People love to knock what Strome did before he got here. But those numbers and production that some are all too happy to malign are still better than anything Chytil has done. And Chytil could replicate Strome's numbers playing with Panarin, but we don't know for sure. We have an idea with Strome.
That is one of my points. To enter a season where you are going to be looking to compete by hoping that Chytil could replicate's Strome's success just does not sound like a winning strategy. One could certainly hope that eventually Chytil gets there but as of now, he has not shown that he can be that player. And if that does not work out, then what? Being forced to play ZBad with Panarin? That will hurt lineup depth.

saying its better then anything chytil has done is a little ridiculous though....hes 20, strome is 27...
OK, better than anything that Chytil will do for a while. Does that make it better? For a bit of perspective on how long players can take to develop, see Zibanejad, Mika.

I you prefer an apples to apples look at what Strome did as a 20 year old and what Chytil has done.

2019-20 Chytil: 14+9= 23 in 60 games played
2013-14 Strome: 7+11 = 18 in 37 games played

Great.

Now show me how much time each guy got per game (both at ES and on the PP) and who their most common line mates were.

Anyone who watched the team this year will tell you that Chytil played better than his production suggests.

I don't know who Strome played with on the 2013-2014 Islanders who had 79 points and 34 wins. The leading scorer was Kyle Okposo who had 69 points. John Tavares has 66 points in 66 games. Then you have the likes of Nielsen, Vanek, Bailey, Nelson and Grabner (points ranging from 58-26). So if you want to suggest, that Strome was a product of great linemates...well...ok.

Again, I'm not looking tp kill Chytil.. I'm just ready to minimize Strome.

2013-2014 Strome - 12:54 ES TOI/G, 2:15 PP TOI/G
2019-2020 Chytil - 14:50 ES TOI/G, 1:17 PP TOI/G

Amazing that he got 2:15 per game on the PP and those were his powerplay linemates. Were the Islanders just constantly on the powerplay in 13-14?

He wasn't, at least at even strength. At ES his most common linemates were Matt Martin and Colin Mac Donald.

8 of his 18 points came on the PP though where he played with their heavier hitters. He also averaged 20 seconds more per a game than Chytil did which on the surface doesn't mean much but over time, it adds up.

Chytil had 20 points at ES this season. He was on and off PP2 which wasn't very good all together and got little ice time as the year went on because PP1 was so good. Had he gotten a larger dose of PP1 time, he would have picked up a few points extra points by accident. I don't want to crap all over Strome here because he made more than a few plays during the PP which resulted in goals, but he was clearly the 5th most important player out of that 5 player grouping (and really, his spot should be be occupied by a lefty.)

As it is with everything, context matters.

I really think there is a happy medium to running Strome out of town and offering him the moon to stay.

The cap will be flat moving forward. Strome knows what it feels like to be in a situation that doesn't fit him. He was on his way to a not-so-stellar career during his time in Edmonton. Quinn and the Rangers believed in him and gave him the opportunity to succeed playing with one of the best players on the planet.

Offer him a 3-4 year deal @ $4.5-5m per season.

He's versatile in his ability to play center or wing. He has KNOWN chemistry with the teams best player. He's a RH center which is invaluable and he's 27 years old.

I hate to disappoint everyone but Strome will get a one year contract at somewhere between $4.5-5MM. The only exception would be if he accepted a two year contract at the same money. I can’t see him doing that because of the opportunities that expansion may offer.

I expect the Rangers will tell DeAngelo take a one year contract at a similar dollar amount and they will imply that we’ll make it up to you next year.

That may leave room for Fast at $2.5MM.

Hard for us to lose with a one-year deal at 5 million or under. Especially if he stays on a line with Panarin. Does it cost us someone else? Maybe, but we should still have an opportunity or two to adjust elsewhere and hopefully not lose ADA or Buch.
