I feel pretty good about:

Names/Zibanejad/Buchnevich
Chytil/Kakko/Kravstov
Vesey/Howden/Strome
Lemieux/Andersson/Fast

Beleskey
Lettieri
Nieves

Thats after trading Kreider and assuming we aren't getting an F back. Could still trade any of Names, Vesey and Fast. We won't be vying for a Cup, but that F squad will win some games. Panarin and/or Hayes wouldn't alter that trajectory much.

I’m not good with Kakko at center.

Spitballing here...could there be a deal with Arizona centered around Buchnevich and the 14OA? Arizona gets a young, cost-controlled top 6 forward. The Rangers get a shot to get the additional player they’re targeting in the draft, and deal from a position of strength.

Think Buchnevich has that much value on his own?

Disagree.

Getting Panarin and slotting him next to The KK boys with Chytil moving up and Names going to the 3rd line makes that forward group a whole hell of a lot better not to mention both PP units become more dangerous
How many more playoff rounds do you think it gets us?

Trick question. The answer is none. We won’t be making the playoffs either way.

I don’t know...maybe Pionk is added and the Rangers take back a contract. I think Kreider would be an obvious target for Arizona, but maybe Buchnevich is more appealing because he’ll be there longer.

We shouldn't be trading Buchnevich at this point in time unless it's for something that is hard to say no to.

14OA is not one of those things you trade Buch for.

Don't worry, its not like Buch would return the 14th pick on his own. I agree we def shouldn't trade him and we also shouldn't give him a long term contract yet. A lil bit more risky but a lot more safe at the same time if that makes sense.

Chytil actually has gotten a shot at it, and both Kakko and Kravstov have played center, so that would be a pretty bad bet on your part.

Chytil has spent more time on the wing as a Ranger, and Kakko and Kravtsov have yet to play a minute of hockey for the Rangers, so I’ll take my chances.

Signing Hayes for 2 years and overpaying let's say 7.5 mil per would make sense for both parties. Rangers fill the gap, and Hayes get to have 2 more seasons to showcase himself while getting top dollars.

Kakko played 4 games in Liiga at center out of necessity, not because he's good at it.
Kravtsov played center for the u20 national team for the same reason.
Chytil played wing for years leading up to the draft, and was moved to center for the u18 team.

None of these are natural centers or even players who prefer to play center. Use them where their skill and talents can be utilized the best instead of forcing everyone to play center

Chytil has the wheels to play center--he's awful on face-offs and he needs to work out some defensive issues. Quite often very young players have these kinds of problems. That's one reason why Howden is a bit of an outlier--he's not bad at draws and I think he has a bit more defensive awareness than Chytil--though Howden went through an extended bout of losing confidence last year in between getting injured. Andersson I'm not sure has the wheels to be a center--he needs to pick up his skating to be able to cover more territory. Not bad on face-offs but I'd rather have him on wing if his skating doesn't get better.

So throwing Kakko into the mix as a possible center wouldn't come without issues. It's likely he's going to have face-off problems and you're also kind of negating one of his major strengths--his work along the walls. I'd be much more inclined to keep him on the wing and keep plugging away with Chytil and Howden in the middle.

The Rangers haven't even had significant contract talks with Kreider. JD was hired on May 17. His press conference was on May 22. That was 2-3 weeks ago. Gorton still hasn't contacted Matt Keator to find out how much Keator wants for Kreider. Is anyone buying this story? Gorton doesn't know how much Kreider wants? Gorton knows the market for all of his players. He knows what the contract will be and how much trade value the player has. Maybe the Rangers have no intention to pay Kreider. Anders Lee is looking for 7-8 years at $7M. The Islanders have no issue with the money. They want a shorter term. Skinner got $9M per. Kreider is worth at least $7M with Skinner getting $9M.

The Rangers shouldn't buyout anyone. They signed Smith and Shattenkirk less than two years ago. Let those contracts be a lesson to the Rangers. Group III free agency stinks so they should think twice before getting involved again anytime some.

What Skinner got should not be brought up, that was Sabres insanity to overpay him, if any agent or player brings up insanity contracts in comparison then they should be traded ASAP.

These are teenagers who will be playing their first NHL games and people wanting to play them out of their natural positions and expecting good results--I don't know--it doesn't make sense to me.

Larry's Hayes obsession is extremely scary at this point. It's why you can't take his articles at full value now. He's not an objective party anymore, he's a guy with an agenda.

I put a lot of weight on @Edge saying that he expects Chytil to spend most of his time on the wing this year on the podcast. I don’t see center as Chytil’s long term position, especially if the Rangers draft high end centers this draft and next year’s draft.

These Gorton/JD articles have a pattern. Specifically with Brooks. They give their standard "everything is being explored" responses, but when they are given the floor they consistently say patience and stick to the plan.

The writers shoehorn the buyouts, UFA moves, huge trades. They ask if it's possible, of course they agree it's possible. Gorton doesn't paint himself into corners.

Look at the JD article last week. Quote after quote of JD liking what Gorton has done, stresses patience, telling us there is model to build a winner. Then Brooks says they'll be aggressive, accelerate the rebuild. Sticks that paragraph in the middle of a JD "trust the process" speech.

Gorton quotes are like chicken. They taste like whatever you want it to. Myself included, I want them to be patient and get more information about their young players. I can 100% be wrong but I choose to believe the recent pattern of activity instead of the predictions run through Brooks' filter, the guy that thought Hayes was staying.
