What recourse would the PA have if you’re scratching the player for performance? If you’re not outright saying you’re doing it to force them out, then they wouldn’t really have a leg to stand on.

What some people are suggesting is like scratching Zibanejad for multiple games. That's not performance based anymore, not with veteran players with that paygrade. At least not skaters, goalies could be different. It would be obvious, that the coaching staff/GM is trying to break the player to waive his NMC.
It hasn't happened in the league before, because it's simply unfeasible. I wouldn't actually put it past Drury to try it, but there probably would be consequences.

Yes. Scratching for a game or two (note, on separate occations) is sending a message of poor performance. Scratching someone for multiple games is something more.

As long as that is in effect, the scratch is justified, even if continuous
As to getting the chance to demonstrate improved play, that is a matter of practice; the club does not have to accept/suffer bad player performance while he works it out. Also, it is the club who has sole discretion of interpreting if scratched player's game is now acceptable, no one else. This means you do have to give Zib 1x/wk or 3x/mo 'opportunity', but everyone goes through the motions and that's it.
If they have the balls they can within the rules push zib
like I said, chance wanting to up his career stats by playing again will prompt waive, but real incentive is not to explain to his little girl why daddy is not playing

The repercussions of nastiness like this would affect the organization for years. That, coupled with the fact that they don't have anyone to replace Zibanejad, make this an absolutely ridiculous path.
Not to mention pretty much unprecedented in the sport and, as usual, unrealistic.

Mess would make a great GM if only because of his trash talk....he said Kaako has to do better a couple hrs ago. 17 and 18 not too shabby. If I was Vancouver I would want Edstrom as a add on. Berard will be good. Kreider half hearted interview seemed like an exit.

Ive seen real improvement from Zibanejad. Kreider still pretty meh. Trocheck is trying to be a leader but that top lines effort is nonexistent right now. Panarin needs to be off this team next, if were talking about core guys. At least Mika and Kreider have their uses on special teams.
Drury needs to be fired if he isnt going to replace Lindgren and possibly Miller. Miller has looked better with each game with Borgen. He still has lapses. Vaakanainen is better bottom pair D than Jones by a lot. The same guys make the same mistakes that end up in our net every game.

Troc: age
CK: age-injury-effort
Fox: slow-out of position-soft-0 real goals in half a season
Lindy: poor performance-contract
Smith: extra picks

we coulda did what Washington did this offseason. they picked up a couple good defensemen and look what it did for them. they have a really good top 4 and their bottom pairing isn't AHL players either. what a concept.

It's not even about individual players, the top guys are all read+react players and it just makes them slow and flat footed, particularly when time and space is taken away. The mix is bad. Need more dumbass blinders on straight line guys.

But getting out from both good row and trouba with zero retention/buyouts and actually getting assets for them, is a huge positive.
Identifying that the culprits are 93/20 (8s already gone) is the correct answer.
Being willing to tank the year to fix the problem might also be the correct answer, that one is tbd.
Some of the problem is still Lavi giving way too much time to vets. But I don’t know if there’s any coach who has winning expectations and not rely on vets.
