Do you really think they'll pass on a guy with that size, height, and weight and a potential heir to Kopitar for a smallish winger?

I have to tell you, Stutzle is on more than view lists as the second best prospect.

The kid is electric, and quite possibly could catch, or come close to catching Lafreniere some day if all the pieces come together.

The idea of him going second is a very real possibility.

How would you compare Lafreniere and Stutzle now?

-Shrug- Joe Sakic was 31 when he won his first cup with the Avs. The whole 01-02 wings team was 30+. Malkin and Crosby are still going strong at 33 and 34.

We don't know, but not every player declines like Brad Richards or Marc Staal.

Also, Zibby and Panarin can be 'still great' with their very best behind them and still be a valuable contributor duo to the squad as Kakko, Laf, and others are in their primes. You imagine in five years you have a core ranging in ages from 23 all the way to 32. That's solid.

I agree with everyone one of your points but Sakic was 26 when he won the cup in 95-96.

Interesting. If Ottawa came calling and offered you 3, 5 and Tkachuk for #1, what would you say?

Lafreniere is more advanced in just about every category but skating. Stutzle is pretty much at the head of the class there.

Stutzle has excellent hands, though he's probably not as cerebral as Lefreniere. But he can dart in very quickly and make teams pay a price.

Definitely has a shot to play center in the NHL and that could increase his long-term value.

If Lafreniere looks like a potential 30-40 goal, 100 point player, Stutzle is probably closer to the 40 goal plateau with about 80-90 points. Higher if the pieces come together. He has a chance to be incredibly good, jury is still out on quite how good.

That would be very tempting. A lot more tempting than maybe some realize or think.

Put me on the spot, and I'd decline. I just think you can't be the guy who passes on Lefreniere.

Having said that, the number two spot this year is the complete opposite of last year.

When the Rangers picked second, it was the easiest slot in the draft. You took one of Hughes or Kakko.

This year, it's probably the hardest spot in the draft. Because you can make a very good argument that Stutzle is the second best player and the most likely to come close to what Lefreniere is capable of doing.

I get it...particularly when the Rangers have never had the opportunity to make this selection before. That said, what else would you want to get you to say yes? An unprotected 1st in 2021?

Im thinking long and hard about that offer, if and only if I know Kings are taking Stutzle though.

But at the end of the day, I think we all know after watching the JD interview, they are already in love with Laf. They are taking him.

"Lafrienere no matter what"

Hi guys...I guess some of you still remember me ;)

Some NYR fans on twitter think it could be a good idea to make a trade with the Wild to bring Zuccarello back, if the Wild retain at least 30%. It kind of makes sense, because he could be useful as a mentor for all the young players on your team.

So what do you think, is there a way to bring Zucc home?
No, it's a bad idea. Living in the past is never a good idea. The team needs to keep moving forward.

A sens unprotected 1st in 2021 added to that, that's a godfather offer right there. Even if it was the right to swap picks.

No, because I just don't trust the ability to scout and get as good of a read on the 2021 class at this time.

The challenge with Ottawa is the gap between their really intriguing talent and a bunch of prospects/players who don't move me too much.

That's a real haul. A ton of young talent. Byfield or Stutzle plus maybe Drysdale and another top 10 selection next year. That could really put us over the top in a couple years. Not that Lafreniere wouldn't with the rest of what we have assembled...but we would be loaded.

So more of the bird in the hand with Lafreniere I guess.
