Color me shocked. Guess they’ll let anyone be a journalist nowadays

It's not presented as news? It's just an opinion piece - never presented as "journalism." I don't necessarily agree with it but it's a valid conversation to have. It's the same conversation many have had here. Where is the issue?

I disagree.

Defense can be taught, offense is innate.

He doesn't even to be great defensively, hell, he doesn't have to be above average.

If hes an average defensive player, but above average offensively, hes a keeper and right now, that's EXACTLY what he is.

Average defender, above average offensively.

Well above average offensively.

Those same sites were updated for Panarin who played a later game

Regarding the legs, I'm talking g about the numerous knee injuries. They are a ticking time bomb
One injury to one knee, and coming back too soon, reinjuring. Not a history of injuries to both knees.

Whether or not they trade Trouba (they won't) not even considering it is an obviously large mistake. Everything should always be considered. Not trading him using the logic "we just traded for him" is not a good thought process at all.

Trouba can’t be on the table. You don’t trade high end players immediately after a long term deal is signed. It crushes your ability to sign high end free agents going forward. 3 years from now? Sure. For now there is no way he’s in play.

Well he also can't be on the table in 3 years because he will have a full NMC. So he's in play now or he's on the team for the next 7 years. It has to be explored at the least.

It is kinda funny that we went through a whole phase where people were like "you can't discuss signing Trouba/Panarin - WE ARE REBUILDING! Didn't you listen to Gorton???""

and now we're like "You can't trade Trouba!!"

Not that we should trade Trouba. But it's a speculation thread, FFS. Also - the team clearly moves much fluidity with their plans that most think they do.

Thanks, my miss. In that case, Trouba will be a Ranger for 7 years.

I find ruling out any options without considering them to be almost malpractice.

It's like after an NFL game when a reporter asks the coach "Did you consider going for it on 4th and 2 there?" and the coach answers "No, it was never an option. We trust our defense to get us the ball back." Well that's the worst answer possible. The answer should be "Yes, we considered it, looked into it in detail, and concluded that would have been the wrong decision."

Every option should always be considered. In the case of Trouba we have 2 other good RHD. We should look into seeing what NHL pieces teams would offer for him because it's literally now or never. If we don't like the offers teams make that's one thing but if we don't even consider them then how will you ever know?

That’s the exact problem I have with the news in general today. It’s not news. It’s pseudo events based off of opinion not fact.

I don't see DeAngelo being able to improve much defensively. I think for better or worse, he is what he is in that department.

Which most people expected
Let me give you a different perspective.

People around hockey generally acknowledge that a defenseman isn't truly formed until they are around 26 years old and have played at least 250 games in the NHL. Defensemen take time to cook, much more than forwards

Tony's improved a lot. He can be a hot mess when he doesn't have the puck on his stick and his positioning in front of the net is often lacking. That said, he has improved quite a bit from where he was when he got to New York.

This may sound strange coming from someone who was once his biggest critic, but give him time. There's still room for improvement. Anyone who trades for him will make that trade with that exact thought in mind.

That's literally what an opinion column is. It's what it always has been.

"The Rangers traded Kevin Hayes" is a news story

"The Rangers should trade Chris Kreider" is an opinion.

It has been and will be for eternity.

I do think it would impact our ability to sign future UFAs, but that would have to be weighed against the return for a locked down Trouba. (Would be huge).

Whats with the Trouba hate? He is a stud...better offensively than I thought and a great shot. Behind our net he can take the body and move the puck!! He is young and has lots of miles left. Whatever slot he fills 1rd or 2rd he is the real deal.

It's not so much hate, it's the fact that he would probably bring back more in trade than he 's actually worth. Both Fox and Denagelo have outplayed him this year.
