I agree, that's why I said Vegas wouldn't do it. When it comes to Holden, he would be our best LHD and he's actually good. He was unfairly criticized when he was here.

Holden is a mess. The only one of our LD I would play him over would be Staal & it's probably a wash. All the criticism he received while on the Rangers was justified...he's been every bit of a liability for Vegas.

I don't know why everyone keeps categorizing ADA as a PP guy. He was 4th in the league in 5v5 points as well. He had 30 vs Fox's 22 and Trouba's 16.
I'm not arguing your point, but I think the question (once the hyperbole of others is removed) is how much do his occasional defense struggles mitigate that 5v5 scoring since you would tend to keep him away from the top lines of other teams. People exaggerate his d struggles so much and try to pin him as a 7th d PP specialist that shouldn't play 5v5. Sure he will struggle at times but his ability to transition is just tremendous, and yes been doing this primarily paired w staal. You can see other teams on their forechecks cheat off of staal to ada bc they know that's his main outlet. Staal put him in rough spots all year forcing the puck to him bc he knew ada was the more effective player at moving the puck. So if people a (fans of other teams) are going to keep crushing staal as a anchor and negative value on the ice than doesn't ada deserve 5v5 credit for making that pairing able to contribute at 5v5 and not be married to the d zone?

Am I the only the only one to think they should have kept Hayes instead of Kreider?? Center position is more of importance.

If the choice is between paying DeAngelo a lot of money or waiting a year for Lundkvist--I'd wait the year for Lundkvist.

Speaking of the other Lundqvist--Brooks article about buying him out if he doesn't retire I concur with. He's old and declining. He makes too much money for a backup and his mentality isn't right for that job. He's not a No. 1 quality NHL goalie anymore. Whether he speaks out on it or not--he's going to burn all year long......and the Rangers we just saw get waxed by Carolina are an extremely long shot to win a Cup for him next year. There is no point in keeping him. If we're serious about getting back to the playoffs next year he has to go.

Playing mostly kids and AHL'ers in the bottom 6 didn't work very well. That lack of depth throughout the lineup killed us. It extends to our defense which has a size issue and another declining player issue and Brendan Smith who isn't that good either. I don't think everything is going to get fixed in one year but we need to work on all these areas. Some of this can be fixed with the prospects we have but we need to add a couple of real deal bottom 6 players and at least another experienced d-man. Moving on from Lundqvist will help make that possible.

On moving DeAngelo. The guy grew on me in the last two years but the Rangers have Fox and Lundkvist (another undersized d-man) who when he finally comes over will be a controlled contract for at least 4 or 5 years. DeAngelo is moving away from control. If we can get a good return for him I would seriously consider it. I'd have to think that a number of teams would be interested.

It was never Hayes vs Kreider, really

It was long-term one of Hayes/Skjei and bridge the other.

The Rangers, even without hindsight, made the wrong decision.

Yeah, this is the same as the "Boyle vs Strålman" talks in 2014. It was never Boyle or Strålman. It was Girardi or Strålman. Dan Boyle was going to be there to replace Richards as our PP QB.

Only issue is the extension he is due for, along with Zibanejad's deal.

That's going to take a haul

Ok, so Barkov is an issue because an extension in 2022, but Eichel who is signed for 10m a year until 2026, when he needs an extension, isn't? Would Barkov get that much more than 10m in 2022 with the flat cap?

Ironically a decent spot for Tony, the prodigal son returns home, would be Tampa

Except for the minor cevat of them being screwed cap wise

Id argue that Eichel at 23 is more valuable than Barkov at 25, considering Eichel is signed for 6 more years and Barkov only 1.

Im less enthusiastic about any player with only a single year left, whether that’s Barkov or Lindholm or other.

I recall Holden being fine when he was played on a lower pair. It's when he was playing higher minutes on a higher pair is where the trouble came into play.
