He will make up the difference in one year playing in the NHL after his ELC ends.
Sure but who is to say he doesn't want to spend next year making money in the KHL and then come back in 2021? Guy isn't 18, he's 24, he probably wants to be somewhere other than Hartford next year.

I mean I'm sure it's a big difference in real dollars today, and these guys always have to worry about getting hurt and losing their earning potential, but even if he's a huge draft bust Lias Andersson is still good enough to have a 10 year career at SHL level, right? I'm not sure I believe in the money angle with this. Get new coaches, get a fresh start (whether it's in Sweden or in another NHL organization), of course.

Also regarding the goaltending, this team is arguably the best in the league when it comes to evaluating goaltending, and has the best goalie coach in the league. I’d be shocked if Henrik is not brought into the front office as an hockey ops advisor once he retires.

They’ve gotten multiple starting goalies for literally nothing. Raanta was for a career AHL player, Talbot and Georgiev were undrafted FA’s.

If Shestyorkin doesn’t live up to the hype at the NHL level, I have faith they would figure out another solution. And that solution may be sitting in Hartford now, who knows

I like Eeli Tolvanen.

From that perspective, it’s a good time to deal Lias. It’s not only him who has bad numbers in the AHL. Tolvanen. Henrik Borgstrom. Martin Kaut. There is very little hockey played down there, and the game differs a lot from what works in juniors and the NHL right now.

What I like about Tolvanen is that he isn’t just fairly good at something, he is exceptionally good at finding the back of the net. His release etc. Besides that he is of course flawed in some areas. But he isn’t like say Wahlstrom who just can be so flat.

I still think Eeli has some potential despite scoring way less than 0.5 PPG in the AHL.

Do you think Shesterkin will be okay making a 70k salary this year and a 70k salary next year? When he could probably make ten times that in the KHL?

Well what would be the problem with him playing in the KHL next year? Dont see any as long as he plans on coming back.

Nothing. I'm just not fully convinced he'd stick around to play in Hartford next year just with the promise of a "cup of tea" waiting for him. He's demonstrating the faster game, more traffic, sharper shots, etc., are not a problem for him. If I'm him and I have to spend most of next year in Hartford making relative peanuts, I'm heading back to Russia for a year and coming back when there's actually a spot open.

Yeah, and looking around the league, it’s not like we are in an era where it’s close to impossible to find a great starter. Many of the top goalies at any given time were available cheap at some point or another.

Obviously it’s not just alias, a lot of players in that 2017 draft has struggled. It wasn’t a strong draft which is why Arizona was so willing to trade that pick I guess. Obviously Tony D has grown into a real effective player . I actually liked Lias despite not having a really high ceiling so it’s disappointing to see how this has basically ended here.

That will be up to him I guess, just return the following year, I highly doubt he does that. I still believe if he is told that as soon as Hank is gone you are the #1, and you will have Georgiev as your backup, I'd say he will stay and wait out the big pay day.

Would the Canes trade Julien Gauhtier for Lias?

Well he was allegedly the name on the table when they were talking to the Oilers about Puljujarvi. However, I think that was moreso because the Canes felt JP could step into their lineup this year. Lias definitely doesn't fit that bill.

Yeah, and like this is basically a “revenue source”. Keep rotation among these guys and we will get like a 2nd round pick every other year. Almost... ;)

I wonder what teams that could be interested in Lias.

Toronto has always been a team that I felt liked the “concept” of Lias. We have had a lot of talks with them. They have pretty hard internal competition though. Vancouver and Ottawa are two other teams who I could see having some interest.

Or there are just no interest in him...

CBJ is a team that tics a few boxes regarding for Andersson.

First of all, with Torts style center speed is much less important. Why? You can basically play the transition game two ways. Either you stretch the defending team out by sending up forwards high and holding on to the puck. This opens up for the center to skate with the puck. Or you move it fast up ice before the defense can set up, or keep the puck along the boards until you get out of danger. Torts is certainly the later. The center becomes much more of a battering ram in Torts system. Or a balance player.

Second, CBJ have big problems keeping players. If they gave Andersson a second chance I think he would be loyal to them forever.

Three, they are rebuilding.

Downside is that they don’t necessarily have an opening at center.

Anyone hearing anything on Lias? I know he can’t be traded yet but what should we expect or any teams interested?
