He earned it after that game against the Isles. I think this is just the timing of the Brooks article making it seem like more than it is.

I think the interesting thing about that article was what was being said about Skjei. There was a point where I could see him being untouchable, but I think that time has passed.

Okay so once Zucc and Buch get back, this is a fairly deep team up-front. Not saying it shouldn't preclude the trading of UFA's , but overall, deeper squad than a rebuilding team should have. That said, tied for last in the league in ROW usually means top lottery seed, so let's see how it all unfolds.

Net/Net of it is that this group, as it's shaping up, both culture of accountability, and the type of minutes guys are going to be able to eat, is exciting. I think moving Chytil to the wing is a good option, as it speeds up his destination to a top 6 forward that much quicker imo.

I like the utility guy Names has become, but this team is two gamebreaking forwards, and a shutdown pair away from being on the right track.

Say Hughes happens. And say that Gorts can put aside the pleas from Rangerboy and signs a 27 year old UFA. Window cracks open next year, and the contention follows the year after imo.

Add in assets from the Hayes and Zucc deal, and some moves to shape up a checking unit that's a 3rd line disguised as a 4th line... those are all achievable by July of 2019.

Panarin-Zibs-Kravstov
Kreider-Hughes-Buch
Chytil-Howden-Strome
Vesey-Lias-Fast

Kid/Veteran

UFA Trades

Zucc-> 1st Round Pick & Body

McQuaid-> 4th

Eh, I think a lot of it is overreaction with Skjei. People hated him last year, but he was low-key one of their most underrated dman. He’s still a long-term core piece, IMO.

I don’t feel that way. Too much depth in the organization on LD. I’m not rushing to deal him, but, he’s not off limits.

Gorton should be sniffing around Boston. Their entire defense is injured right now. Chara, McAvoy, Miller, Moore, Vaakanainen, Carlo all hurt. Bet they're wishing they didn't trade McQuaid.

Edit: And Kampfer hurt in tonight's game lmao

Really? Where? Hajek has had his moments, but isn’t ready for the NHL, Lindgren isn’t anything special, Rykov is in Russia, and K’Andre is a freshman and won’t be NHL ready for another 3 years. Then they have O’Gara and Bigras as insurance.

Look, I’d trade Skjei in the right deal, but I had this same argument with Ola in the offseason. We added a lot of bodies at LD this offseason, but I still think it’s a really weak position in our organization.

I don’t think Skjei is here long-term...just a feeling I’ve had for a while now.

If it’s as a means to get another quality piece, then sure. However, like I said before, the LD depth is going to suffer badly without him.

We are going to end up with a bunch of 2nd-pairing Dmen, unless Miller fully develops.
Excluding Miller, I think you’re being overly optimistic tbh. I’m honestly only confident in Hajek to hit that level, maybe Rykov. None of that says trade Skjei to me.

Kreider is having himself a season right now. 11 goals 18 points in 20 games. Will it last? Most likely not. But with the points he's putting up right now I'm not trading him unless we really score big on the deal. His contract status is a plus as well. For certain not adding him to Skjei to get Nylander. Kreider playing with Tavares would be a coup for the Leafs.

Kreider next to any franchise center in this league would be unreal.

We will see in two weeks but I am almost certain Toronto will not be giving us an elite talent for an unneeded LD. And i do not want to add Kreider to that with how he is playing. I can join the trade Kreider now party but not in a package for WN. Only Kreider deal i do for WN is One for One or with Neal Pionk.

We were talking about LD in that string of convo. By the way, you’re talking to the guy that said Keane would be a solid overage pick in the last draft. I saw a decent amount of him when I was trying to watch Svechnikov ;)

That Buch + Pionk package would be awesome for the Leafs. Imagine Buch playing next to John freakin’ Tavares.

And can we give Chris Kreider the god damn C already ?!
