If it came down to giving Strome money or Kreider, then I choose Kreider every day of the week and twice on sunday. He brings so much more of what we don’t have a lot of. Balance to the overall team play.

i love what Strome has done for us but I trade him at the deadline or even after the season, keeping him for a potential playoff appearance while he continues to pad his stats playing with Panarin.

If the concern is he’ll be too expensive, I get it. He held out for a 100k this summer with no leverage. He could be a ***** to negotiate with next summer.

If it’s because we have too many RHDs, that’s dumb. Keep your good players, they can probably adapt to their offside.
I'm not 100% sold on point 2, but I think at some point in the next 1-3 years point 1 will render it moot.

Neither of them should be back.

Some minors moves Gorton could do. Thoughts?

1. Buch and Hajak for Sergachev

2. Strome to Boston for a 1st

3. Kreider to Calgary for a 1st

4. Skjei to MTL for a 1st

5. Fast, a 3rd in 19 and a 2nd in 20’ for Puljujärvi

6. Nils Lundkvist for Filip Zadina

7. Georgiev to Carolina for Gauthier

Line-up next season:
Zadina-Ziba-Kakko
Panarin-Lias-Pulju
Lemieux-Chytil-Gauthier
Gettinger-Howden-Fogarty
Miller-Trouba
Sergachev-TDA
Lindgren-Fox

Thoughts?

if sergachev wasn't available in the mcdonagh deal he certainly isn't available for less

You are putting Lias ahead of Chytil? What planet are you on?

Could see Strome and Kreider going at the deadline. Strome being worth a 1st is wildly optimistic. Skjei isn't going anywhere for now. Miller is still quite a bit away from being ready and so its our other LD prospects. No hurry to trade him. Same goes for Lundkvist. It would be wise to monitor how the young D continues to progress. All those guys are likely only going to get better, including Lunds. Let the marinate and build up trade value. Gives us time to figure out what is best for the D situation and also get the best return possible.

I am guessing only half of the moves that you proposed will happen. I doubt the rangers want to replace 7 starting players when they are finally starting to build some chemistry. Or do you want next year to be another wild year of inconsistency?

https://nypost.com/2019/11/29/rangers-itching-for-veteran-marc-staals-return/

Is Quinn just being politically correct? There is no one who should come out for Staal. Brady has stepped it up seen being reunited with Jacob. Hayek is coming along just fine. Ryan is a shut down D. Lets hope our HC is just being polite.

As long as Staal is healthy, there is a 0% chance that he will sit every game. Will he sit some games? It remains to be seen, but he has already been a healthy scratch for a couple games, so it's not much of a stretch for him to sit again in the future.

Who comes out when Staal is in? No idea. But it won't hurt any of them to sit and watch at times.

Kreider will cost significantly more than Strome in both AAV and term.

If both Kreider and Strome are moved at the deadline, the roster for the remainder of the season looks pretty weak, especially the bottom-six...

If the team as it’s built today continues at a 93-97 pt pace until February, I wonder how the standings will shake-out for this squad following the loss of two top-six players. There is still time left before this scenario, and plenty of room for growth from young players.

I don’t see any of those deals coming to fruition except maybe #5. And that’s wishing all those would go through.

Kreider is not getting the money any day of he week or twice on Sunday at 29 yrs old from the Rangers. Strome has been better yet likely gone too.

?

1 - no way I am helping Tampa after that last heist
2- that 1st is way too late IMO yet bet the Bruins would do it. Maybe Edmonton for Jessie P rights?
3 - ok
4 - ok
5 - well, I’ll move Strome for him
6. Yzerman would want more IMO
7 - wouldn’t help Carolina

good and creative ideas. Sharing my thoughts but thanks.

I agree...it's not a bad problem to have ....Worse come to worst ...we could always trade the Swedish kid if deemed as necessary . As far as talking about contracts potentially biting us in the ass down the road....the Trouba deal without a doubt has that sewn up in the back half of the deal . He could not hit the net now if it was doubled in size on his point blasts . I also think his defensive play is somewhat overrated by some on here . He certainly does not stand out like a younger Girardi did for us . Fox and ADA could be our 94 version of Zubov/Leetch in 2-3 years time . I'm not interested in seeingone of two like that shipped out . I don't think scrimping on D dollars is going to save you anything when all said and done . Championship clubs are build from the back end out .
Yeah I agree that the back end of Trouba's contract will eventually haunt us in the form of a buyout or lopsided trade but he's worth it while the prospects develop.

1. No we dont need sergachev. We have plenty of offensive d.
2. Sure
3. Sure.
4. Sure. Would love to have 4 1st round picks this year.
5. Absolutely not. Why and how is pool part worth even a 2nd alone? Giving up all that for an overrated player is highway robbery by the Oilers.
6. Not getting zadina for just nils.
7. Why gauthier? Seems like a trade just to make a trade. We can get someone more solid for geo.

He only helps out for the first bit of training camp and was actually practicing with his teammates in the offseason. I think the hold-out was pretty minor in the scheme if things. Just an exclamation point on a reasonable statement.

I suspect whenever Staal plays he’s replacing Hajek in the lineup. They could rotate in/out. Hajek probably needs a little break too. Good to keep the kids fresh. More mentally then physically.

Nieves isnt here and we can always call up Beleskey, Letteri. About that time, we can give extended looks at Fogarty, Gettinger again, maybe O'Regan, Meskanen. There'll be bodies we take back in trades too, either to help out with salary considerations or number of contracts. We'll be just fine.

Toronto has gone through half a dozen back up goalie candidates and Hutchinson shit the bed tonight. 0-4-1 4.44GA .879. George was .970 against the leafs in 2 games last season. It wouldn't be a hard sell. Andersen and George can split 2-1. They'll need a top backup if they want to claw back into the playoffs. There's no chance the leafs don't make a goalie upgrade between now and when Andersen needs a night off. They need every point.
