That "4th line thug" scored 29 goals and 49 points in 1999-2000, not from the 4th line. Seven seasons scoring 10 or more goals, two All-Star game appearances, and a Stanley Cup.

we recall Simon differently
Simon had a 29 goal season and 6 more double digit goal seasons
Only had 1 season where is +/- was lower than -4
sure, he wasn't a playmaker but could be an effective winger, as well as a deterrent
Been quite a while since a Ranger tough had a line like this

My bad..Simon had one good season lol.
Wilson is a different breed IMO.
He's a player that can hang in today's game all while adding that old school element.

He's improved more every year.

Again.. I'd kill to have a Wilson on this team..

I think you're letting Simon's incident with Hollweg obscure the rest of his career. Wilson is a far more thuggish player today than Simon ever was. If Wilson had to answer the bell to the heavyweights Simon took on in his day, he wouldn't be such a headhunter.
Simon versus The Man:

I just don’t understand the Howden love. I guess he’s an obedient little soldier.
I dont love Howden but I can see a good player there. He understands the game and understands his responsibilities.

When he becomes a man and works on his first step, he'd be a solid player. The exact type of player we need right now.

Idc if he wins heavy weight fights.
He gets the opposing teams off their game just the same as Lemieux but you don't hate Lemieux bc he's on your team.
That's the difference..

Wow, I've never seen that clip, he really tuned him up. Probert didn't lose too many as one-sided like that one. Simon was as tough as they come & he could really play.

I can't see Wilson taking on that challenge...he usually drops em with guys who he knows he can beat...and when he fights guys like Reaves, he holds on for dear life.

I'm hoping Howden becomes a Dominik Moore or an Oscar Lindberg.

Agreed, I don't need Lemieux or anyone to be a heavyweight as long as he throws clean hard hits. My point was more about Wilson being a thug because he's not afraid of repercussions.

I also find it funny how the echo chamber loves Chytil but hates Howden. One is the golden child, can do no wrong... has no weaknesses we're allowed to speak of.. and the other is ECHL trash. No objectivity.

People defend Chytil with stats... and his age. Howden has similar stats while playing with worse linemates, taking on a lot more responsibility and not being as physically matured.

HF Boards gonna HF

With all the skill that the Caps have, Wilson still impacts games in a big way

This is why we don't judge people based off of raw stats.

And no one has said that Chytil doesn't have any weaknesses. He's much better than Howden though, and that isn't really debatable.

PS.. How much room would he create for Panarin/ Zib out there?

He's everything Kreider should be.

Lmao... like gaining 20 lbs of muscle is easy.

Just a fyi. Miller and Kreider probably average about 1.5 pounds of muscle gain every 6 months.

Buch is in good shape. Maybe... maybe he could add 5 pounds of muscle by next season.

Either way its irrelevant because buch doesn't need to put on muscle. He needs to work on his foot speed. I'd like him to shed about 3 pounds of muscle so it can enable him to increase his stamina and increase his foot speed.
Yeah I think Buch is actually pretty strong. He just doesn’t use it very often, which bugs me. I think I’ve seen him push opponents around and be shocked at himself. Like, he doesn’t even realize how strong he is. His balance is good too. I actually think his best self ids more of a power forward type. He plays too finesse-y for his own good. Though he’s getting better each year.

I’m into this. He just signed an extension there though so not sure how keen they are to deal him so soon.
Yeah. I think the understanding is Nurse like it in Edmonton. NY may not be his cup of tea. Though people do change their tune in that.

We really talking about the same player who has troubles winning board battles?

I felt like the only way I could sum up my thoughts on all of this Howden stuff was with a meme. This is what it's come to.

Hi guys...I guess some of you still remember me ;)

Some NYR fans on twitter think it could be a good idea to make a trade with the Wild to bring Zuccarello back, if the Wild retain at least 30%. It kind of makes sense, because he could be useful as a mentor for all the young players on your team.

So what do you think, is there a way to bring Zucc home?
Love Zucc, but that ship has sailed.
But I love your chutzpah!
