Kakko or Hughes will get 9 to 10 million/year on their second contract if they perform to expectations. The thing with a large contract to Panarin or Karlsson is that it will prevent the Rangers from acquiring someone else down the line that may be better (and younger) than either of those players at that time. It's hard to predict who will be available two or three years from now. Gorton seems like the kind of GM to keep his options open and add when the time is right.
But you are talking about something that may or may not happen down the line. We have no way of knowing who will be available in the next 3 years. And thats IF someone of their caliber will even be available, let alone being better and younger*. Panarin may be the best option right now and moving forward. Maybe not for next year but the following season.

If you're talking about UFA's, sure.

I was alluding towards trading for someone using the superfluous assets that we have.

I can promise you that this will happen between now and 2022.

Panarin may be the best choice in the short term, but long term he probably isn't. There are teams in cap trouble right now who are ripe to be had via trade, we should be looking at that instead of committing a ton of money+NMC to a free agent.

Yeah. We are so close to having an amazing foundation for future success. Just keep doing what they've been doing and we'll be a legit contender in a few years. Stay the course.

Yeah definitely, I don’t think Gorts will consider Panarin.

So many teams are up against the cap or suck and still has little room. In total teams are desperate to move a good 50-60 players — at least — this off season. Last summer all GMs managed to agree on trades meaning that 15 guys were traded, ie a fourth of what would be preferred.

When you can’t dump the players you want to trade, you will have to turn to something else. It’s of course far from a lock that someone that makes sense for us is moved, or if a guy like that — say a Nylander/Marner/Ehlers type — is moved, that we could get him. But if not teams will still have to pay a lot just to get rid of a contract and we can be in on that.

Could we do both? Sign Panarin and take advantage of a team that needs to re-sign one of their own.

Would be really, really hard to do with out shuffling the deck big time.

And then there is the whole defense thing.
I mean if they were considering signing both EK and Panarin then i think they can make Panarin and a cap dumb work.

I would be interested in Callahan, Cernak, and 1st round pick in 2020 as part of the deal.

I don't think Panarin and EK was ever a realistic possibility.

And I'm not really talking cap dump. I'd love to poach one of Nylander or Ehlers this summer, preferably the former.

I don't think Cernak would be cheap. He's a RHD on an ELC. They'll need to replace Stralman and Girardi on the right side. Cernak and Foote are in good position to take on large roles on Tampa. Then there's the whole Erik Karlsson saga (I think he ends up in Tampa).

We could take on Callahan in exchange for their 2nd round pick back if they include a good young forward like Joseph or Raddysh if their 1st isn't attainable.

I am only making these moves if it involves robbing these teams. I have no interest in taking on a contract without the appropriate payment to do so.

I'd love to have Joseph.

Fast, like Kreider, seems to me to be the kind of a player that contending teams are always really wanting to get.

So again, if his contract demands are reasonable, I'd prefer to keep he and Kreider.

I think 5X6.5 for Kreider and 4X 2.5 for Fast are fair offers.

Agree. I think he'd fit in very well with what the Rangers are trying to do.

Understood. Though I think Tampa's 2nd for Callahan and their 1st sounds like it would work, I'm not sure its exactly fair value.

Cernak isn't going anywhere, he was excellent. Lightning fans on their board are talking about moving Sergachev because of his next contract, the expansion draft and trying to chase EK.

Trading Sergachev (not like all TBL fans want to do it, or their cap crunch isn't unique) sounds extreme, but I almost feel like we see the pendulum swing against skilled defensemen with the Rangers too, kind of a supply and demand thing. There are so many of them coming through, and if they aren't past a certain level or if they just don't click with your other big PP players, they don't give you that much.

What do you think about Oliwer Kaski:
Oliwer Kaski
Big RD, almost 24 years old. He has become a world champion yesterday. Unfortunately according to dobberprospects.com he is, despite his size, offensive Dman and he needs to work on his defensive game. I hope they are wrong ;)

Kaski is signing with DET

Send out Vesey, Nams, Fast.

Re-sign Kreider
Sign Panarin
Sign Hagelin
Take back Callahan in a trade

Thats 8 million out.

Cap space becomes around 27 mill.

Kreider- 7 Mill (wouldn't kick in until 2020-21)
Panarin - 11 mill
Hagelin - 3 mill
Cally- 5.8

19.8 in for 2019-20 (lets call it 20.)

7 mill to resign your RFA's. Buchnevich probably eats half of that.

Good luck.

Does this take into account the cap increase? Nope. Assume 3.5 for Buch, 2.5 for ADA, 1M for Lemieux that's 7M. Cap increase should cover Pionk, but he shouldn't be here anyway.

Edit: Nevermind, forgot CF changed the default cap hit to 83M, so it does. In any case, it could work but that means Pionk has to go for sure, and Lemieux has to take the QO.

The fastest and most effective way to make the NYR the TOR Leafs is to sign Panarin to 11/7 when we know we won't be good for another year or so AT BEST.

Crap defense... no money to resign our (hopefully) homegrown studs.

People here wanna poach Nylander because they threw a sack of money at Tavares. That's what other teams are going to be talking about with us in the coming years.
