Then do just that. Because you have thrown a dart at this signing every chance that presents itself. Let’s see how it plays out because he is here and isn’t going anywhere.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that.

edit: I thought this was about Kreider.

Yeah. If you go by those on the main boards, that generally isn't a good representation of a fan base. They are usually the most vocal and the most... interesting. Go to a team board and it is a whole different discussion.
Agreed. Like @bobbop, I went to the WPG board in the leadup to the Trouba/Pionk deal and found the vast majority of their posters to be friendly and reasonable.

Well yeah. That’s the idea. You trade for good players. Even if he costs a lot Rangers have the assets to make a move.

But isn’t that a bit like someone calling up Gorts to get Kakko right now? Sure it could be a done, by a few teams giving up an absurd price.

Like I don’t think anything less than say Skjei, Chytil and our 1st in 20’ gets it done.

If I am Gorton, I am dangling Georgiev over Dubas for a hefty price.

Brian Burke was just on Sirius this morning saying something has to give. Dubas is going to have to make a move soon. The Leafs are too feast or famine (much like the Rangers style) but with a ton of money invested up front. Freddy Andersson cannot play the whole season, he’ll be done come playoff time.

Georgiev is a great match for them. Still young. They are tight up against the cap and he makes minimal money. He has played great in front of a bad defense so the transition to Toronto’s system would be a familiar one.

Georgiev and Buchnevich

for

Nylander and 2020/2021 1st

SO call up a F w Hajek out and move Smith to D ?

Assuming Staal plays if healthy but Haley can go back to sparing

I didn’t bring up Panarin. Pawnee Rangers got mad about not liking my post about Kreider so he decided throw Panarin in my face as a way of saying I was wrong about Panarin so I am wrong about Kreider too. No victory laps in the first year of a seven year contract. Let us see how it plays out. The other guy said don’t worry Panarin because he will be a productive player for almost the entire term of the contract because he has few NA miles on him. We heard the same nonsense about Zuccarello on this board and how the Rangers should re-sign him long term in the summer of 2018 before he becomes a free agent. Same exact argument with the lack of NA miles on his resume.

Let us see how Panarin performs throughout the term of the contract and just how successful the Rangers are in the next 5-7 years.

Honestly I don’t think he would cost that much. I don’t think calling and asking for Kakko is equitable. Rebuilding team that already has Fowler on a 6+ year deal that can take those minutes and add assets.

We know they are looking for an offensive RHD. That’s DeAngelo; who I don’t want to move but seems destined to go. We know they like Miller, that’s your prospect centerpiece/2020 1st replacement (and the Ranger can recoup a 1st by moving Kreider or Strome at deadline). If they need more, the Rangers certainly can provide options. Maybe Buchnevich in a deal like this. Maybe you get some stuff back from Anaheim. Either way, the Rangers can make a fair offer.

I know this is crazy talk, but if Staal can’t pinch in yet on the third pairing, call up Rykov and give him a go at it.

Lol, started what? Yes, I want them to resign Kreider. Yes, you were against the Panarin and Trouba moves. You want the rebuild to keep going. It says so right under your name. Thankfully, you don't make the decisions.

Being that Zucc is 32 and is basically on pace to put up his usual 15-20 goals and 50-55 points, I am not sure he is quite the example you think he is.

Anthony DeAngelo, for all of his warts, is an offensive difference-maker at the NHL level. He's more effective, consistently, at driving offense than most of the forwards on this team.

Kreider and Strome should be dealt a this deadline. There will be at least (1) NHL player coming back in those deals. Hopefully by then, Lias will be up full time as well.

DeAngelo should be re-signed long-term at $4.5-$5m per season.

Thing is, he's going to command a lot more if he hits 10 goals and 55-60 points this season. A lot more.

If he gets close to 20 goals and 55-60 points, he is going to force Gorton's hand I believe. At that point, yeah, they can wrangle with him for several arbirtation years at around $4m, but I would believe that if he is becoming such an offensive difference maker, Gorton and JD sign him long term and live with the warts. And probably look to find a Lindberg clone for him.

Do you think so? I mean $4.5-$5 is quite the bump in salary already and his defense leaves something to be desired. You don't think he'd take a 6 year deal @ $4.5m?
If he is closing in on being a 20 goal, 60 point player, the conversation changes. A lot. There are just not that many names that have hit those numbers.

