Again, the big issue we had with Hank was the timing... we wasted his prime years because the team, as a whole wasn't ready to contend.

Yeah we made a valiant effort to accelerate the team (by trading picks and bringing in the St. Louis, Nash, Gaboriks, Richards, Yandles,..) but it fell short.

In this day and age you need to time it correctly and Karlsson doesn't fit that timeline at all.

I have been pining for "Elite" for a while and I know he is that... but it just doesn't fit with where the NYR are as a team ATM and we would then go right back into trying to accelerate the team to catch up to his timeline.

My biggest fear just sitting at #9 is that the Islanders will use some of their draft capital and trade in front of us. They could screw up whatever plans we have.
They're most likely trading for now prospects, not for futures. Teams in front of us don't have any good win now players

Pronman's response to a Red Wings fan is epic. Also applies to NYR

You’re voluntarily killing brain cells to watch Peter Chiarelli speak? That’s bold, even for you

Don’t think we’ll see anything happen with us at 9. I think a trade for one of those Philly picks or the Florida pick is most likely

Well since you were clearly slacking, someone had to do it in order to find out what's going on which Lucic ;)

Agreed on #9.
I think we stand pat..

Take a shot and tell me who you think we end up with @ #9.

Despite Brooks article, I still think we end up with Boqvist.

Just a hunch..

I don't see anything good coming out of a trading Skjei.
The reasons are obvious..

Jeff Gorton sitting across from Peter Chiarelli

I looked at the picture and saw Vegas and Washington in the last row and immediately thought “Its not fair these guys have to sit so far away every year just because they seat teams alphabetically.”

Based on what I have read, and just a little off of what I have heard, I'd be pretty surprised if we took a Dman at #9, unless Hughes falls to us (and he won't)

Depends on who falls. But that means I'm getting 2 of the following players:

Oliver Wahlstrom
Adam Boqvist
Ty Smith
Quinn Hughes
Vitali Kravtsov
Joel Farabee

Or you could have 1 of those players and Brady Skjei, who is already a known quantity. What are the chances that the player we take with the 10th overall will be better?

I think Wahlstrom and Hughes are going to be gone before #9 and I'm not sure Farabee even makes it that far.
I don't think I make that trade.
It's too risky and the D is paper thin as it is..

Fair point. Just depends what you see Skjei as. Is he a #1 d man?

Currently, no, but he's young and cost controlled. Those are the types of players we need. If we are trading him, we better be absolutely sure we are getting a better player back.
