Carolina has been discussing this for 1,5 years. At least. They are the frontrunner for sure. A Young roster defenseman. A 1st. Maybe Another Swap of picks.

I'm guessing Toronto isnt even remotely interested in that. Any chance you have info on whether the Rangers feel like Scherbak will fall to them?

I do not think he falls to us. If he does We likely grab him. Free asset. Young. I have however not spoken with anyone on this though.

Hopefully you get an update on our situation soon, we have Buch getting back on the ice soon, and McQuaid making his way back too. Got to have something brewing.

I think the issue Carolina is having is that Nylander might not want to play there. Big money isn't the only issue. I'd wager Carolina has no issue giving him $7m/7yrs but that might not be the ask from Nylanders camp from the Canes.

well staal is our #1d right now with skjei here. but long term you are gambling that hajek and miller will be better than brady

If Pionk was the hold up, WN would already be a Ranger. I like Pionk, but I would be ok with selling high on him.

It seems like those are two entirely separate considerations, and probably heavily dependent on the prospective returns

Him getting bridged likely sealed his fate. He has played well. Win win for both sides.

I know this may come as a shock to some people, but 2nd-pairing LHDs, much like 50-point 2nd line centers, are not a rare commodity in this league. If the price to bring in Nylander is Skjei/Zuccarello, the rebuilding Rangers will find a way to persevere without Brady Skjei.
