Reminder that we swept that club in the playoffs maybe 8 months ago. Here is what they did in the offseason:

They were expected to be middling at best even after shoring up the defense pursuing Ovie’s record chase, but clearly their coaching staff had other ideas and are capable of doing multiple things at once.

Time for some change in coaching / front office.

i'm pretty sure you know this but this kind of nimble change is not available to us.

1, they already won their cup so the sense of completion is not here.

2, backstrom and oshie LTIR whereas our injured players stay on the roster and play at 33% effectiveness.

3, they haven't traded away all of their picks, they have 2 2nds this year. Sandin, Vrana, acquired via hockey trade. nobody wants our trash.

yes, 4, they put their young players in a position to succeed and reward strong play. we cater to salaried vets above all else. i think this is a Dolan mandate.

5, they took a swing with HC and hired a 1st time coach with real chops. Lavi's last year they were a mess, locker room was a mess, vets and young players complaining, etc. We just keep kicking ourselves in the balls.

All of these elements together created an opportunity for them to improve internally. It's all well and good for us to fantasize about Pettersson, Miller, Tkachuk, or Cozens, but one forward will not change the complexion of this team. The defense is the problem. Fix the defensive personnel (replace lindgren with a real dman), fix the defensive system(replace housley and lavi), and hold forwards to a standard of commitment on the defensive end(f***ing move your legs). It all starts there.

People were laughing at me for saying that Mika was trending in the right direction.

Lindgren with a -3 today and that's even before flipping the puck over the glass on his lonesome. His dragging Fox down is a tale as old as time.

Someone tell me why it's so hard for Lavi to just put Miller and Fox together. It worked. And even when it didn't work out well, they were still a pair on the decent side of the stats.

He also didn’t get a minus when his horrible change put Miller in a bad spot.

Miller still sucks though.

It's not even about individual players, the top guys are all read+react players and it just makes them slow and flat footed, particularly when time and space is taken away. The mix is bad. Need more dumbass blinders on straight line guys.

60 goals given up in the next 10 games to drive the point home, then fire sale.
Always chasing and no compete. The drive by/going through the motion stick tap is cancerous

Emily Kaplan said the Rangers want more "meat and potatoes" type of players. These boys like champagne and caviar. Ray Ferraro said the Rangers need two more guys like Will Cuylle. Brennan Othmann is a "meat and potatoes" type of player and nearly everyone wants to trade him. Let's have more finesse players in the lineup. Has anyone seen my boy Artemi Panarin recently?

Those types of players are hard to acquire. The Caps have that Protas guy who is a monster. The Caps drafted his younger brother Ilya last year and is another 6-5 200 monster.

It’s been a thing all year.

He can’t wait to get himself off the ice and it’s resulted in several chances against. Missed the game today but I guess one finally went in.
Mika with a painfully soft goal, short side post. Puck is blockered away 97% of the time.

K’Andre was the Caps best player in our end.

79 personifies the empty vessel IG culture of our world. With any heart or self-awareness, he would be a great player. Cut bait, ASAP.

The last time the Rangers acquired a "meat and potatoes" type of player was Goodrow. That went well.
