I don't see DeAngelo being able to improve much defensively. I think for better or worse, he is what he is in that department.

That Russian rink news is very interesting.

And in fairness, not all offensive D are considered poor defensively. The fact is that ADA is poor defensively, and we'd like him to improve. It hasn't helped that Trouba has made a lot of defensive errors/dumb plays too the last few weeks.

On Panarin- he's shooting 20% and is a career 14% shooter. So I'm thrilled with his game and who he is, but I think he's a little ahead of the curve in terms of where he will finish the season with goals.

I don’t know about you but I never viewed trouba as a #1 d. He still might have that potential but don’t see it coming to fruition without some improvements in his mental game. But he’s still been a huge improvement over what we had last season.

He plays 1D minutes right now, though he may not have to with this crew forever.

With the way things are shaping up we may end up with a D core full of PP and PK specialists, where no one defenseman is asked to be the do-everything leader of the band.

He's never going to be a Norris contendor or anything but he's a top pairing defenseman

He's had some issues with his play this year and things like his decision making. Which I find hard to understand because he was very good in Winnipeg.

Things like quality of partner and defense scheme matter obviously, but I just am hard pressed to believe Trouba has suddenly become an idiot since being traded here

He's previously been on much better teams so I am not sure that is all that surprising. I agree that every defenseman is going to make mistakes, but I don't think Trouba's mistakes this year are necessarily out of his norm.

He needed to get knocked off his pedal still and on his butt. We all have in our lives. I’m glad he’s recognized this is what’s best and he’s heading back. Won’t happen overnight but hopefully he gets back to where he was. He’s too good not too.

on Trouba he should be everyone’s favorite dman here considering what he brings and what we’ve all begged for for years.

I disagree.

Defense can be taught, offense is innate.

He doesn't even to be great defensively, hell, he doesn't have to be above average.

If hes an average defensive player, but above average offensively, hes a keeper and right now, that's EXACTLY what he is.

Average defender, above average offensively.

I agree with your first two statements completely. Regarding the third, he was not a top pairing guy in Winnipeg and had different expectations of himself. He is a young guy and I have no doubt will grow into the role.
