I understand your desire for that to happen, but that contract is toxic - no one is taking it without major retention or bad contracts coming back - then there's the matter of Zib having to give his consent to be traded.
I said do full retain
possibly we pay 3rd team for mo retain
WORTH IT

as to his consent, nudge him to recognize reality he/others do NOT control the roster, peeps are getting moved, he can't stop that

to quote the Ruttles, "get up and go"

12 in a tax free state isn't enough?

He's either going to get goofy money in the offseason or he is going to end up signing for a year somewhere because he misjudged the market and will take a stab at cashing in after 25-26 which would be bold with how loaded that UFA market may be.

Hmm, I know a guy who could come in right under $12m...

When HF starts to fail I'dl be checking in at puckpedia, tsnnhl and the NHL network channel except I think my buddy is coming over so we'll probably have a couple beers and be f***ing about with the guitars and I won't really catch up until he takes his ass home which he'll do before it gets dark because he lives way out in the sticks and won't want to run over a large forest animal.

I’m sure he thinks a team that is desperate like Chicago will overpay him.

Rantanen is going to overplay his hand. He isn't a 12+ player. If he doesn't take this deal he what? Stays in Carolina that now doesn't want him and he doesnt want them? And he thinks he will play well? Again, he is a product of the second best center in the game right now and then got supplemented when the best offensive defenseman in the league joined them. 8 to 10 million per max should be his value.

I’m baffled by the Rantanen situation. His agent is garbage.

Only a team who acquires him before July 1 can offer him an 8th year. Dallas reportedly was willing to go to 12+ and were told it’s “far off”. If you go to UFA, one, I doubt you’ll actually get 14M but even if you did 14x7 is 98M. Cool. 12x8 is 96M and no state tax. More than making up the difference of 2M. Are you really thinking you’ll make another 15M on your next contract when those 7 years are up? You may not even get a next contract. There’s no guarantees in hockey that you’re still playing in 7+ years. Meanwhile Dallas has Heiskanen, Hintz, Lindell, and was loved by Haakanpa when he was here (we became buds). What’s his logic through all this? Unless he knows he’s signing in Colorado but then that’s a massive red flag that the league should investigate.
