the UFA class for D is kinda high on offensive minded guys not great in their own zone and 7th D/waiver wire fodder. Nothing in between.

I was confident there was an Adrian Aucoin type minutes eater which is all they'd need and there's nothing. It's barren.

I think that if Strome is writing himself into the family photo and they want to sign DeAngelo to a long term deal, then I can see where both Kreider and Buchnevich are gone
Agreed. Last year was chalked up to an extraordinary shooting percentage and this year is being credited to Panarin. But he's having his best season since he had 50 points in 14-15. I happen to think that he has worked well with Panarin is a positive, rather than a knock on him. And he won't be 27 until July. So you're talking about what should be the prime of his career.

I agree we need more guys like that but I don't think Labanc has this untapped potential that Buch doesn't have. They are the same age, debuted the same year, and Buch has outscored him at 5v5 every year but one. Buch has actually
Okay, and he is literally still there in the scenario I wrote out

For next year
Skjei + Kravstov for Nylander
Kreider for Heinen, 1st, prospect
Georgiev for Labanc + 3rd
Re-sign Deangelo and Strome to 4 year deals
Buyout Staal

Nylander Zib Buch
Panarin Strome Lebanc
Lemiuex Chytil Kakko
Heinen Howden Fast

Hajek Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Miller Deangelo

Lundqvist and Shesty

Even more money open up the year after to sign ir trade for a higher tier LD, but that is a pretty good team

Who would be preferable- Ruff or Laviolette? Laviolette was a D, has the Boston connection.

I think the better question is who would be preferable, Laviolette or Quinn and the answer is Lavi.

I’d fire our entire coaching staff. Get me Laviolette immediately he’s one of the best in the league

Lavi is a very good coach, and one I've wanted every time we have been searching. I would have taken him over Torts and AV, and he was available both times. If there was a universe where we could can Ruff, and have Lavi as the D coach for the rest of the year, you do it. However, I wouldn't can Quinn for Lavi. Lavi would be a good coach for a team ready to take that next step from "definitely a playoff team," to "possibly a cup contender."

I'm still having nightmares from when we signed Nylander, he fired his agent, and then went off and signed with two other teams at the same time.

This was such a funny scenario.:laugh::laugh:

Vegas needs help on defense. They don't generate a lot of offense from the back end.
Well we aren’t trading Trouba or Fox, and the way Tony is going I think it would take a huge amount to move him right now

For next year
Skjei + Kravstov for Nylander YES. FOR SURE.
Kreider for Heinen, 1st, prospect . YES. Maybe Fredric?
Georgiev for Labanc + 3rd YES... or WE add a 3rd, get back our 2nd and Carolina sends us Gauthier instead?
Re-sign Deangelo and Strome to 4 year deals. OK
Buyout Staal. YES

Nylander Zib Buch
Panarin Strome Lebanc
Lemiuex Chytil Kakko
Heinen Howden Fast

Hajek Trouba
Lindgren Fox
Miller Deangelo

Lundqvist and Shesty

Bravo. Very close to my thoughts. I hope we hit the Jackpot at the draft this year too. Means we can upgrade the Left D as well using picks, maybe a fwd and prospects as ammo. I think we might get Tuch from Vegas somehow too...

For me, anything at or above 60 points on the year and a $4.75- $5m per year contract for 4 years is what does it for me.
If he gets 60+ points, you are looking at more than $4.75. The question then becomes are you a believer that he can do this with Panarin and do you want to see him do it again next year?

Heck, if he nets 65 points, he will get more than $4.75 just in arbitration.

Based on his struggles in the past I would hope that brings down the request on a longer deal vs a 1 year prove it type deal.

As a RFA he can't go shop his skills and the team has proven to be willing to invest in him as a person and player. I'd hope for about 4 years @ $5m per season. That makes him a UFA at 30

We have said it before, if "all" he does is enable the coaching staff to come at opposing teams with Panarin on one line and ZBad on another, that is no small thing. And not one that can be filled by nearly as many people as some claim. Certainly not a "sign at any price" player or even pay as a superstar, but given his comfort level with the franchise one would think there is a deal to be made. But still need to see how things unfold.

Tuch is fine and all but DeAngelo is far outproducing him, plays a more desireable position, is less than a year older so that is negligible, and ADA already meshes well with the team. It would take quite a bit for me to feel like it is worth it to move ADA for Tuch+

Even getting a 1st, it feels like fair value, but not sure we have incentive to move a player like ADA for just fair value

So essentially, Strome is to Panarin what Nylander was to Jagr --- a player of some talent, whose talents are exploited and magnified because he has chemistry with a star.

If it goes to arbitration, it will be interesting what market comps are used.

Listen, for 4X$5, to me that is smart business.

That’s the thing. Yes the Strome trade has been great BUT playing with Panarin has clearly given him much more space and help.

I remember when there was the fun speculation about who would play with Jagr: Drury or Gomez? It turns out the answer was neither because neither, for some reason, meshed with him. So, while it certainly helps to play with a talented player, it's not always an easy, anyone-could-play-with-him situation.

Now it comes down to will Strome pull a Nylander and price himself out for a lesser opportunity?
