I also find it funny how the echo chamber loves Chytil but hates Howden. One is the golden child, can do no wrong... has no weaknesses we're allowed to speak of.. and the other is ECHL trash. No objectivity.

People defend Chytil with stats... and his age. Howden has similar stats while playing with worse linemates, taking on a lot more responsibility and not being as physically matured.

HF Boards gonna HF
Howden does not have similar stats to Chytil. Chytil has not been nearly the anchor that Howden has over the past 2 seasons. And when he played with Kreider and Buch this season that was one of our best lines.

Can anyone list up the best expansion draft-exempt centers out there? Even if they’re still prospects. I know they’d be costly but I think the Rangers can afford to pay a premium. And maybe there’s even a diamond-in-the-rough out there. Any ideas?

I was listening to the 31 Thoughts Podcast yesterday and they were discussing how some GM's (in this case it was Milbury but others have tried similar things) have offered every pick they have in a single year for the #1 because their thought is that if they can get a true superstar out of a draft that is plenty to build a contender. So with hat said, if Ottawa offered:

OTT 1st + SJ 1st + NYI 1st + OTT 2nd + CLB 2nd + DAL 2nd + NYI 2nd + OT 3rd + WPG 3rd + OTT 4th + TB 5th + SJ 6th + STL 6th for #1 overall, would you do it?

Yes, I would definitely do this trade.

Hypothetically, if Lias has a good season in Sweden...wouldn’t the Swedish season end while the the 20-21 NHL season is still on? Would Lias be eligible to join the Rangers at that point?

If he is that doesn’t mean he’s actually good enough to join the Rangers.

People defend Chytil with advanced stats. There is a chasm of difference there between him and Howden.

Having said that, I still think Howden has the potential to be a Ranger for a long time, even if he only becomes a legitimately good 4th liner—maybe even a 3rd liner—if lots of things go right. That’s no diss, we’ve seen vividly this season how important it can be to have players in your bottom-6 who are actually good.

Would legit not surprise me if Howden is still on this roster in 5 years.

Howden is a legitimately strong skater. Of course everyone want to see more all over. But it takes time to develop. A lot of areas that can improve. Just have the game slow down a little for you, more time to process things. Find out what works and what don’t.

Chytil has his own issues. He is good in the situations were the puck is moved up ice N-S along the boards and a winger can get it to him at center ice after he has built up speed. What he really can improve a ton at is supporting his wingers more and getting them the puck. Also his game down low. But he is also so young, can definitely improve a lot. But it does feel like he has stopped developing a bit in those high octane offensive areas. His game is a lot about driving the puck N-S, and plays in which he open up things for his teammates have been few and far between. Right now I see him as a center that is a good option for those bigger PF wingers, like Gauthier. But wingers like Kakko and Laf are the completely opposite. They thrive with the center that can draw attention and then get the puck to then.

But at the same time, just look at Zib. Chytil is the age Zib was THREE years before coming to NY. Time is certainly Chytils side. No doubt.

I am sure Zach Kassian will garner some interest around the league as a UFA. But if he doesn’t I definitely wouldn’t mind bringing him to camp.
he got extended earlier this year
