Oh, and another thing..

NOT ALL MINOR LEAGUERS ARE 'PROSPECTS'

Most minor leaguers are just minor leaguers. It serves a purpose.

Honestly, I would bet a shiney penny that guys drafted in the 4th - 7th rounds are done so with an eye on the minors with outside hopes of being the longshot NHL'ER

Nylander is a 1st line wing on a bargain contract. Hard for me to see how we are getting him for Skjei+ unless the + is something huge.

How would people feel if it ended up Skjei + Kravtsov?
Completely fine. Nylander is 23 years old. I’m not doing it if he is was 28 like Rick Nash was when we did that trade, but at Nylanders age and proven production, it’s honestly a no brainer

I strongly disagree. The people responsible for Rangers draft picks could care less about players who are going to contribute to Hartford in future years. All draft rounds are approached with NHL upside in min

There are two types of players in Hartford. Those with a shot at an NHL future and those that didn’t make it who can create an environment for that talent to grow.

And he somehow never distinguished himself. It's almost like he's a pure passenger and does nothing to elevate the play of anyone around him.

I’ve seen Lias play most of his games in blue, and I can honestly say I have no memory of him making a big time play by setting someone up, scoring, making a big hit, performing well on the PK. He’s one of the most blah players in recent memory. I don’t want to hear TOI or usage excuses. The guy did next to nothing with his ice time and I’m not blaming Quinn whose helped guys like Chytil, ADA, and Fox develop. They played well and have become bigger parts of the team bc of it.

17 games this season, and only 3 of those were over 12 minutes TOI. Considering the pre-season he had, he deserved more than that

At some point you have to show something during an NHL game against NHL talent. He earned a roster spot in preseason then did nothing with it. I don’t think anyone realistically expected him to be a high level scorer, but at some point you want to see some high level shifts. The guy was invisible. He belongs in the AHL right now playing big minutes, but I guess he disagrees. The Rangers probably have the youngest roster in the league right now - let’s not act like young players haven’t been able to establish themselves on this team. I predict he’ll get moved for another uninspiring prospect - kick around the AHL and 4th lines for 2-3 years before ending up back in Sweden. Kovacs 2.0.

A 23 year old first liner on pace for his 3rd 60+ point season who seems built for Zibanejads flank? I’d feel incredible about it. If they are talking Nylander then they’ll be targeting a higher end defenseman than Skjei unless Gorton has some sketchy pictures of Dubas.

I wear #56 in hockey because of him.

He would have been a good hire to coach the defense. Has coaching experience in Russia.

You want smart defensemen coaching your young d to learn the nuances of the game. Guys that knew how to play the position, who can make a play or two.

Didn't hustle. No heart. No will.

I thought the heart and hustle were there just mot the skill and speed. Do need to question the will because he bailed on us and hurt his reputation as a leader. He needs to fight through it and return to Hartford

I just use it to describe a player who doesn't elevate his line. He plays at a ho-hum level, largely passive and not impacting the game. That's Lias in a nutshell.

Then IMHO this is too generous of a description. Andersson was dragging his line down and we’re not talking about an 18 year old prospect or a top-9 line.

- Brady Skjei I enjoy the thoughts to rebuild without him unless be start focus on hockey, because right now he dont even look interested whatever he is doing in New York right now in his sparetime!
And when Nils Lundkvist is NHL ready I don`t mind to actually move Brady contract which is sad since he has follow most of the US hockey development since his youth, but something is bothering Brady at the moment.. Maybe he is not that good as some of us thought some years ago when he played with Ryan McDonagh - Brady sometimes visible struggle on the ice.

- Chris Kreider I would enjoy to resign him - it`s enough to send Zucc packing - it`s not worth to send another good forward only based on age reasons.

- Brendan Smith it will be really hard to move his contract, but it need to be dealt with before it expire somehow or bury it in AHL.

- Well our goalie situation. I`m not updated, but Henrik can`t stand on his head reach playoffs like he used to in his youth so maybe next season it`s time with a new main goalie.

Is there anything on Edmonton's list (other than McD) worth going after? They are in freefall once again, and really need to start making the playoffs while McD is in his prime.
Have to think they'd be interested in guys like Georgiev, Skjei, Buch and a guy like Fast to provide some leadership and defensive pressure

Assuming terms are reasonable, what's the priority? Who would you look to keep given these players?

Kreider > Strome = ADA > Fast > Buch = Skjei

I was going to incorporate Lemieux but I dont see him going anywhere.

For me, based on returns and expected contracts:

Re-signed:
ADA
Fast

Maybe:
Strome
Buch

Gone:
Kreider
Skjei

Trade Deadline moves:
  • Kreider for a 1st and Jost.
  • Fast for a 3rd and a 5th.
Draft moves/Summer moves:
  • Skjei and Kravstov for W. Nylander.
  • Staal bought out.
  • Andersson for Vesalainen.
  • Lundqvist retires takes front office role.
  • Resign Strome 4 years $4.5MM.
  • Resign ADA 5 years $6MM.
  • Resign Lemieux 2 years $2MM.
  • Resign Georgiev 2 years $3.5MM.
  • Resign Jost 2 years $1.5MM.
Money out: $16MM (Skjei/Staal buyout/Lundqvist retire)
Money in: $25.5MM (Nylander/ADA/Strome/Lemieux/Georgiev/Joat/Vesalainen)

Forwards (11):

Zbad
Panarin
Nylander
Chytil
Buch
Kakko
Strome
Lemieux
Jost
Vesalainen
Howden

Defense (6):

Trouba
ADA
Fox
Hajek
Lindgren
Smith

Goalies (2):

Georgiev
Shesh

Total Cap Hits: $75.7 / 19 man roster

Obviously we wouldn't want Smith on the D he'd hopefully be traded or either on the 4th line/pressbox. Need a top pairing LD.

Some of my numbers might be a bit off as I haven't finished my first cup of coffee today.

I generally agree but I’m afraid Fast will get an AAV or / and term as a UFA that Rangers won’t be willing to match. IMHO he’s a type of player who should be on 2-3 year deals at most. I could see him being offered a 4-year deal at close to $3.5-$4m per. Rangers would be wise to move him at TD.
