely be a great add for us. A year younger than Kreider. Possibly the best hitter on defense in hockey. Can move the puck and has a good shot.. Puljujärvi is a 20 y/o 6’5 right shooting winger who has tremendous instincts, very high potential.

EDM get a very cheap D in Pionk who can log minutes and a winger in Kreider who might fit well with McDavid and bring much needed experience to that team, but that is 1 year away from UFA.

Adam Larsson is definitely one of those players who would have had a tremendous reputation if he played for a better team. Not a great No 1, but he got everything. His hitting game is unbelievable.

If we are retaining on Kreider AND adding Pionk, Larsson and Puljujarvi is about as unspectacular of a return as I could imagine. Chia would be laughing all the way to the bank.

We have support players coming out the ears

I'd rather overpay for a chance at elite talent than get more of the same.. Hayes and Andersson for Colorado's 1sts.

Hayes for a late 1st and mid-tier prospect does nothing for us IMO

Larsson's complete lack of offense really backs this up.

The only high potential that should be associated with Puljujarvi is the potential of him being traded.

Moving Kreider only makes sense if a we're getting a high level player who is significantly younger than CK. Moving him for a d-man his age does nothing for us. If we're not concerned about his age and place in his career arc (which I'm not personally) I'd rather just keep him.

Agreed.

If we were able to move out one of our LD and had an open spot, a trade around Buchnevich and Klefbom could work for both parties?

Of course. It'd be nice for me to win the lottery too, but you have to be realistic. We didn't have a first round pick for five years straight, of course we didn't add any elite young players over that time. How would we? Since then, our early picks have been 7 and 9OA, not bad picks by any means but not picks that typically get you 18 or 19 year old stars who jump straight into the NHL and dominate. Even then, Kravtsov looks like a potential elite talent, the book is still out on Lias and Chytil is outproducing what anyone should consider a reasonable arc for a player of his age and draft position. It's really a matter of patience right now. I get his argument if it's a few years later and we've had decent drafts with real picks for years and nothing has panned out, but it's been two drafts without top top picks.

Again, he wants immediate results for a process that really only began in March.
