Byram is awesome. I only said "even" because they drafted 746413 DMen last year (also my profile pic) and acquired two in big trades and I know so many people on this board would roll their eyes and think Oh No Another LHD?

Three picks and getting Kakko and then Broberg and Hoglander would be pure comedic gold from a last name POV.

You want Sam to retire, don’t you?

They didn’t build the team around Nash, and he was brought in to be the third part of a Gaborik, Richards, and Nash trio
He was brought in to score big goals after the team failed to do that in the previous playoffs. He was the highest paid and more important forward. Ok, not built around him but certainly the biggest piece.

Kreider to EDM, get poolparty and their 1st. Could be fairly high. Puljujärvi also got a lot more talent than people give him credit for, 6'4 kid who was rushed to the NHL way before he was ready by an organization that never learns. Great RH shot, vision and playmaking ability. The last years he has lost confidence and haven't been allowed to play much hockey with the puck since he didn't have the legs/footspeed to keep up. Not sold on that he is beyond rescue.

Good kid to buy low on. Play him with Ziba.
That...isn't good.

How is giving up our only legitimate first line winger buying low?

What would it take to get Nolan Patrick from Philly? Why is Patrick a better prospect than Puljujärvi? How would Patrick look if EDM 'developed' [sic] him?

Kreider has a year left. Two mid 1st round picks isn't bad value for him. I think Puljujärvi's value is equal to a mid 1st.

Buy low is a term used to what price an asset you get have... ;)

I'm just checking here- are you implying that there were greater expectations on Gaborik and Richards than on Nash? Because that's just silly. Also, Gaborik fulfilled his, despite Torts.

He also got a concussion pretty late into the regular season of the cup run year and didn’t/couldn’t play up to the standard he had played up until then

Not @ me, but I'm not all that enthusiastic to acquire Patrick either.

I’m not implying anything, I’m correcting a garbage narrative that Nash was brought in to be a centerpiece. And did you miss the Gaboruj years here? All the talk about him was incredibly similar to all this talk about Nash, there was even threads trying to claim Gaborik only scored meaningless goals

You are right on both counts. Yes, Nash was a big factor. That cannot be denied. And it is odd to still be hung up on this. Shouldn't we be discussing how Pionk is taking time away from ADA and how Quinn is ruining prospects?

I’m cool with reminiscing, I just think we should go back further and revisit the 2003 and 2010 drafts. Those topics never really got properly covered.

But we'd paying a premium (Kreider) for a crappy asset (Puljujarvi).

I don't want them to trade Kreider but if they do I, like others have already said, the return has to be massive - 2 1st's and a legit defensive prospect.

Why not McDavid while you are at it, wouldn't you want him to? I want a bunch of things too... ;)

And that Puljujärvi is a crappy asset is your opinion, I don't agree. How much have you seen him play? Go back and read what was said about Max Domi at this time last year. It was only "he sucks", why would we want him? 1 goal in Arizona. Its hard to get an opinion on a young kid if you don't watch him a little more closely... How many base their opinion on Pulju from seeing him look awkward in a high light here and there and his crappy stats?

Change Kreider to Zuccarello and I’m in.

McDavid? No way. He's almost 22. Dinosaur.

I don’t think ownership is going to let Chiarelli trade their 1st this year, because I think there’s going to be someone else using it if they miss the playoffs

Literally four out of the five first round picks are vastly exceeding expectations. And the fifth is playing at the level expected. If you want to jump back to our most recent first rounders prior to 2017, both Skjei and Miller have vastly exceeded their expected value based on draft position. Further, it is pretty well documented that we desperately wanted to trade up for Keller in 2016, and that we wanted Pettersson in 2017.

This Gordie is clueless belief needs to die. He has been killing it. Granted, we have to still wait and see for how our 2017/18 classes develop, but he has been great before these classes, and the early returns for 2017/18 are looking fantastic. It's not Gordie's fault we didn't have draft picks from 2013-16.
Really, they have successessfully cornered the market on wusses. Have to hire worthless hitmen to protect these guys. Can’t figure out the 2nd round at all. Saw where someone did a sizeable work up on the draft picks. Gordie has done avg.

Domi put up 52 points in 81 games as a rookie, then followed that up with 38 points in 59 games, and 45 in 82. Puljujarvi has 35 points total in 126 games. There's no comparison.

He might turn out to be good eventually, but his production has been very underwhelming, and we shouldn't be valuing him at a 1st round pick. I'm sure Edmonton wouldn't be willing to give him up at this point for anything less than that, and as well they shouldn't, but I'm not gambling away one of our best players on the hope that Pulj figures it out.

Gorton would be the first GM in history to lose a deal with Chiarelli!

I know a lot of people aren't a fan, but I actually like Puljujarvi as a buy low opportunity; just not as a centerpiece for Kreider. Plus I doubt Edmonton is giving up a likely lottery pick without some protection for a guy who could walk in a year and a half.
