Just as a reference point...

Kreider has played exactly 41 games since returning from injury.

Since then he has

16 goals, 17 assists.

No team is going to win anything with him as their best player, but if he's #3 or 4 you're golden.

So many reasons why he should be kept and not moved via trade.
He is perfect for this teams model.
He is on an excellent contract.
He's an excellent support player.
He loves NY.
He performs no matter who they Center him with.
He elevates his line mates
He's part of the core.

He isn't an elite player and likely won't ever be that guy. But he's great for the NY Rangers.

Gorton should be sniffing around Boston. Their entire defense is injured right now. Chara, McAvoy, Miller, Moore, Vaakanainen, Carlo all hurt. Bet they're wishing they didn't trade McQuaid.

Edit: And Kampfer hurt in tonight's game lmao

but McQuaid is always hurt that is why they traded him.

Hopefully by the trade deadline we trade away Zucc, Hayes, Namestnikov, McQuaid, Vesey, McLeod, Claesson.

If we are trading for Nylander I would insist for Smith to go the other way because that is one of the very few locations that Smith trade makes sense.

The Leafs can’t afford to take back more than $7m of salary that stays on their roster beyond this year. Any reasonable piece + Smith equates to more than that. He won’t be included.

Matthews + Marner is going to cost $22m.

There are options:

either the other piece that comes along with Smith is cheap or Rangers retain part of Smith's salary or some salary comes back along with Nylander.

Kreider is awesome but if he wanted $8M, how many of you would keep him and trade Pionk, who's been every bit as good at creatingu offense on an ELC... I know Pionk is not a main piece in a Nylander trade... neither would I trade Kreider, he's our best forward but has never been than a good 2nd liner who can play first line. He's had unreal stretches but let's be real... this team hasn't had dynamite up front in 4 years.

Where is the $8mil coming from? His next contract is likely similar to Zibanejad contract or less, however that is 2 years away.

He's a legit top 6 forward. Undoubtedly worthy of First line.

I haven't gone back far enough but are the Rangers actually interested in Nylander or is this just all fan speculation?

Isn’t it pretty safe to assume that we would be interested? Nylander is like a year older than Howden and a high scoring RHS.

Could we possibly get something done? Or is the ask so out there that our interest merely is of academic interest? That is another thing.

By interest, I don't mean "I'd take that guy on my team". I mean we actually would be willing to give up what it takes.

I don’t see anyway Kreider’s next contract is like Zibanejads.

Look at what similar players are getting

JVR and Kane just signed for 7 million a season

Wayne Simmonds who’s on a sweet heart deal like Kreider is going to command quite a bit next summer

With the cap rising, 8 million isn’t a crazy number. Whether or not kreider gets 8 million is a different story. But I could see him getting somewhere in the 6.75-7.25 range easily

.88 PPG with Matthews in the lineup last season. .55PPG without Matthews in the lineup last season. So is it a dumb question?

Also a very small sample size. If it was over several seasons it be more cause for concern. With that said I wouldn't move Skjei and Kreider for him.

Skjei, Buch and a lotto protected 2020 #1.

Hayes for Brett Pesce type dman.

I could see Kreider getting the JVR contract, maybe a little higher due to being two years later.

I think this is even worse than Kreider and Skjei. We don't know what Nylander is without the line that he plays on.

Not sure Carolina would do that but works for me.

Move Pesce for a rental? No they absolutely would not.

Of course they are interested in him, like all 30 other teams probably are. I'm sure Gorton and almost every other GM has talked to KD about him.
