Hartman and/or Trenin.

Hartman is 30, has 2 years left at 4 mil, and has 10 points in 34 games.

Trenin is only 27, but he has 3 years left at 3.5 mil and only has 6 points in 34 games.

It will be tough to make this deal in-season, though. Cap space is pretty tight for Minnesota right now and they don't have much else they could move. I'd rather not retain on Mika.

Ideally, we could swap Quick at 50% (625k) for Fleury (2.5 mil) to make the cap work better, but Fleury has an NMC. The only other options would be to swap Smith at 25%, Vesey at 50%, or Carrick, for one of Gaudreau or Johansson. Johansson is a pending UFA.

Mika + Vesey@50% for Hartman + Trenin + Johansson would save them 600k overall. Swapping 3 players for 2, the extra cap space should give them enough to fill that vacated spot.

Minnesota would have to add something else to this deal, I would think, to balance the value.

It's too bad we can't trade for buyout/retained cap space. I've been saying for years that they should do this to create more flexibility in the system. If we could trade Mika for Parise + Johansson + futures, for example, that would work perfectly for both sides. They would actually gain 870k in cap space without majorly upsetting their roster, and we'd only be left with an 833k cap penalty for the next 3 years.
I like Trenin. His defense is great. Hits a lot. Can win face offs. He really is a great bottom 6 player but at his salary, this is an oddly lateral move. We are just reacquiring a Russian version of Goodrow, albeit a slightly younger version so more like TB/NYR era Goodrow who was decent in his first year here. Just overpaid. I don't think Minnesota is deploying him very well.

If we get him but shed one of our anchor contracts, that is a net win. The downside is Trenin is taking a young player's spot. The upside is he completely replaces Sam Carrick. Trenin >>> Carrick.

Nothing else to say other than JT Miller reeking of pathetic desperation by Drury to bring in another thin-skinned loser that he probably thinks reminds him of a younger version of himself. He’s already set the ceiling for this franchise with the idiotic Igor extension, so it’s only fitting that he’s going to hitch his wagon to another aging-out player while pissing away assets in the process.

This move flaming out, resulting in Drury being fired and young pieces taking off elsewhere will be the most predictable thing ever. He thinks he’s Bill Zito. He’s not shit.

What are the odds that Kaprizov laughs in Minnesota's face when they offer him a blank check for 8 years and he tests the market?

I would do disgusting, unspeakable things to get Kaprizov in NYR blue. We could literally pay him whatever with Panarin off the books at the same time.

This team is hopeless. At this point the best thing for the organization would be Drury getting fired.

IF Van thinks Mika can have a Swedish Massage on EP its worth the risk. Mika and JT are main pieces..Kam and Brandon are not add ons. JT has a shorter deal and if its that toxic the Canuks could pull trigger. What do we say when there is no retention and straight up swap? Drury GM of the year!!!

If Van was willing to swap Mika for JT that shit would have been done. There is No universe it’s a straight swap.

Anyone who suggests it, you can immediately cross them off the list of having a sound opinion

From player to manager, the guy has to have one of the most unearned reputations in NHL history.

Could be good, Mika's contract and play are issues. No retention is paramount.

Me personally, don't want JT and his persona back in NYC.

I don't see us getting EP in any universe.

Drury can eternally go f*** himself. Despised him since his playing days here.
