Thank you Larry!!!
Kreider and Zibanejad remain on the roster, but the Swede’s future as a Ranger would seem to be in the hybrid wing/center role he is carving out and sharing with J.T. Miller and not as the club’s first-line pivot. Kreider’s immediate future is more problematic to the upper-body issue that has sidelined the American for the past six games.
We have been told the Rangers are not shopping Kreider — who has a 15-team no-trade list — but are listening. We’re also told that concerns over his physical condition — Kreider has missed 13 games with three separate issues — has limited the market.
There is no rush for Drury to trade the team’s most senior player, who has two full seasons at a most reasonable $6.5 million AAV remaining on his contract. The Rangers, who are teetering on a playoff spot, could use Kreider back on the ice and on the first power-play unit that was putrid in Wednesday’s 3-2 OT defeat to the Caps.
Remember this, too: Kreider is having a miserable season. But his 17 goals are tied for second with Will Cuylle and Vincent Trocheck behind Artemi Panarin’s 26, and his six PPGs are second to Panarin’s eight.
