Package Vesey with what ever to get 31?

How far can 20 and 31 move us?

Looking at the LAK-ANA trade from 2008, I'd say it could move us up to 14 or 15

Trading Vesey and signing a lower-end free agent (I keep thinking of Vanek for some reason) on a short deal would be fine. Or trading Vesey and doing another deal to take assets alongside a bad contract like Callahan. But I think it would be a mistake to go into next season with fewer “generic NHL bodies” than we have now.

I’d take a bag of pucks for Jimmy Vesey. Lots of intriguing guys in the middle rounds lf this draft that i think can be at least as good as him

The biggest upside of trading Vesey is that he won't be in the top 6 anymore due to coaches loving the fact that "he tries"

I have been on Cap Friendly for days, and the more and more I fiddle, the more I realize adding Panarin will likely cause some headaches sooner than later. That, and all the Rangers "center" prospects, save for Brett Howden, have skillsets that can easily work on the wings. Assuming Kreider's contract situation goes reasonably well and the organization doesn't overpay too much, I honestly think they're much better off going after Duchene if they go big fish hunting in FA.

With Zibanejad and Duchene, the organization would have Kreider, Lias, Chytil, Kravtsov in the fold. Add Kakko (presumably) with the No. 2 overall pick and Buchnevich on a fair "bridge" style 3/4 RFA contract (likely $4-4.5 million) + one of Namestnikov/Vesey (I have a feeling at least one is moved), and that is plenty to work with. Duchene had 10 points in 10 playoff games with Columbus under Torts. I think before last season there were a lot of reasonable questions surrounding him, but he answered the call last season. I would much rather Duchene in that $9 million range than Panarin for $1-2 million higher.

The obvious issue is Zib/Duchene are definitely more 1B types, but together they would instantly become one of the best 1-2 C combinations in the East. Rangers would automatically lap several teams, and would just need some tweaks on D to get back to a playoff level. Up front forward wise they'd easily be talented enough.

I'm taking Panarin over Duchene every day of the week and twice on sunday

What are we adding to Vesey for the 31oa?

Who is asking? Are we asking or is Buffalo asking? Seems to me I read Buffalo was asking.

Vesey is a legit NHL forward whether people like it or not. IMO he's at least worth a 2nd. Guess what--Buffalo doesn't have a 2nd in this draft--the closest thing they have to that is the last pick in the 1st round. By the way the last pick in the first round isn't guaranteed to become a legit NHL player. So Buffalo wants our player--then they have to give up something for him. And to be honest I'm fine with taking Vesey all the way to the trade deadline and moving him then--I'm not just going to give him away and especially when another team has a real interest in him. If they're asking---they're interested.

I can't imagine Vesey is fetching a 1st round pick on his own under any circumstance. If Buffalo shopped #31 I have a feeling they'd do a lot better.

Probably something like a 3rd and a conditional pick if he scores 20G. Or perhaps a prospect the Sabres have soured on a little.

1) Why is getting rid of Shattenkirk predicated on Smith? It’s not but we probably will be able only to shed one
2) You believe that Vesey would do better playing 8 minutes a night than Smith on the 4th line? Yes
3) You still have nnot given a reason as to what the issue is with Smith being the 12th forward/7th defenseman role on a nightly basis. He isn’t good at hockey
