We’ve been hearing how much we’ve destroyed the rebuild giving Goodrow 3.6 if we give Copp the same we are gonna hear it all over again. “Rangers destroying rebuild because they are spending on their bottom 6”
I fully expect to see some variation of this headline in the future:

"Rangers may have won the Stanley Cup, but their salary cap situation is dire."

Why are we taking away a four game sweep? Are we doing this for the teams we were competing with as well?
Because it came after the trade deadline when the Devils were playing with a limited lineup and more importantly it gave false hope that we were competing for the playoffs when in reality it was a mirage. WE could not compete with the better teams.

The Devils traded away two (2) players.

If you're so concerned about players out of the lineup, the Rangers famous four games in May against the Islanders and Caps, they were missing Kreider, Trouba and Lindgren. Since you love removing games from samples, if we take the games Trouba missed out, the Rangers are 5-3-1 against the Isles and 5-3-0 against the Capitals in the past two years.

But if you want to reduce the Rangers' season to 4 games, knock yourself out.

After seeing what Seth Jones just got signed for, yeah absolutely. This coming from one of Trouba's biggest detractors.

I did not want to trade for Trouba. I am happy we have him. His contract is fine.
You think Seth Jones and Trouba are equals ?

I actually like Trouba but not for that cash - IMO it’s a problem.

we have 40 million invested in 8 players 22-23 .

Drury has work ahead

Has this board ever done yearbook style superlatives?

I think everyone needs a light hearted distraction because we're too early in the off season to all be this testy and argumentative.

With Pionk signed does Winnipeg have no space for Copp?
Or can Little go on LTIR still ?
I’d like Copp in NY

I’ve been banging the Copp drum for a few weeks. Perfect add, legit 2/3 C RFA that can be resigned on a reasonable contract.

PLD will need a new contract next year and will cost significantly more $$. His AAV is 5M but his salary will be 6.6M thus his QO. His ceiling is higher but the chance for it to become a bad contract is also high. He hasn’t been great for awhile.

Copp is a solid 2 way C who is good in the dot can drive play and has good analytics. He’s a perfect 2/3C for us right now. Should be able to lock him up for something similar to the Bennett (Fla) contract. WPG is going to struggle to fit him $$.

Kings Outbid Everyone for Danault

Finally, Friedman said the Los Angeles Kings adding Danualt in free agency was simply about the team outbidding other interested franchises. He said, “LA went hard. They outbid the New York Rangers. I don’t know if they gave [Danault] an extra year or a bit more money, but they were willing to go to a place that the Rangers weren’t willing to go. That’s why they got him.”

Friedman have good sources with us. This sounds like it’s coming from someone really in the know, perhaps even Drury.

-If we make this signing — which it sounds like we really tried to get done — we are never going after Eichel (unless Ziba can be traded which don’t think we could bank on).

What do I know, but I do wonder how interested we even have been in Eichel.

-If we make this signing, Strome must be history, right? Or Chytil. But Strome with all the buzz seems more likely. Bet Drury had had a deal lined up.

-It tells you a lot about what type of center Drury would be interested in getting. I love Dandenault’s style and I think that is promising.

It’s good, if anything positive happens on the ice when the season starts we will all be estatic! :)

This isn’t breaking news though

It was either Larry or Seravelli said this like 2 weeks ago that the Rangers didn’t want to give him the 6th year and LA did

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
Tampa got very lucky hitting on some huge pieces early ( Hedman-Stamkos-Vasilefsky) and some huge pieces in the later rounds ( point-Kucherov, etc)
Then they traded for and signed proven secondary playoff talent that was battle tested in going beyond the first rd in the playoffs.
Largely coming from the ranger teams from the Torts AV era.
Boyle, Callahan, McD, Miller, Stralman, shatty etc and they also we for guys like Coburn etc
All while keeping their bottom 6 stocked with cheap young talent from good drafting in the later rounds. Even when they were trading their 1st rounders.
It was an excellent strategy but they were only really able to execute it because their main point producers/top end talent, was found early and locked in for 5 plus years.
There are many parallels when comparing to how the bolts we’re currently built to what the rangers have right now.
We just don’t have a 3rd round stud like point. Our crown gem basically forced his way to us and we were able to get him for 2 2nds. You need things like that to break for you if you want to be good for a long time.
Here's a tip...it ain't luck.
