Interesting. If Ottawa came calling and offered you 3, 5 and Tkachuk for #1, what would you say?

No, b/c i think Laf is a sure thing as is Tkachuk with Laf having a much higher upside. Not sure about the 3rd and certainly not the 5th pick.

A sens unprotected 1st in 2021 added to that, that's a godfather offer right there. Even if it was the right to swap picks.

That challenge for me is that Lefreniere is the type of player whose impact is felt throughout the organization.

The line combinations change. The ability for teams to match and contain changes. The balance changes. He potentially frees up everyone around him and makes them better simply by being on the same roster.

He automatically makes Kakko the second best teenage prospect, Kravtsov becomes our third best forward prospect. Hell, Chytil becomes our fourth best forward age 21 and younger.

That's insane.

Then you factor in the mentality, the personality, the leadership, the gritty side, the desire to be someone with the game on his stick, in the biggest city in the world.

He's a rare blend for that alone. Because not everyone, especially as a teenager, wants that kind of responsbility. He does. And I think he can deliver on it too.

It's been a rough few years for Zucc.

lol yeah and his body Hank along with a corpse named Staal. Although we read a lot about the need to keep Zucs b/c like Hank “he did so much for the team”. They’re all spare parts now.

Oh I'm with you. I'm just saying that if Sens offered 3,5,Tkachuk, 2021 unprotected first and we could get Byfield @3, that's the gigantic type of offer that it would take to make you say "Hmmmm." But like I said before, we know JD isn't letting this kid get away. He's gonna be a Ranger and that is awesome.

Yeah that's the truth about the Dallas story. I think they offered Zuccarello $16M over four years, because they had to give up that 1st. But it also meant that Zucc would have to leave $14M on the table, no sane person would do that.

I believe the league has now banned deals with such conditional picks, not supposed to hurt players involved.
No. They offered Mats the same money but one year less than Minnesota. That was the tipping point. Dallas players pleaded with him to stay but the extra year was too valuable.

So more of the bird in the hand with Lafreniere I guess.

It's the whole package.

There are skill guys, and then there are skill guys with some special attributes. Lefreniere is the latter.

We're fortunate in the sense that he's the top prospect available in the draft where we have the top pick.

This isn't like 2017, 2014, 2012, 2011 or even 2006. Take nothing away from those top picks, or the candidates to be the top pick in those drafts, but I didn't look at those drafts and say, "Yeah, this is a guy who puts the whole franchise on his back and can take them to promised land."

Lefreniere can do that.

He's not a generational talent, and no one is going to win comparisons to Crosby and McDavid. But he's a serious contender to be in that tier just below that.

The fact that we are even talking about such a massive hypothetical return being fair really puts in perspective just how valuable winning that lottery was. Added a lot to the organization.

you make that trade and you’re going from pick number ten or eleven to three, five, and a young top 6 player

What did he say? I missed this.
some of the context of that clip is cut out but I think he's saying the Rangers were the most disappointing team in the play-in round and this is exactly what he said about it:
"Terrible, they lost three straight. They weren't in any game. I mean, Panarin, as good of a year as he had, he didn't show up, he scored one goal. Zibanejad didn't do anything for me."

Yeah, can't fault him there really, we were the only team to be swept and were held to 1 goal twice. The whole team kinda stunk. No issue with him saying this. Also, don't really care because we are getting Laf for our troubles.

10 realistic moves for a Center:

Anthony Cirelli (trade)
Nick Bonino (trade)
Jack Roslovic (trade)
Tyson Jost (trade)
Sam Bennett (trade)
Mikael Granlund (free agent)
Erik Haula (free agent)
Carl Soderberg (free agent)
Mikko Koivu (free agent)
Jason Spezza (free agent)

- Hell yes
- Not my first choice, but I'm open to it
- Maybe, whats the cost?
- No
- Kind of a winger now, but yes for middle six
- On a short deal, sure
- No
- No
- He's beyond cooked
- Hes either staying in Toronto or retiring.

I guess we should be thankful to finally have an opportunity to get a player like this as a 19 year old. The tier just below Crosby and McDavid is more than we've ever had before.

Kakko and Lafreniere are game changers.

I mean, quite honestly, the only era I could compare to right now is around 1991. The depth of our young talent and our list of prospects was STACKED.

He isn’t wrong. The long layoff from where they were in March really affected Panarin and Zibanejad. They just did not look like the same players. All the momentum gained from the season was lost. The wave of the high they were riding just died off. It was tough for them to get going. I hate making excuses but Panarin just wasnt sharp...he had some point blank looks that he was burying all year and didnt.

But hey losing 3 straight and being the worst team according to Roenick should indicate the Rangers were the most in need of the #1 pick...

It's really an amazing time to be a fan. We came so close with the last group but couldn't make it to the promised land. I'm even more optimistic we'll get there this time.

That’s a monster offer. Even if the 3 is Stutzle.
But something tells me to stick with Lafreniere. LGR!

Kakko is going to be even better next season. He already looked like an improved player during the Return To Play. He looked quicker and more confident, more involved and willing to engage. That is his game though that I felt he was being conservative about as he was navigating his way through his first year in the NHL. The time off gave him a chance to reset, absorb his experience more, and when he came back he looked hungry. That drive will be there in December/January and he will take huge steps forward next year.
