A lot of noise out there that the Kings are looking very closely at Askarov.

is he really considered that good?

kings have a ton of prospects and draft picks (3 nds, 2 3rds and 2 4ths this year, 2 in rounds 2/3/4 next year). I would think that they have the assets to trade up into the first round to take him with a 2nd 1st round pick without passing on a stud at #2

I actually agree they were good as a checking line in game 3, and while I'd attribute that more to the injection of Lemieux, I do think Howden played his best game in game 3.

However, I disagree with the overall sentiment from Larry that Howden was assertive and generated offense.

This I agree with. It's weird, there are games when Howden flashes some usefulness and going back to juniors he was a dominant 2-way force. I get the sense that his game is based on his physical attributes (length and strength in juniors) that just hasn't caught up yet in the NHL. It's why I think him playing the wing right now makes more sense but the problem is, the team lacks centers. He also should have been in the AHL last year

How mad would you be if we took Askarov with our 1st, 1st round pick?

How much would cost for us to move up from 10 to 2 if LA is ready to deal? Would that kid Askarov still be there at 10?

this to me might be the better question.

if that pick is on the table and you own a top 10 pick that can be used to take Askarov you absolutely have to find out if a deal is possible

If the RANGERS DO NOT GET #1 (Mercy Me) I expect them to draft Kaiden Guhle as their pick at around #10/11/12. Their later 1st round pick might be upgraded (using assets), if the right guy is available, to get a center...

Isn't there a huge gap in defensemen between Drysdale and Sanderson and then everyone else?

less consensus re Guhle, Schnieder, Barron, many others
most rankings have lots of D between 25-60.
an example, some folks very high on Mukhamadullin, also I saw him ranked ~100th

I will say that if the Kings do really like Steutzle to the point of taking him, I wonder if Gorton and Ottawa pull off a Lafreniere for Byfield and #5 (who may be a defenseman like Sanderson or Drysdale). They'd get their future top-2 C, a top-4 defenseman and still have another first rounder.

Interesting. Looks like a really lean kid...could see the appeal of wondering what his game looks like with 20-30 lbs of muscle on him.

I hate that we already suspect who we're gonna take. I strongly believe in taking the best player available and the notion that we already have in mind the guy we're going to take means that they'll take a guy they like over someone who may fall.

So like if Rossi or Perfetti are there, they'd still opt for Guhle? Yeah, I'm not down with that, but it does seem to be the Rangers M.O. Picking a player they fall in love with instead of a player that falls and who they don't expect to be there.
