I'm on the Trouba and/or Panarin Bandwagon. We could use the money for that.
What does this have to do with surrendering Kreider for the 13th pick?
Also, the Rangers Organization has a lot of 4th line options for way less with more production, speed and skill.
So let's have some names. What player do you believe is a better fit on the 4th line, getting 4th line minutes?

just noting i'm one of the biggest trouba guys here...i've wanted him since his days at michigan and have been saying he'd be the perfect compliment to the RHD in our system all year...that said I have ZERO interest in paying the price it will take to get him in a trade. I'd be shocked if the price is not more than i'd be willing to pay. eventually we'll need to use our extra assets in trades but I don't think its time yet to make a major trade like that. i'm hoping he goes to arbitration and gets a 1 year deal so he can become a ufa next year.

My 4th as it stands now would be Vesey/Names/Fast with Boo as 13th. Or we try to get rid of Shatty now and keep Smith another year as 14th F / 8th D, not opposed to that but he doesn’t dress as it stands now imo.
1) Why is getting rid of Shattenkirk predicated on Smith?
2) You believe that Vesey would do better playing 8 minutes a night than Smith on the 4th line?
3) You still have nnot given a reason as to what the issue is with Smith being the 12th forward/7th defenseman role on a nightly basis.

Rangers are in dire need of 1RD more so than a Center. They have a few players who could pan out as a 2C. The RD is very ambiguous and not sure if I would ever consider DeAngelo or perhaps Fox a 1RD. A lot remains to be unseen with those folks including Lundkvist. Someone needs a shared responsibility with Skjei. He’s not and won’t ever be a guy to pick up his partners slack like McDonagh did. I just can’t imagine Skjei being the best defenseman we have on this team in a few years.

Would be more than happy to pursue Trouba as a UFA next summer.

I get that Trouba fits the ideal defensemen that this board has been clamoring for, for years. But let's take a step back and ask yourself this: Some of you, especially those in the don't sign any UFAs camp are against signing a an asset that only costs you cap space due to the rebuild.

Yet you are willing to trade assets that the Rangers will either build around, or are trying to accumulate and give a long term deal?

Trouba's a hell of a player, but he's not a tier 1 defenseman. But you mention Karlsson and the reactions are comparatively irrational.

IMHO, Trouba does not fit the team's timeline, cost structure, or will help this team in any playoff run in the next two years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Tyler Myers ends up in Dallas. Not sure about the Hanzal situation, but am expecting Nicushkin to get bought out. Hanzal might be LTIRed.

DAL has enough space to sign both Zucc and Myers and their RFAs.

I don’t consider Skjei to be anything special either so either a 1LD or 1RD at this point.

not sure I agree about the 2C...its still a big question if chytil is even a center and many feel he'll be a winger long term. and I think howden & andersson can be great 3C but not sure the offensive upside is there (hope i'm wrong there). so yes there are potential candidates but far from a sure thing that its not a need...

we like size on RD and not sure anyone is suited to be the matchup guy against the other teams top line...but there is a ton of talent and potential there. If I had to wager $$ i'd probably bet on one of Fox/Ada/Lundkvist become a top pair guy over betting that Chytil/Howden/Andersson will be a 70+ point center..although not sure I'd make that bet on either

There’s a ton of trade talk. Among the most aggressive teams: Buffalo, Calgary, Chicago, Minnesota, Nashville, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Vancouver, Vegas, Washington and Winnipeg. Depending on how the draft goes, we could see some frenetic attempts to move up and down.
The Sabres have talked to the Rangers about Jimmy Vesey.

Eichel's buddy Jimmy Vesey. Take him.

Winnipeg wants a ton for Trouba.

$6.5M-$7M for Kevin Hayes. I guess that's the asking price from the Hayes camp.

I agree, I still see a bailout acquisition, or a UFA being a middle six center that can also slot in on the 4th line. You have Strome, but you need another guy that can play that role.

Going with Chytil and a 28% faceoff rate isn't putting Fil in a position to succeed. He's going to be what? 20? The Rangers need to insulate him and Andersson.

I liked early season Howden, and post injury Howden, but those middle 50 something games.... he really struggled. The Brass did a poor job of force feeding him when he should have had some minor league time. I don't think it's damaging enough where it can't be fixed, but they need to coach both Howden and Andersson to embrace the two-way role. That means that they play with grinding wingers who can complement that game.

How does he not fit the Rangers timeline? This season he will be 25 years old. 25! What is your timeline?

No, he is not Doughty (although he just had a lousy season) or Hedman. He is a first pair right hand defenseman who can play with snarl, defend exceptionally well (he draws the tough matchups in Winnipeg) and can score. Players like Trouba are exceptionally rare.

I'm not interested in trading an unlimited amount of assets to get him but I am willing to make a fair trade. I am not interested in trading for him as a rental.

Winnipeg may find a team (Philadelphia) willing to overpay in assets and take their chances on an extension. That team should not be the Rangers.

What worries me about Trouba is that he has acted like an entitled little ***** and I would not be confident in him signing with the Rangers. He has forced his way off of 1 team already. Unless an extension is in place, I don't feel confident trading for him

Trouba is actually pretty quiet and unassuming. He's well liked on the team amongst both the vets and rookies. His agent is Kurt Overhart and that's been the root of the problem, imo. Regardless, he hasn't acted like a malcontent whatsoever.

He'd sign with the Isles, Rangers, Lightning or Avalanche in a New York minute, I believe. Not sure on other teams - might hold off another year.

I'm talking long term...I don't really care about next season other than how it helps the kids progress towards being the players that we hope. right now strome would be the guy, names has also played center but I could definitely see us being in the market for another veteran that can play center or wing to insulate the kids. but it has to be someone willing to sign for 1-2 years.

Vesey is a 26 year old 35-point player, will probably score more next season, is defensively responsible and hits.

Price should be a 2nd, or a 3rd and a prospect, or a 3rd and a 4th.
