I think that really has to be the plan. De Haan being signed is 50/50 but the rest seems spot on. I also don’t believe we can start next year with Kreider, Panarin and Lafreniere in our top six. We can move two, or move one and demote one to the third line (in which case, Kreider is the only that makes sense) but I don’t believe we can have all 3 here if we want to have a much different year.

Agreed, depending on who they bring in to partner with Fox of course, but that changes the dynamics of the D core dramatically.

… so are you just intentionally not a really good poster? Let’s be a team that didn’t win. Cool strategy and brilliant argument. Elite centers and D, with usually 1 elite winger (Kane, Kucherov, etc) win Cups consistently. Teams that have their goalie as their marquee player virtually never do, almost ever. But split hairs and make strawman arguments just because it’s the f***ing flavor of the month here.

How about this… my broke ass will bet $100 that the “best” goalie who ends up with a cup this year is Bobrovsky. If it’s Washington, Vegas, Carolina, Toronto, Colorado, Detroit, Columbus, NJ, Minnesota, Edmonton, LA, Calgary you can Venmo me. If it’s Vasilevsky, Hellebuyck, Shesterkin or Oettinger, I’ll pay you.
You need to work on your communication style especially with your soap box so high when you rant about how mean other posters have been to you.

Second, instead of immediately typing a reply maybe spend more timing reading into what’s being written back to you (ie reading comprehension). Because your response has nothing to do with what I was suggesting.

Third, a couple of months ago I already suggested that it’s in a bad taste ….(edited)

Soucy and Vaakanainen are easily tradeable in the summer or next season.
I could see Vaak being 7th or the Rangers not committing to Soucy given that he was gotten for a 3rd. Also having enough ammo to pull a trade for more proper 1LD partner for Fox.
i hope this is the case.
I think the Rangers will either sign or trade for a Fox LD partner. I can also see them bringing back De Haan as a # 8cheap.

Sign/Trade - Fox
Miller - Schneider
Soucy - Borgen
Vaak
De Haan
this, depending on the 1LD spot, is a contending D corps.

Not really. It sort of averages out. The Rangers have two decades of proof of that. Hank was like the most consistent goalie in the world for 12 years and even, generally speaking, is agreed to have elevated his game in the playoffs. Average rosters in front of him couldn’t take advantage of arguably the #1-5 goalie in the world, even while elevating and playing pretty damn clutch, to get them over the hump because the roster itself was probably never top 10 in the league (excluding goalies, where Hank would have boosted our overall ranking). Likewise, teams like Chicago won 3x with Huet and Crawford, Pittsburgh with Fleury and Murray, Colorado with Kuemper. A top 5 roster is WAYYYY more likely to elevate a goalie who is simply “good enough” to be one of the 32 starters, or at least a starter on about 25 of the 32 teams. A top 5 goalie, we have SEEN, cannot elevate a mediocre roster to a Cup. We also have like… 30 years of data that agrees with maybe 1-2 exceptions in that span.

How many Cups did Hasek win as a starter? How many goalies in the NHL today have as large an impact as Hasek? Goaltending is - in my opinion - either very last, or tied with wingers for last position you should spend franchise athlete money on. If your goalie (or winger) is your highest paid player…

We have 23.15M tied up in a 34 year old winger and 30 year old goalie before the start of next year (winger for only one year).
The trick is to not get complacent when you have a very good goalie. But the Rangers have fallen into that trap a number of times. They did with Henrik a lot. In 2015 the Rangers had an above average skating group to go along with Hank, and last year I'd say the Rangers had an above average skating group to go along with Igor (performance wise, given guys like Panarin and Trocheck having crazy good years), but neither of those groups were top 5 skating groups.

An elite goalie allows for a greater likelihood of your goalie raising his level of play in the playoffs, but you can't skate by with a slightly better than average forward group.

Then there is the debate if the 40% extra or so spent on the goalie would be the difference in going from a slightly above average skating group to an elite one.

Okay, now that we know this is what we're working with the rest of the way, there is a possibility to get into the postseason and even win a series.

Washington made small moves, but are good. Carolina is half pregnant, but still good. The Devils are missing their best player.

If you manage your way into this portion of the bracket, you can still win. Anything outside of that is thinking too far ahead and very unlikely. Any of the Atlantic top 3 teams wipe the floor with the Rangers.

Defense is better once Fox is back. We can finally put the Lindgren chapter behind us.

Up front, they are top heavy, but there is youth. This experience is very valuable for them. Still hope Edstrom can come back and be in that group.

Overall, considering where things were 8 weeks ago, this isn't bad.

I think also one of Miller or Schneider is moved in a deal for a Top 6 forward.

Sign - Fox
Miller/Schneider - Borgen
Soucy/Vaak/Jones (they all have played both sides)

The East is honestly wide open.

Missing Fox right now hurts a ton.

Going to be a fun off season watching Drury hunt for some one to play with Fox.

After today's trades I would be shocked if they arent in the playoffs.

Once they get there it's going to be just like last year watching the goalies keep them in games. If they can fix their PP issues they may surprise us.
Who knows....vintage Kreider and Vintage Fox....and some fresh faces and JT Miller ...and maybe Laf finds his manhood along the way ...and Shesty catches fire ....anything is possible as the 8th seed has won before . Hope for the best is all we got at this point .....so GO RANGERS !!!

I like Schneider but this does look like him traded for a LD while Soucy can play the RD spot . We will see

I like Schneider a lot too

However, when rumors come up with the Rangers it is routinely Schneider that we hear about other GMs liking a lot. I think he could be a centerpiece for a big move in the offseason.

The Rangers next ten games is brutal, it’s one playoff team after another. If they get in, they will have definitely earned the spot in the last 20 games.
Exactly. And I don't think they can go .500 the rest of the way and expect to get in. They are going to need to win the next 14 out of 20 games to get to the typical 95 point playoff threshold. If they can do that with their schedule coming up, that would be IMPRESSIVE and would mean that players have stepped up.

This is going to be hard. I can't see how odds are in our favor betting wise, I feel Ottawa has an easier schedule and Columbus are just better than us this year.

Something to consider is the Rangers absolute dearth of defensive depth at the AHL level both this year and next likely. There could be a scenario where Drury feels the need to have 8 legitimate NHL d-men on the roster next season. Fortescue and Emery will be in the NCAA likely and the kid they acquired from Vancouver is likely, at minimum, another full season away.

I could see the team liking De Haan and re-signing him for cheap insurance
