What would it cost for Keller? I know Arizona can make some noise but I would overpay for him.

Also, Miller for Turcotte? Kings can draft Byfield and then have a D who is closer to the NHL.

Not advocating for a trade but the trade i would take would be for Larkin. Would Strome/ Deangelo plus Carolina's first get it done? Might have to add to it but Larkin on his deal would be perfect for the way we play.

I hope the front office stays patient and doesn't try to force open a window prematurely by overpaying for vets, the window still opens after Staal, Smith and Hank come off the books.
Give Laf and Kakko next year to bed in a little bit without the direct pressure of trying to win now.

Yes we need some two way forwards but now maybe with a little bit less pressure for offense guys like Chytil and Kravy can try to focus on developing that side of their game.

They won't hand out any gaudy, long term deals.

It would really behoove them to try and find quality vets who they can either sign for 1-2 years or trade for ones who have 2 or fewer seasons left on their deals (thats when we'll need the money.) You have Kakko, Laf, Fox, Shesty on their ELC's and Zibanejad and Panarin smack dab in the middle of their prime years. 5 of those 6 guys are going be more expensive pretty soon and the other one is already making 11+ a year.

Keller had a down year, I was wondering the same. Would fit nicely, not sure if something around buch+ ADA gets it done.

It might be uncomfortable to think about, but what is Ryan Strome lacking where he cannot be a top 6 center going forward? Scored on pace for 70 points this year. That smells like a top 2 line center to me. I know he was hot garbage before coming here but he’s obviously found his game in a big way.

I was just thinking of this yesterday but I feel the hometown boy, future captain aspect Larkin has going with the Wings may play a part. I'm not sure trading him would be a good look for their rebuild

They are a minimum 4 or 5 years from being anything, another 1st rounder in this draft would go a long way for them.

What time is the lottery today? Had some weird dream last night that the Rangers won it, but we all know stuff like that doesn't happen to this franchise, am I right?

Depending on the details, I would be cool with either
Laf+ for Barkov (assuming he verbally agrees to extend with us)
Laf for Byram+

My view is that we are already absolutely loaded at wing. Byram and Barkov are players at positions you need to get lucky as hell to find yourself with. We got lucky as hell by getting Lafreniere. Let's use that luck strategically.
You keep Lafrenier. He’s going to be our best forward.

I wonder how much it'll take to offer sheet Cirelli. Tampa has 5.3M in space next season and they have several RFAs to sign, including Cernak and Sergachev. I have a feeling Sergachev is going to get overpaid for what he is, so it should be easy to force Tampa's hand on it.

Right now they have 76.1M AAV tied up in 10F-3D-2G

There is zero reason to trade for Cirelli. He can be acquired by other means.

Also trading with Stevie Y has not exactly worked out great for us in the past lol
People want to avoid trading with TB today, but are willing to trade with Detroit ha. It wasn't the team that won those trades, SY is a fantastic negotiator from all accounts. He is the thing we should be avoiding in trades ha

I would think if someone offer sheets him than it just simply means that Killorn is absolutely gone, not maybe gone, absolutely. They won't lose Cirelli on an offer sheet.

Anyone else feel like Andersson might be a great center for Laf's first year on the third line?

Net front presence, great at cleaning up the garbage. Slow and not a puck carrier, but with two reasonable wingers that doesn't really matter.

He has a 16-team no-trade starting this offseason (down from full NTC), so we'll see.

They have a little flexibility to move Paquette/Goodrow/Coleman/McElhinney, but that won't be enough space for signing both Cirelli+Sergachev. You can force their hand.

Not sure I want to start that as a team who is suddenly going to have a lot of young stars to pay in a few years with a flat cap going forward for a little while. We have assets, and we are starting to approach that point in a rebuild where you move those to address the holes.

Something that has not been mentioned but is NOT a small detail is that Kakko and Lafreniere are both exempt from the expansion draft. Many other teams are going to be losing key players or need to make moves to protect key players but the Rangers have the ability to not need to protect either of these guys. That's a big deal.

As far as moves, I'm still thinking Buch is the guy to move IF they can re-sign Fast. To me, Fast @ ~$3m per season makes more sense based on what is in the pipeline on the wing, the contracts and Fast's ability to be that utility knife guy the team will need as these players develop. It's been bandied about a bit but something like Buch + Georgiev for Nurse would be ideal.

I'm laughing a bit at myself here but I find it ironic that with the draft lottery occurring last night, I find myself more thinking that it may make more sense to sign Strome to a 3 year deal (ends right when Lafreniere's ELC is up) as long as there is not any sort of NTC or NMC included. Have the assistant coaches work with Strome and Chytil regularly on defensive zone situations/video and develop those guys.

With the addition of Lafreniere, I am LESS inclined to buy anyone out at this point. I'd bite the bullet for next season as needed (hopefully with some help by Hank retiring and Smith being traded) but in no way would I want any further 'dead' cap space.

Not disagreeing entirely but Larkin is one of the few bright spots on their team

He'll also still be on the right side of 30 by the time they aim to compete

I don't think ownership and their fans would feel good about trading him

Image and attendance as well as PR still matters, even for rebuilding teams.

The only team that jettisoned everybody was the Sabres in pursuit of McDavid. Even Toronto kept Reilly, Bozak, Kadri, if even just for a few seasons. We've kept Kreider. Teams are wary of completely blowing it up. You still need good, experienced players

I don't think Detroit trades him
