He’s eligible to play today no? He didn’t miss any games.
Yes, it’s almost a guarantee he’s playing tomorrow against NJ

Because the team needs Rempe the enforcer to keep the Devils in check. As NJ picks the team apart and puts up a 5 piece on the Rangers

But Rempe will be on the ice to keep them in check whilst they do it

Fox is easily on pace to take as many shots on goal and attempt as many shots as he did last year. He's shooting 1%.

A lot of that is luck.

I also think he's struggling to get his shot through, and when he does, it's through a screen. We know about the issues with skating, but he's evidently still getting to the puck, because he's still shooting it.

His ability to create and score with his shot suddenly disappearing is odd. Of course, like I said, you just don't shoot 1% and that'll normalize, but it's still peculiar to me.

I missed what happened to Chytil. Brained again?

I feel like Fox hasn't been shooting to score a lot this year, he's throwing pucks towards the net to try to get teammates deflections and stuff but it's not workign great this year. Tons of hits shots are just wing it towards the net and hope something happens.

Today's practice would indicate he's going to be scratched. Which I think is a smart decision, don't allow him to do anything stupid in his first game back. It's an emotional game, and he has a history with the Devils.

Literally nothing.

He just left and nobody knows why.

Why does everyone who plays for this team become braindead offensively?

They are definitely playing for deflections way too much. Kreider is out and their only look in front is still a deflection, this time from Trocheck instead. They need to take lower shots and fight for rebound chances. If you miss on the deflections, which the rangers have done a lot this year, it usually goes wide or is an easy save.

we can surely all agree that, internally, the Way Forward lies somewhere on the axis of:

Full Rebuild - tank, move expensive and older talents, acquire youth and draft picks, weaponize cap space

...

Retool/Reload - making necessary changes

...

Win Now - damn the torpedoes, trade all young/draft assets

many of us would like to see a full rebuild, thinking that the current core is categorically incapable of winning a Cup, and thinking that for at least this moment, our youngest pieces could contribute to a new team. However, despite what we may believe, this team won the PT last year and was 2 games from the Final, as in 3 years ago. Dolan will not allow a tear down. The mandate is to win. He calls the shots. Y'all have to see this.

Many others are hoping for a re-tool, getting younger, hockey trades, building around certain elements. Trying to change the culture is a big part of this "plan." Fixing the D, etc, similar to what Washington has achieved.

Unfortunately, it's now clear that this type of approach is not feasible. At the risk of seeming like I'm basing this conclusion on one games worth of evidence, it comes down to a really simple thing: Chytil. Without him, the "build around" talent on this team looks entirely different. There's an overpaid 2C with a NMC, and a character 3C, who is essential to team culture, both turning 32 this year. There's no center depth in the system. Regardless of what you think of Drurys decision making, even he must see that you can't build around something that's not there. You win with centers, and the Rangers just flat out don't have em. Noah Laba is the closest thing. Nice little player. Not the answer.

So you can't rebuild with this ownership, and you can't retool without Chytil. where does that leave you? one place.

Win now. The mandate is there, the pieces are here. They're gonna go for it and try to win this year and next. 1sts for Rentals, trading youth for Playoff Size and Grit (already started with Kakko), and spending to the cap limit. It's pretty much guaranteed.

Sprong on waivers from Seattle. Kakko survives this round. Honestly could see the rangers claiming this guy too.

Clear the decks the rest of this year and start fresh next year. It doesnt need to be this complex. Many teams had a gap year where they reloaded before being able to get over the hump. Tampa is a good example where they had a Cup final loss in 15, ECF loss in 16, missed the playoffs completely in 17 before restarting their semi-dynastic run in 18. 92-93 rangers are another good example.

Sell the UFAs at the deadline, trade Miller for another defenseman or young center and deal with the big 3 (Kreider/Mika/Panarin) in the summer. The Rangers are going to come into next season with a team that stylistically looks more like the one Drury has been trying to build through the draft (even if he isnt the top boss anymore).

This tracks.

It goes back to me ranting and raving that don't actually have that much skill, so they play caveman offense, but they also don't have the system to do that, and play their north-south players 11 minutes a game.

They're like a three true outcomes hitter that doesn't actually hit that many homers. They're Anthony Volpe.

The Rangers want to remake their team and the locker room. How is JT Miller at 32 years old that guy?

King and Queen 1-timers!

Because he’s still a top player who plays with balls.

Slipped on a bar of soap in the locker room during intermission.

Well "The Buck Stops Here" and all. Ultimately the President/GM is responsible for the team. But remember last year Laviolette got this team to the semis... sometimes coaches get fired because it's hard to fire all of the players... Drury seems (right or wrong, for good or bad) to be trying to ship out players he feels are poisoning the well.
As far as the path to Cup contention, in the present day NHL sometimes it only takes a season to turn it around. Look at Washington last year and now THIS year... I'm sure Drury has a plan, he shows a tendency in his drafting and in the type of player he wants to add, and it's the opposite of "country club."

That's interesting, because right now it seems like he just wants to jettison overpaid players. Goodrow and Trouba might suck now, but they weren't "country club" players. Seems to me if Drury was trying to get that vibe out of the locker room then he should've traded Mika Z before he resigned him to that long-term deal in 2021.

your comparison to other teams only makes sense at the most superficial level:

good one year
bad the next
???
profit

as i specifically pointed out, the issue under any sort of scrutiny is that there is no Center anywhere in their prime or entering it, let alone a top 6 C, f***ing let alone a top-15 1C.

there's no dynasty without that piece. the rangers cannot get that piece, ESPECIALLY not on a timeline that matches the rest of their "build around" players. teams don't trade that piece. Miller isn't getting it, Panarin isn't getting it. You're not getting it. There's no "start fresh and build a dynasty." there's only "welp these are the dudes we have, so let's run it back"

edit: by the way, JT Miller isn't a retool move. it's a win now move. it's perreault+
