All proposals that include a defenseman coming here that would need expansion draft protection means someone would be going out. You protect three. Right now that's Trouba (NTC), DeAngelo and Lindgren. Acquire someone like Brodin and that probably means DeAngelo is getting traded.

The reason Holden got a two year contract is so he can be exposed in the expansion draft next year. He wasn't as bad as some think and he can provide third pair minutes.

Yeah I mean if we have to "settle" for two 50pt RHD but add depth where it's needed, then it makes sense from a team building perspective. Unfortunately I can already see a lot of people convincing themselves that there's a perfect 1-for-1 scenario out there and anything else is a failure.

I'd love to move "right Tony" and get "left Tony" but I don't think that's in the cards.
And there's a *chance* we already may have a "left Tony" percolating in Jones...

Though where/how he's going to keep developing his game over the next 6-12 months, I have no idea...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Trading DeAngelo would be a horrible mistake and it would be a move that 20 years from now, everyone will be saying "wow what an awful trade".
The best scenario, and I know Rangers fans aren't patient, but the best scenario is to ride out this next year with what we have. Strome isn't worth a big contract.
It's the perfect year to give Chytil a chance at 2C. if he can't handle it, then you have cap space opening up in 2021 to make a move.
Ride with the kids, they'll be better next year.
Staal will be addition by subtraction. And even if they try Fox or Deangelo on the left side, there's no way they are worse than Staal at this point.
This is not the offseason to move any of the young guys. There is nobody better than DeAngelo that we can conceivably acquire for him in a trade.
Let Fast walk, give Strome a 1 year offer or let him walk, give Lemmy a bridge deal, sign DeAngelo to the Skjei contract, and go from there.

I wouldn't do DeAngelo for Ehlers straight up, let alone add Chytil on top of that. DeAngelo and Chytil get you like more than halfway to Eichel lol.
Yeah. I want to hold on to our guys and see what happens. If DeAngelo needs to be moved, it has to be a fair deal and i'm not moving Chytil.
Just don't know why people are so quick to trade a bunch of assets for a quick fix. That's the reason why we are in this position, because we traded evey pick and prospect we had. I'd like to continue building this core and when the time is right, we will have a bunch of assets to trade for players we need, now isn't the time unless it's a deal we can't turn down.

I never actually thought about it until someone said it in the DeAngelo thread on the main boards but Ghostibhere and DeAngelo, not too dissimilar.

I haven’t looked at Ghost’s ES point totals though so I could be wrong
Hayes looks pretty good right now, but don’t be surprised if the middle and later parts of their respective deals looks better for Kreider.
Would take that bet

The moment Kreider starts to lose his speed it’s gonna be a bad time. Hayes’ game doesn’t rely on physical tools nearly as much as Kreider’s

Ehlers isn't a quick fix he's a great player with a great contract.

Yeah, I don't think he'd get PP1 minutes and there was rumors he didn't make a great impression with the players when he attended camp there. A lot of the same core is there.

He went in throwing bows. Almost took Boyle's head off during camp.

We should really be targeting trades with teams (not specific to DeAngelo) that are either desperate (Buffalo, Minnesota, Toronto, Montreal?), may end up stripping away pieces after coming up short at the end of a run as a contender (Nashville) or who ever hires Chia (Arizona?)

Yeah but he's lead footed and losing half a step for Hayes would have a MUCH bigger impact on him than it would for Kreider.

Kreider will continue to be a menace in front of the net for as long as he decides he wants to go there. We've seen what losing a gear can do for guys who weren't great skaters to begin with (Richards.)

Didn't really mean him but in general. Why would we trade Chytil and DeAngelo for a winger? Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Buch in our top 6. Who is centering these guys? Strome? If DeAngelo is moved, it needs to be for a LD or C, Chytil i'm not even trading. Too young and he has potential

I think Kreider's bread and butter is his net front presence. His speed is a nice plus and definitely creates a lot of opportunity, but due to his strength in front, I think he will age alright.
Kreider isn't a softie either, so I think later in his career he can adjust to being a Thomas Holmstrom.

I think Larry is partially right, though I think his wording and logic is flawed.

The Rangers are probably looking for balance --- which includes adding some north-south type players, balancing out the lines a bit, and continuing to add to the mix.

Byfield is not a kid who is going to up the Rangers grit factor. His size is a weapon because when paired with his skating, hands, vision, etc., it makes him very difficult to contain. He does also tend to play more of a straight-ahead style, and happens to play a position the Rangers could really shore up. So in that sense, he checks a lot of boxes and is probably a more natural "fit" for the roster as its shaping up.

Having said, this isn't a top pick debate scenario like other drafts, there's a clear consensus on the top pick and you really don't pass on that guy, even for any of the reasons I stated above, without some kind of bigger strategic plan.

Now, that plan could be having someone like Ottawa make a bold offer. I suspect they will approach whoever lands the top pick and make an offer, unless the top pick goes to one of either Toronto or Montreal.

So Larry has some of the pieces, but he doesn't really have them in the right order.

If Rangers get 1st OA, and Ottawa comes knocking, I want 3OA and Brady Tkachuk