Just for the sake of completeness, I also don't necessarily think that the right or wrong of the decision of signing Panarin will be decided by how Panarin plays late on this deal. If we don't get him if we suck more, get higher picks the coming years, our kids on the roster performs worse, and Gorton got a ton of cap-space to act with and can sign kids to better contracts and/or make trades.

If we on the other hand signs him, we get where we are right now.

Nobody can foresee exactly, or even broadly, how either scenario would/will play out. There is a significant risk with Panarin, OTOH its not extreme since worst case is an injury and LTIR.

With that said, I am hopeful that Panarin will play well throughout his contract. But not as well as he plays right now (not that I would rule out that he becomes the next MSL either).

The biggest "downside" is probably that we will get better a little faster, and not draft as well, but lol that can also be an "upside" since kinds tends to get depressed and become bad players if they play year in year out for a horrible team.

You’re damn right I am because unlike you I am not a robot and I have some loyalty, connection, and joy out of watching certain players not just the Organization. It’s something you are without and fail to realize exists while then scolding the fans that do have those ties. You don’t have to always be cold and ruthless with every player that has hit a certain age as if they have soured like bad milk in the fridge. And quite honestly that’s not the case. Its why Hank got the contract he did, the Organization paid him what he was due in December of 2013. What happened after that? A SCF run in 2014. A President’s trophy team in 2015 that should have won the cup. But would we have had those opportunities without him signed? I am sure you think otherwise. Every team does it with their franchise players and yet you want to scrutinize the guy until no end.

Kreider for all his warts has been a solid player. He hasn’t been bad, he hasn’t been great. He has been consistently streaky throughout his career. But when he does bring it to the ice he is damn good and very unique in that there are not many players that possess the same physical attributes as him. And during this rebuild transition period, he has shown to be a great leader in the lockerroom and on the ice as has been documented so many times. He is having a positive impact on the kids. He is doing a lot of right for this organization and he is not making it a circus with the situation, handling it like a pro.

Will I be upset if and when he is moved, sure I will be because I’m not some lifeless robot. But will I understand it, absolutely. I just won’t shove him out the door on his ass like you are so eager to do because you think you know the only path to success.

And lastly, because I hope he does re-sign at amicable terms for a multitude of reasons, that isn’t because I’m a “fan boy”, it just makes me human.

Focker out.

The Rangers were the ones who started the rebuild. The Rangers have to see it through. They can’t go back to the short cut days. If you had your way, the Rangers would not have had any substantial rebuild. You’re always worry about the resale value of your season tickets and the effect of a bad team has on ticket resale value.

Kreider isn’t worth whatever he gets in his next contract. Power forwards signed to long term contracts are bad contracts. Okposo. Neal. Ladd Benn. JVR. Pacioretty. Lucic. They don’t age well.

Kreider has been invisible. I hope he wakes up for the Rangers sake because they need to get a 1st round pick as part of the deal.
The Rangers are rebuilding exactly the way I expected, short and to the point.

You are right, I have no stomach for an extended rebuild. I’ve seen way too many “rebuilds” stretch into eras. The Islanders, the Maple Leafs, the Panthers, the Sabres, the Coyotes and on and on. Here in Arizona, I’ve watched some of the worst hockey imaginable over the last seven years and the continued erosion of the fan base. I didn’t sign up for that.

Your analysis seemingly discounts veteran leadership, a most important part of the rebuild. Keep in mind, Staal is out the door this summer and Henrik mostly likely leaves next summer or sooner. You don’t need 1 or 2 veteran leaders, you need several.

You wanted to rip this out to the studs...trade everyone including keepers like Mika. Sorry but that is not the proper or appropriate way to rebuild.

If the Rangers cannot sign Kreider for a reasonable contract length, he will have to be monetized. I hope it doesn’t go that way but I understand if it does. But if it does, I hope they reinvest the money in another young veteran (e.g. Trouba, Panarin) who can help lead this team in the future.

Signing UFAs is the cost of doing business in this league. Every team has older players with problematic contracts. You're either signing your own soon-to-be UFA or some other teams. Guys in their late 20s come up for new deals every damn year. That's life.

I'm good with 4 or 5 years at that but do you think that will get it done if he has 50 points? I'd love to see them try him on the off side and see if he can replace someone in our top 4.

Most likely Rangers will not win a Stanley Cup the next seven years, with or without Panarin. But we should not underestimate Panarins role in developing the young players. It is likely much more fun for them to play on a team with Panarin than another young player. So yes, the first year of his contract could easily be as important as his third or fourth. To help along the rebuild.
