Trading KAM increases the likelihood of Lindgren staying..... No, thank you.
I think there’s a borderline zero chance Lindgren is extended- if he is it’ll be for one year.

He’s one and a half bad seasons away from the Swiss/Czech league.

Would Mika waive for Minnesota? His BFF is there. The Wild will have the space this summer. I have a friend who is a Manhattan real estate broker. She had an open house many years ago. 17 or 18. Some homeless looking guys with long hair, facial hair and ripped jeans showed up at an open house event. She wanted to call security until someone working for said those guys play for the Rangers. They were not escorted out of the building. She asked me if I knew them. They had weird names. Yeah. Mika Zibanejad and Mats Zuccarello. Yea them. I told her they were making $5M each give or take $500,000. Really? She thought they were homeless. Guerin has the buyout money coming off the books.

What would Minnesota even be willing to send us
Hartman and/or Trenin.

Hartman is 30, has 2 years left at 4 mil, and has 10 points in 34 games.

Trenin is only 27, but he has 3 years left at 3.5 mil and only has 6 points in 34 games.

It will be tough to make this deal in-season, though. Cap space is pretty tight for Minnesota right now and they don't have much else they could move. I'd rather not retain on Mika.

Ideally, we could swap Quick at 50% (625k) for Fleury (2.5 mil) to make the cap work better, but Fleury has an NMC. The only other options would be to swap Smith at 25%, Vesey at 50%, or Carrick, for one of Gaudreau or Johansson. Johansson is a pending UFA.

Mika + Vesey@50% for Hartman + Trenin + Johansson would save them 600k overall. Swapping 3 players for 2, the extra cap space should give them enough to fill that vacated spot.

Minnesota would have to add something else to this deal, I would think, to balance the value.

It's too bad we can't trade for buyout/retained cap space. I've been saying for years that they should do this to create more flexibility in the system. If we could trade Mika for Parise + Johansson + futures, for example, that would work perfectly for both sides. They would actually gain 870k in cap space without majorly upsetting their roster, and we'd only be left with an 833k cap penalty for the next 3 years.

Okay, you’re clearly missing the subtext and I’m trying not to make it the focus. JT Miller is a full on MAGA, mud on my tires, country boy. We are not currently in a playoff spot, we currently have a very public culture problem unfolding, we have some of the highest taxes of any team in the league and NYC is not culturally aligned with the things Miller values. Since he has a full NMC and is coming off a 100+ point season, and his contract isn’t even that rich, he can very literally dictate what team he goes to and choose virtually any team in the NHL. Why would he specifically choose the current version of the Rangers?

In other words, of course you CAN do those things in NY but they aren’t the typical reason athletes choose NY. It’s usually the nightlife and exposure to other celebrities and opportunities. Those things do not seem to be important to Miller so the typical “NYC advantage” doesn’t really apply. What makes us an attractive destination for a 31 year old who just had a 100 point season and wants to win to come to this current dumpster fire?
Well, he’s been here before and probably has friends here. I believe he and Kreider are good friends. Something that Sam alluded to last year on air when he mentioned the two had lunch together in Vancouver. Of course it would be just like Drury to lure Miller here and then trade Kreider the following day.

He’s one and a half bad seasons away from the Swiss/Czech league.

I’d agree if they weren’t still playing him like he’s a top defenseman.

It still seems more likely than not but I won’t feel comfortable until he’s actually moved. This org has a history of loving his ilk way too much despite obvious signs of decline.

We would hope for that but I have not seen that.

He should have been gone this past offseason

don't trade miller. trade lindgren and fire housley. miller vaak jones left side. zone system. see all boats rise
Neither Jones nor Vaak are top 4 dmen. Not ones I would trust on a contending team, at any rate, regardless of the defensive system.
Teams still think Miller is a great valuable big defenseman with some offense. You think we can rehabilitate him back into something worth more to us than his current trade value?

He’s worth several decent pieces.
Miller looked very good 2 years ago. I'm not entirely opposed to trade him, but that leaves us with only Fox and Schneider under contract. Maybe Mancini takes a spot full time next year, but we will have to replace our entire left side.

It's possible that under a different coach and different system, Miller will again be the guy we thought he was going to be. It's also possible that this is what he is, a very athletic player with lots of tools, but not much of a toolbox.
Trading KAM increases the likelihood of Lindgren staying..... No, thank you.
I think the intention was pretty clear when they only gave Lindgren a 1-year deal last summer. The only way he comes back is if we have no other options and he is willing to take less on a short-term deal. But I don't see us re-signing him, and I also don't see us trading KAM. It's going to be hard enough to find 2 LD replacements.

We can re-sign KAM and then trade him the following year, if it comes down to that. He still has 2 RFA years left, so no trade protection until the 2027-28 season at the earliest.

I think trading KAM likely means Drury will be a big player in UFA for sure.
we should have traded for Chychrun. Walker could play the left side.... he signed a cheaper AAV than Lindgren.

Which UFA? Chychrun, Pettersson, Gavrikov, Provorov? All will be expensive.

dropped the ball bigly this past offseason.

But so will KAM...

Drury should have some money to play with and he will be needing a couple of top-4 d-men.

Orlov
Gavrikov
Provorov

I also think Drury will be targeting someone via trade on defense. Whether that is someone like Power or Byram from Buffalo or someone who is elsewhere. I'd be just fine with Provorov and Orlov

the best course of action is to plead with Mika to take his offseason training seriously.

IMO he can be that player again if he chooses to
Agree. Someone should sit down with him and slap some sense in him. Ask him if this current version of himself as a player is what he wants to be rememberd as. Time to choose Mika. Continue being shit while collecting a paycheck or put in the work to become what the team needs you to be.

Orlov will be 34. I wouldn't mind Gavrikov but not at a crazy UFA price. Provorov is someone that could potentially blossom into what he was supposed to be... under the right conditions... but do we believe that will happen with this org?

KAM will sit around where he is now. He didn't do himself any favors, so far this season. 3 years 4ish M

our defense has not looked good nor produced under Lavi and Housley.

NYR need a deal not unlike Gaborik to Columbus for Brass, Dorsett, Moore.

That’s ideal

Can take some money on next year if Vancouver wants Soucey out and Lindgren in for example . Dump Desharnais

Zib , Jones , Lindgren at 50, Smith at 50
For
Miller , Soucey , Desharnais

Why not Vancouver? Weather is decent, nice city, good team, fresh start.
It's further from NYC and Sweden? He signed a long term contract with a NMC. Maybe he doesn't want to live in Canada? Maybe he doesn't want to move his family. For any of the reasons why he signed to be in NY. But still fans will assume he'll move to fulfill their fantasy deals. Just because we don't want him anymore. It's a pointless exercise.

Also, lets not forget that he left 1.5 mil on the table just so he could get term and security. He is not leaving NYC.

Get rid of Lindgren and Jones. This is a must.

Maybe add a Gavrikov or Provorov but they'll probably get 5-6M

Gavrikov is actually a good defensive defenseman... has decent size and is improving offensively. I like him a lot but he's 29 already.

Gavrikov Fox
KAM Schneider
Vaak Mancini

is that good enough? meh. but Gavrikov is a massive improvement over Lindgren. It'd be reliant on KAM Schneids regaining form/realizing potential. Dont see that happening with the current coaching staff though.
