20, Buch, and Lundy is way too high for Trouba IMO.

Buch is just starting to figure this thing out. He builds a rapport with Kakko and they could be a real solid partnership.

Yeah, I have no interest in that at all. 20 and Lundkvist is one thing though I really want to keep that pick.

I don't see the immediate need to address the defense. They're not winning this season. Let the kids grow and burn off another year of all those high priced and/or bad deals (Henrik, Smith, Staal, Shattenkirk). Next offseason they can start buying out and/or trading some of those contracts with a year left and clear space to make a serious push at competing and addressing the D and other weak spots.

Probably should have included the Flyers.

The Devils aren’t loaded with prospects.

I really don’t think Brooks broke any new ground here. Everyone knows Trouba is in high demand and the Rangers have been attached to him often now and in the past. His situation reminds me a little of Ryan O’Reilly. High end players usually don’t get traded at this age unless there is a contract issue that can’t be resolved.

Chytil, Lemieux, Lias and Howden are not locks for this team and should not be viewed as such.

They themselves still have to perform well enough to displace veterans. they had decent rookie seasons, well not so much Lias or Howden (he was pretty bad ES player), but they still need to be A LOT better.

I’d say they’re all pretty safe bets to be on the opening night roster barring any unforeseen moves. And that’s perfectly fine, they still will have to out perform other players on the roster. While you want players to earn their spots, you also don’t want their development hindered by being buried on the 4th line or being scratched in favor of players who don’t have a future in the organization.

I do agree that young players must earn their keep and that it’s an important part of the locker room’s culture to not hand out spots but there definitely needs to be a balance between that and preventing players from getting an opportunity to earn their spot by placing unnecessary road blocks in front of them. Vesey is more of the same and probably not a part of the future plans so it doesn’t hurt to gauge interest in the player around the league and also gain 2.25m in cap space the team can repurpose to other players.

On June 20, 2016 the Buffalo Sabres traded a third round pick to the Nashville Predators for the rights to Jimmy Vesey. He didn't sign. Tim Murray looked like a fool. They hired Jason Botterill to replace him.

On December 1, 2016 Vesey played the Sabres for the first time since spurning them in free agency. The fans hate him. Boos every time he touched the puck. He said he "might have pissed some people off." You all think they are going to try and trade for him again? The player isn't good. 31 overall? Laughable. The Rangers would be lucky to get a 4th round pick for him.

He scored his career high in goals this past season. Seventeen. Big deal. One. Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Fifteen. Sixteen. Seventeen.

Alain Vigneault was named the 21st head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers on April 15. Kevin Hayes's rights were dealt to the Flyers on June 3. AV loves his favorites. Tanner Glass. Marc Staal. Kevin Hayes thrived under AV and turned into a linchpin of the team. Jimmy Vesey played under AV on the Rangers and grew up with Kevin Hayes.

One of the major reasons Vesey came to the Rangers was to play with his best friend Kevin. Winning comes secondary to him. He wants to play with friends. Is Gorton awake? He can give Chuck Fletcher a call. Jimmy Vesey to the Flyers. Michael Raffl and a 5th round pick to the Rangers. The Rangers buyout Raffl for a minimal cap hit.

I never get tired of these. Thank you.

I’m concerned with the acquisition cost, but frankly I’m more concerned on what the long term view of the player is. This is Trouba’s age 25 season which means a seven year contract would be finished at age 31. Karlsson is 29 which means his contract goes through his age 36 season. Karlsson is the better player and would be more expensive. He also has huge physical concerns. I’m also wondering who fits the current roster better. Taking all of that into consideration, I think Trouba is the better play.

This much we agree on (I think) The defense has to get better and they need to look outside of the organization to do that.

Fair enough on EK v Trouba, and without a doubt on the defense. You and I both know that the brass views themselves as having just 1 top 4 legitimate defenseman in the organization now. Fox can change that number to 2, but it's a skeptical reach for one of the bad contracts to be able to fill that void.

The question is: how quickly can a Miller step in, and can a Hajek surprise next season?

A Karlsson or a Trouba to augment what's coming will be the inflection point in the turn around, but what's coming is still a big question mark.

That IS going to be the going rate to get him. I don't know why people thought he would be cheap. A top pair 25 RD defenseman is going to fetch a kings ransom. Contract status or not.

I want no part of him. We have plenty of good young defenseman on the team or in the pipeline.

Trading for Trouba is a bad idea. Not only will the cost in assets be prohibitive RHD is the least of this teams needs.

And this is precisely why it is better to just go after Panarin now then look for the perfect fit in terms of position/young/ability a couple of years from now. You think the ask is going to be any less then? If we want to add a 1st pairing D when we're "ready to compete" in 2022 everyone is still going to freak out when the ask is a 1st, a quality roster player, a top prospect, +. Let's say McAvoy gets a 2 year bridge this year, the Bruins fall apart the next two years, and he's available in the offseason after 2021 as an RFA. What do you really think the cost will be? It'll be huge.

I'd much rather let our young dmen grow and see what we have than trade for Trouba. Hes a good player, but hes not going to single handedly fix our defense. I feel like he will be overpriced and become a problem more than a solution quite quickly.

If the Islanders want to get stupid and move Dobson, they're free to do so.

Devils don't have the chips. A few 2nd rounders and Pavel Zacha won't get it done.

I don't buy the Buch & Nils package for Trouba.

Those players do not fit the identity of the Jets. The Jets have a player profile they go buy, and I don't see Nils nor Buch fitting that at all for their current roster.

Buch doesn't fit their roster at all. They have four better wings already all of which will be locked in long term (assuming they sign Laine/Connor) so he would permanently be a 3rd line with PP2 guy. He'd be one of the best in the league at that but I can't imagine that's the role they are trying to fill. They need a 2nd line center.
