Great attitude. Always heard Rangers was a classy organisation. Maybe that is changing with Gorton?
Trading a player away has absolutely nothing to do with "class", that is a low level common denominator way of thinking about things. This is a business. If this team isn't going to alter it's rebuild plans to make Lundqvist happy it sure as shit ain't doing that for Mika.

I don't think Hank goes anywhere until Georgie can show his strong finish is somewhat sustainable. They can't have a rookie who is struggling with no veteran to step in and insulate him.

I just think that the number of teams with genuine interest would be low and will dwindle if Hank is looking for a comparable lifestyle to what he has now. He won't return a lot of value. Cap dump and maybe a B-prospect. Maybe that changes if a contender is struggling to get reliable goal tending mid-season.

Anybody else think that with the whole Kakko/Hughes situation that Kravtsov is being overlooked?

Might be the perfect situation for him. He will likely be flying under the radar with most of the focus on our newest shiniest toy.

I actually like the position it puts him in, because I think the possible hope/pressure of him having to be "the guy" is eased a bit. Same with Chytil to a lesser extent.

Elliotte Friedman was on the NHL Network yesterday. Taylor Hall wants to play on a winning team. He has been in the NHL since 2010-11 and he has played in the NHL playoffs once in 2017-18. Hall won the Hart Trophy that season. He likes New Jersey and everything but he is sick of missing the playoffs. It's up to Shero to show him the team is committed to winning and put a winning product on the ice. What does Shero do? Keep Hall and make moves to improve the team. What happens if those moves don't work and Hall doesn't want to sign? Trade him in February as a rental? Trade Hall this summer? How much are they going to get for one year of Hall?

Columbus was in the same situation with Panarin. Aaron Portzline was throwing out these crazy trade ideas for Panarin. Teams trading away top players for one year guaranteed of Panarin. Columbus couldn't replace him in their lineup with any player acquired in a trade. The Devils aren't as good as Columbus but it will be interesting to see what the Devils do with Hall. The Devils will get a late 1st round pick and a few other assets for one year of Hall. I read these crazy proposals on the main board for one year of Hall. Colorado is trading the 4th pick overall for one year of Hall. OK.

Shero is entering his 5th season as Devils GM. They are one of the middling teams. They want to be competitive and make the playoffs while at the same time add young players to the organization. It's hard to both things. The Devils find themselves in a situation where their best player can walk out the door for nothing. The Hall situation is similar to Tavares but Tavares had deeper roots to the Islanders. He got sick and tired of missing the playoffs on the Islanders and left. The guy gave 9 years of his life to the Islanders and decided to leave. Shero needs a find a better goaltender. Schneider wasn't that great to begin with and he isn't that good right now.

Elliotte talked about Karlsson. He discussed/wrote about Karlsson and TB. Karlsson would like to team up with Hedman in TB. He said someone called him after reading/hearing the Karlsson item and told him to not rule out San Jose. It seems the Sharks have a very good offer on the table. Elliotte said Karlsson wants to win.

What if Hall to Colorado comes with an extension? Pick 4+ for Hall is a winner for both teams.

I know people don't like using the Leafs as the template, but the parallels are there.
In terms of expectations and pressure:

Matthews=Kakko
Marner=Kravtsov
Nylander=Chytil

Kravtsov and Chytil have a tremendous opportunity to fly under the radar. It gets even better for all three players if Panarin is signed.

You go to a show to see Marner, Matthews, and Kapanen on Tuesday afternoon. You might get our three as stand-ins but you'll be real disappointed

Hainsey = Staal
Zaitsev = Smith
Rielly = Skjei

I don't think Henrik gets traded anywhere without 50% retention anyway.

No--I don't either. IMO if we had played Georgiev more we would have had a better record. I think Quinn kind of figured that out in the second half of the season. I don't intend to shit all over Henrik--he's had a HOF career for us. Arguably the best goalie in the league for much of that career. He's not anymore--at least not on the ice--he's a tremendous example to follow off the ice though. A complete professional--he's just finally hit the wall and IMO he lost us games we could have won meanwhile Georgiev won us games we should have lost. If San Jose or another team wanted to trade for him though and he wanted to go then by all means--there you go. But I would think it was dumb as hell on their part.

Yes been thinking about that for awhile. I think the best approach for a rebuilding team is to build a particular strength ,whether its offense or defense or goaltending and then when you have a surplus of assets in that position you trade some of them to strengthen your weaknesses. This is the leafs model which had worked imo. The leafs can trade a nylander or a Kapanen for a top 4 d. That is why we should sign Panarin.

The Rangers getting #2 was the best thing to ever happen to Kravtsov, Chytil, Andersson, and Buchnevich.

It's not all that different than building a pitching rotation. If you can find/get that guy at the top, everything else more easily comes into focus around him.
