when has a goalie ever been traded for an elite prospect in any fashion

I know you said packaged but AG is not moving the needle on returns in any scenario imo.

Raanta and Stepan for 7 and DeAngelo?

Maybe a package of Georgiev and 15 can get you like, 7, I dunno.

I think if there's a trade-up scenario available involving Georgiev, it'll involve the pick(s) they get for him and whatever pick they're moving up from.

Barring any major shake up with the mystery #1 overall, the only team within trade-up range who really has a striking need for a goalie is Chicago. There was that weird situation with Sorokin back in February and as far as I know they don't have a legitimate goalie prospect in the system.

Then the question becomes: Who is worthy of trading up to get that Chicago would pass on at 9 or 10? Lundell? Sanderson? They're not moving off that pick if a guy like Rossi or Holtz is still sitting there.

Fast scored some pretty goals, if he has good playoffs I think we should re-sign him.

Strome had 18 goals 4 of which were empty netters...

Yea, Strome also had 41 assists in 70 games which is impressive. It’s not just about goals. Those empty netters also secured us 8 points.

We all like Fast but we likely won’t be able to afford him.

Fast is an important player. One of the guys who is really valuable to any team during playoffs.

So was Hagelin, so was Boyle, so was Prust, they all needed to secure their future with a payday and they left, I'm doubtful Fast ends any different, hopefully it doesnt set us back any.

I think we have enough in our system to justify moving Georgiev, I'd prefer it was Hank that left but I dont see that as a possibility.
I get not wanting to go gaga over Hank but likewise I don’t get the desire to give him the bum’s rush. I know his contract is rough but it’s just one more year. It’s not a huge factor. (Or, at least, it’s priced-in).

Agreed ... perfect works they can move the Smith contract and sign Fast for 3xunder 3

Smith w Georgiev to Ottawa for a 2nd and the Gaborik contract

If we are basically swapping bad contracts, I want two 2nd rounders in that trade. Gaborik makes 725k after Smith's SB is paid. Melnyk is already counting his pennies

Looking at the Sens they do have Nilsson signed and may want to look at Broberg and Gustafson next year

Not sure if the Wings are in on Georgiev or will they just keep their picks and sign a Howard replacement to go w Bernier..... they are gonna stink regardless

San Jose makes sense for Georgiev. Calgary could be an option, replacing Talbot.

Stome has bad contract written all over him IMO. Can see many of the kids getting stronger, better and more productive while Strome is less productive and ties up precious dollars with a flat cap.

Agreed which is why id use the cap As needed excuse for 2 yrs only w no trade protection meaning he’s exposed in expansion

I think the flat cap greatly increases the chances of Fast staying for another few years...he was going to get too much for us to keep him but the flat cap is going to squeeze him. he isn't going to get the big 4 year offers from other teams due to it and I think for basically the same terms he will stay here.

Strome isn't going anywhere, Panarin likes playing with him, the organization likes him, the players like him, he helped us create a second scoring line and he fits our age group. The hate is mind numbing.
